"Look, just calm down alright i'll get you out of this" Jaret scanned the horizon, looking for a place to hide, an unoccupied house, a forest, anything!
She eased in Jaret, less stressed than she had been and feeling exhausted. Jaret saw nothing to hide in, and their only real option was getting as far away as they possibly could.
Jaret continued running, to busy himself, he started talking to her "you know if i'm going to do this, i'll have to trust you, you know. so i'm going to have to know you so first things first, who are you, and where are you from?"
There was no reply. Clearly it had been a long night for her and she had expended the last bit of energy she had. Even though he was bouncing as he ran, she was somehow fast asleep.
When he stood panting, it was pitch black out. The speech had started at the beginning of the evening and Jaret had completely lost track of time. A voice called out from the darkness, "Hey, you there! What are you doing with that girl?"
Jaret, completely exausted, set the girl dow, and drew his sword
"why do you think that it's any of your buisness, sir, now come out and announce yourself"
A man stepped out of the shadows, tall and rather thick. He was wearing the black robes of an Immortalis student with the blue lapel of magic enforcement. The stranger looked like he was a high ranking officer... a bad sign, if the two companions were trying not to get caught.
"I am an officer of the law and I do not play games. Who are you carrying?"
goddamnit, why me, why now? jaret wonders in his head "she... she's my sister, we got lost and we'd been walking for some time, she collapsed, sir, could you point us in the direction of the nearest village." Jaret, truly tries to sell the story, eyes pleading to the officer, trying to look as wreched as possible
In an attempt to look thoughtful, the officer stroked his chin, "before I do that, why is she passed out? You two don't look old enough to be drinking."
"well, you see, my sister's prone to sudden fainting spells. thank you officer, could you point us in the direction of the nearest village and we'll be out of your hair"
oh, ****, i was hoping that i could avoid this, but " yes sir, let me pick her up for you" Jaret picks her up, then makes to hand her to the officer, palms open, when he is close to the officer, he shoots the two most powerful streams of water that he can from his hands, after shooting the officer, he turns and runs, energy garnered by fear driving his legs
The officer stumbled back and was slow to get up... perhaps he had been drinking that evening. With a dizzy head and totally confused, the officer failed to cast a spell and tried to yell out instead "Get back here!"
There was nowhere to hide. The lake was up ahead, and it seemed like the only plausible option for an escape. Even though she was asleep, her heart was beating quickly. Perhaps she was dreaming, or perhaps she was urging Jaret to push on... to take her to safety.
JAret ran into the lake afraid to dive under, because he wasn't sure what would happen to the girl, he tried to manipulate the water around him to create an air pocket in which they could hide (if it forms, he goes into it)
The attempt was successful as they jumped into the air bubble. He would have to be quick, though, because there was only a limited amount of oxygen in it. It was time that the girl needed to be waken up, or else neither one would make it across the lake.
Though the water didn't touch her mouth, she sputtered anyways and awoke. As she noticed the water around her, she instinctively flailed as she yelled, "Where are we?!"
"we're going away, as fast as the river is moving us, we'll have to resurface ourselves to refill on air, but until we do, tell me your story, starting with your name"
