They reached the edge of a ridge and could see the smoke rising as people planted makeshift explosives into the ground at the base of the valley. It was a smaller operation but one that looked vulnerable to attack. Bantia jumped as another explosion went off, "mister Kaz, I'll be safe down there, right?"
The mine had a high fence surrounding it with a tower on each corner. A sniper was stationed at each of them, some with crossbows and other with longbows. At the main gate, the foreman was arguing with another guard who was supposed to be watching the gate but had nodded off. "What the hell do I pay you for, anyways?!" the foreman screamed. He was a short man, but his bright red hair and fiery temper made up for his lack of physical size.
I be Kaz. And if yous not careful little man yous learn w'ere I's gets me aut'ority. Kaz rather menacingly dismounts from the horse leaving Bantia mounted.

The foreman huffed, "well I'm glad you're here so that I can fire this dozing imbecile!" The short man grabbed the original guard by the collar and threw him to the ground, "get out of my sight and never work security again!"
Leading the horse into the camp he looks at the foreman. I's be needin a place for 'er to rest and some food an water for me 'orse. Some food and water for 'er and mes be good too.

With quite a stearn look Kaz informs the foreman. As if to emphasize the point, he lets his hammer strike the ground a mere inch from the foreman's foot.

Bantia was too busy playing with the horse, gleefully petting its nose, to notice the large man smiling at her.
Kaz perused the grounds, noting that the four guards were standing attentively. If he was going to be working with them, he figured he should probably get to know them.
The post-guards were on 4 sides of the campus, so he would have to talk to them individually. He moved to the closest one and saw the ladder leading up to watching area. At almost 7 feet tall and with more weight than 2 men combined, he hoped the ladder would hold.
It was a pretty solid workout lugging his lumbering frame up the tower. A young man stood, scanning his surroundings with a loaded crossbow in his hands and a quiver of bolts propped against the wall beside him. He had short silver hair and was wearing a thick jacket for protection from the breezes at his height.
Oy got some water? I's be Kaz by da way, I's supposed to help wit' protection and junk. The big man managed to get out between gasps for air. Working without adrenaline was tough. He might have to get angry just to make it up the other three towers.

The man turned around, and tossed him a canteen, "hello, Kaz. I'm Rumbio and I just got here a couple of days ago. I hope you enjoy your stay here... us guards are a load of fun."
Swallowing a Kaz size mouthful, he replied As long as yous do yous job, 'ave fun wid it. Tossing the canteen back, Kaz started his descent. On his way down he could he the clang of the empty canteen hit the floor.

The descent was much easier than the climbing and he was on the ground in half the time it took him to get up to the platform. He was already dreading having to do this 3 more times, but it would be good training to get in shape should any real conflicts happen over then next few weeks.
