MTG Salvation

Upon the cessation of the speech, Cerwen's heart raced from her hiding spot. She chose a large pillar behind the stage even though knew she didn't have to hide to hear the speech... but she wanted to. Stealth calmed her nerves and allowed clarity of thought and the shadows were the best place to be free of distractions. For Cerwen, it was a familiar setting for unfamiliar circumstances.

Soon enough Cerwen's chest stops pounding and she begins to think. Reaching back to her sides, where her swords are, helps her calm. Now... What can she do to help. She looks around for an elder. Best to ask.

There were none in sight as they had all retired to the church's inner chambers to discuss things with the Immortalis. On this night, there was a great deal of thinking to be done and she understood that it was very unlikely that any truly helpful people would be available.

Fine, she can handle that. Everyone knows nothing's gonna be kept a secret from her for long. She looks around, then slowly starts making her way to the church.

People were filing into it and out of it at a rate very uncommon for this time of night. Then again, this was a a day where the uncommon was common. She noticed the red and white robes of an elder priest trying to dodge the waves of people in order to walk down a corridor inconspicuously.

Inconspicuous? Why robes down corridors? She looks around for a moment before slowly moving through the waves. Not dodging anyone. Looking for the gaps between people and slipping in there before moving on.

She arrived at a bottleneck. The priest moved past 2 guards who were watching the corridor. There was no visible hiding spots and the guards seemed even more alert than they did on a usual day. Spying on people this important on matters this significant would not be easy.

The girl pouts for a minute. Well, killing them is out of the question. Hrm... She looks around for a moment. Trying to see if there's anything helpful for her here.

The crowds of people made it hard to focus on looking for anything but she did notice a fountain a few yards away, a small bell and a several torches lining the walls. There was also a man carrying a bag of chalk, used to powder one's hands before combat.

An idea starts in Cerwen's head. She glances back at the guards to see exactly how well they're paying attention.

The guards were paying close attention and were incredibly alert but the sheer amount of people made their focus waver every once and a while. They tried their best to be wary of all movement, but the vast crowd was impossible to supervise completely.

She goes back into the crowd to the fountain and cups some in her hand, then tries to put a torch out with it without being seen.

The flame of the torch fizzles. A couple of passersby notice her but she waves politely and they continued walking. The guards seemed to have other things on their minds.

Nodding to herself, she looks around before attempting the same thing on another torch.

Her second attempt was more dangerous as there was a small congregation of older clergy just feet away from it. Luckily they were caught up in some seriously intense discussion and didn't notice when she accidentally kicked a loose stone into a metal pot. Cerwen snuffed the second torch, acknowledging that there were 3 more, all harder to get to than the last.

The girl looks at the older clergy, ears perked to see if they have anything to say. She also looks down at the pot and considers it for size.

They were talking in hushed voices but she caught fragments of the conversation. At first they discussed pure theology but moved onto more interesting matters... something about a new kind of defence and an old friend playing an important role in the upcoming days.
The pot was rather ordinary looking and was filled with a small orange plant with spikes on it. It wasn't more than a couple of feet tall but was nearly 4 feet wide.

The girl considers. How to do this... Then she grins. Of course! She continues to listen to that discussion, both parts of it of interest to her. She slowly removes her boots and sets them to the side, then pulls off her socks as well. The socks she dips into the fountain, getting them nice and wet. Then slowly sneaking on bare feet towards the next torch.

The third torch was a fair distance away and she passed out of earshot of the conversation. She decided that the information they held couldn't possibly be more than than that of the inner chambers and she made it to the third torch, totally unseen and unheard. A door was next to it but it appeared as though nobody was moving in or out of it.

She quickly wrapped her dripping sock around the torch to put it out, glancing over at the door next to it. Hrm... What was in that door again...

Yet again, the torch was snuffed but the steam scalded Cerwen. She bit her lip as she hid her pain. The room grew a little bit dimmer and the guards started to take notice. One of them nodded to the other and went to re-light the first torch she had extinguished.
The door began to crack open and a stunning young woman walked out wearing a flowing white gown. Every male in the room (a rather large amount) took notice of her, with the exception of the guard who was lighting the torch.

Cerwen quickly moved to the fourth torch and slid her sock across it, only holding the end that wasn't going to get touched by the heat. Then trying to slip into the room past the guard by the door, since he should be watching that woman. Hopefully.

When the fourth torch went out, people started to take notice. By sheer serendipity, the beautiful woman lost some orientation in the dim light and crashed into the the man holding the sack with the chalk in it, sending powder flying everywhere. The guard at the door thought that it was his moment to make an impression and he ran to her to pick her up and try to sneak in an 'accidental' brush of her more intimate areas as he dusted her off. Cerwen slipped by unnoticed and into the corridor.

Thanking her lucky stars, or something similar, Cerwen panted behind the door and then looked down the corridor. Hoping there'd be nothing to deal with at this point.

The security was absent, figuring that nobody would have been able to pass through the well guarded entrance to the corridor. There were several doors, all of them large and menacing; any one of them could be he chamber where the Immortalis and elders were speaking.
