To Rainos' chagrin, the sky outside was clear and it was relatively warm. He could see people walking outside, enjoying the weather and most certainly not praying for a storm like he was. Disegreth was notorious for having unpredictable weather patterns yet there had been only drizzles of rain over the past 3 days.
A grumbling stomach interrupted his quiet thought, reminding him that he hadn't had a bite to eat all day. He silently cursed, knowing that he had eaten the majority of the food in the house and would be forced to go outside on this mild and completely unintersting day.
Before Rainos embarked on the day's journey, he conjured up a small bolt in one hand, and felt a soft breeze from from the other. Sighing, he decided no to waste the last drop of his energy when the sky wouldn't even respond to his calling.
Gathering up his things, he walked outside, and nearly gagged when the sun's rays his his eyes. "Disgusting," he muttered under his breath. Still, it was stomach over storms right now, and he needed to find some food. Quickly, he headed down from his hill-top house and toward the town.
The walk to the town was warm and dry, the opposite of what he would have desired. The moderate weather meant that many were out and about on this day, procuring things for their families. People passed each other, avoiding eye contact in typical Nomeni fashion; nobody liked to interfere with one another.
Rainos made no more effort than any other to make social interactions. He quickly headed for the local food market to get some quick meals and get out of the godawful weather as soon as possible.
The market's selection had been picked over; a telltale sign of the pleasant weather and increased flow of customers. In times of uncertain security, wartime became commerce time. The flow of money slowed almost everywhere except for at the market and people were all stocking up as though the last can of potatoes would save them if all hell broke loose.
He was walking out of the market, grumbling away and looking at the ground when collided with someone. His groceries tumbled to the ground, as did the woman, adding to the already miserable day. She looked older than him by a few years, maybe in her late thirties. She stood up slowly, her curly black hair bouncing as she snarled, "watch where you're going!"
Rainos didn't want to deal with this. He'd had enough already. "It goes both ways," he spat, "You obviously weren't watching where you were going either."
The black haired woman took a defiant step toward him, her hands glowing with light blue sparks, "I'm already having a ****ty day and I hear misery loves company, *******."
"It makes sense that one would have a ****** day with weather like this. However, do not attempt to provoke me. I am not easily intimidated or subdued."
As Rainos said his words, leaves began to twirl around his body as lightning crackled up and down his arms.
Her nostrils flared before she took a deep breath, brushing her backside off, "yeah, I hate days like this. Just... watch where you're going next time."
Rainos cooled his jets and walked over to help her up and make sure she wasn't hurt. "Alright, I'll watch myself from now on. Why do you hate days like this? Also, my name's Rainos. What's yours?"
"Keara" she replied, shaking her head, "and because there's nothing exciting happening on cloudless days like this. They lack the energy... the excitement." She glanced to the sky wistfully before dusting herself off.
A grumbling stomach interrupted his quiet thought, reminding him that he hadn't had a bite to eat all day. He silently cursed, knowing that he had eaten the majority of the food in the house and would be forced to go outside on this mild and completely unintersting day.
