"We recycled the fabric for the suit. I can make one for you, though, given a couple of days" he offered, "and to be totally honest, I've never even thought as Etna as anything more than a friend." Moroy rolled his eyes, "she's probably the one girl who I can say that about."
She nodded and looked at him. "Fair enough, but are you sure she won't mind if I cut in on the work? I mean, I can produce enough ice and flame to destroy the whole lab--but not a spark of lightning."
She crossed her arms and thought for a moment, debating something in her head.
"As long as I do the necessary work with her, she doesn't really mind what I do with the technology in my free time. I'll make you a cloak if you give me your measurements and hopefully 3 minds will be greater than two."
She eyed him warily and smirked, walking towards the door out. "I'm going out for lunch in the cafeteria in fifteen minutes. I'll have an answer for you then." She passed by the dressing screen. "Have fun, dear." She then shot a glance back at Moroy with a face that made him feel a bit of a sweat as she left.
Having finally sated her curiosity, Sylvia could focus on working now. She realized that he had made her involuntarily perspire ever-so-slightly and her heart was racing, yet again. When she sat at her workbench, the adjunct glanced at the flower in her pocket. It glistened in the light, showing off its brilliance and mocking her in a way that only a gift from a charmer could.
She leaned against her workbench and sighed, torn--would she, or not? She couldn't decide. The logical part of her was telling her to pull away, but this socialite had pushed the right buttons.
She wanted to be true to her word, she grabbed her sack and moved out, having barely gotten any real work done. She knew he would be there--she was sure of herself enough to get him to.
Once in the cafeteria, she sat off by herself as the others liked to congregate--she'd long since alienated the pyros and the icicles. Just like high school.
Moroy snuck up from behind her, placing a hand on her shoulder in a friendly fashion, "well look who's on time for a change. So... have you made up your mind?"
She jumped a little and looked up, shooting him a smirk as he went around to sit with her. "I'm not sure, Moroy. On one hand, I would love to work on this material with you. On the other hand..." She sighed and pulled out her lunch--simple, and utilitarian; a small sandwich and a thermos of soup. She touched it with a finger and he saw a small surge of red on the tip, then she opened it; it was piping hot.
She looked at him as she leaned against the table. "I'm not going to be coy. I'm starting to like you, Moroy, and I'm afraid if I do work with you, it'll get in the way." She had scruples, and she was known for being direct.
Moroy leaned his head in, tilting his ear toward her. "I'm sorry, I didn't quite catch all of that. What I believe you said was that you'd love to help me in my research and it would be a good chance to get to know each other and further improve employee relations."
He winked, "that is what you said, right?"
She eyed him with a slight scowl and sighed. "Listen, Moroy--you heard me. I know you well enough to treat you kindly and even offer to help working on your project with you. There's no reason to further any 'relations' we have unless you want to form some sort of closer bond, and that's what's got me on edge."
She blows on her soup and sips it. She was putting too much out there to be playing angles. She almost didn't believe he'd made her act like this so soon after meeting her.
Glancing nervously around the room, Moroy tried to address her as best he could, "I assure you that any feeling you may have for me or I may have for you will only be strengthened if we work together. Our thirst for knowledge will bind us, if nothing else will. Now can we take this conversation to somewhere a little less... noisy?"
People were filing into the cafeteria as the time for a midday meal approached. With the people came a dull roar that made a serious conversation hard to focus on.
She had become used to ignoring the crowd, but she sighed and thought for a moment, then stood up, packing up her things. "Fine. I need some fresh air anyway."
The two of them snuck out the back door of the lab, onto a small platform with a rail on its edge. Moroy leaned against the rail, looking around for a short while before trying to put his thoughts into words, "Sylvia, I don't know how to say this, but you're a pretty ineresting person and I'd love to work with you. I know it might be awkward at times, but your brilliance will surely be a vital asset to our research. Who knows, I might even be able to help you learn something."
Sylvia sighed and leaned against the rail, looking out over the platform, leaning on her elbows. She looked over at him. "It's not that I don't want to work with you, Moroy. I just.." She closed her eyes. "I have a hard time separating business with pleasure... if you get me." She looked up at him, biting her lip a little. She had a hard time not mixing anything, really.
Moroy placed a hand on her cheek, turning her to face him. He looked into her bright blue eyes, hesitating for just a moment while he admired them, "Sylvia, it's totally up to you. I know that you and I are both fond of experimentation, so I'm willing to try it and hope for the best. Still, it's your call."
Her gaze met his and for a moment his eyes pierced hers; she blushed a bit and sighed, looking down. "I don't know. Though I suppose I can't control everything--I need to let things happen as they come."
She smiled a bit, then nodded. "Alright, then. I'll apply to join your project. If anything it'll help me get some work done."
With a wide smile, Moroy suddenly grabbed Sylvia, pulling her into him and embracing her tightly. "Thank you" he whispered, gushing genuine appreciation.
Sylvia's eyes shot open and she gasped a little at his sudden movement. She blinked and blushed as he hugged her, her arms slowly moving around him in a soft and casual hug. "Of course.. ah.. Moroy." She forced a smile and looked at him as they stood there.
He broke their embrace, letting his hands linger and slide slowly against the sides of her waist as he took a step back, "well Etna is probably wondering what's taking me so long, so I should go get back to work. Swing by anytime, okay?"
"Oh, ah.. sure." She nodded and watched him go, sighing and running her fingers up along her hair, making sure no loose strands were out. She bit her lip. He seems genuine enough. He'd better be.
She finally went back to go eat in the cafeteria before she would return to work.
She couldn't help but notice his swagger as he left and how his coat contoured to his firm frame. Despite her best efforts, Sylvia couldn't dispel the curiosity to explore it just a little bit more... but now was hardly the time.
She pulled out her food and warmed her soup, though when she sipped it, it had lost much of its lustre.
She sighed and sipped her soup idly, trying to delay until she would see him--she was hinging on him. One minute she was fully resisting, the next she was falling hard. She cursed her dual personality at times. She sipped as much as she could stand and then packed up, leaving before the lunch crowd adjourned, going to her lab.
Though she would have never admitted it, she longed for another flower on her desk. She sat down and looked for one, to no avail. Not that she had gotten her hopes up or anything. The first flower that she had was still showing off its beauty for only her. A stack of papers sat in front of her, begging to be read though it seemed like the stack got bigger and more daunting every second.
