For a split second, Dante felt a brief wisp of accendo flow through his body. His moment of empowerment was quickly quashed when he heard the sound of heavy, plodding footsteps approaching him and, before he could react, the lizard-like creature collided with him.
The light adept let out a soft ugh as the slimy beast knocked him to the ground with considerable force. The creature was four-legged and its long tongue flailed about as it ran through Dante, circling him as the light adept got up.
"Come on, come on, come on..." Dante whispered to himself, as he focused on gathering as much accendo about himself as he could, as quickly as he could.
Feeling afraid, Dante could find no accendo. The beast had tackled him into a slightly more open area, treeless for a dozen metres or so. It was circling now, slowing its forward progress and turning back toward Dante. The light adept's heart pounded in his chest as he saw the beast staring right back at him with its tongue hanging from its mouth and drool pooling at its feet.
Come on...there's gotta be something for me to work with around here... He thought to himself looking around...for anythin accendo, a weapon, no matter how crude...something.
The only thing Dante found was a large stick. It was rather dull, barely sharp and altogether lacked the type of mystical heroism usually demonstrated by objects in trying times such as these. The stick was thick but somewhat damp, wholly inadequate for a prolonged duel but possibly enough to deter the beast that was slobbering across the clearing.
To Dante's surprise, the beast didn't charge. It stood where it was, swinging its head and letting its floppy tongue wave around while patting the ground with its foot, almost looking as if it were smiling.
The beast let out a low arf sound, patting the ground once again. For the first time, Dante read the accendo around the creature and rather than finding anger or hunger, he found a jovial aura about the creature. By the looks of it, it wasn't hunting. It wanted to play.
You...have...got to be kidding... On a chance, Dante snapped the branch in half. He waved the smaller half at the creature. "Want the stick? Huh? You want the stick, boy?" He said using playful tones.
The creature nodded emphatically, bounding from side to side as if ready to pounce any moment. The accendo around it hinted at complete euphoria and excitement, as though it hadn't had anybody to play with in its entire life.
The beast took a couple of playful leaps before its tongue shot out and grabbed the branch in midair. It swung it happily, making slobber coat the wood before looking intently back at Dante.
The beast jumped from side to side in complete bliss before taking a few gleefu steps toward Dante, unfurling its long tongue and offerin the light adept the slobber-covered stick.
Okay, maybe you're kinda cute... Lobbing the stick high, he said again. "Go get it!" A thought struck him. How could something so domestic be all the way out here...?
As the beast's tongue shot out quickly and snatched the stick, Dante observed the tiny bit of loneliness being snuffed out by utter satisfaction. The creature wrapped its tongue around the stick too tightly and the twig snapped. It jumped back and looked at dante bashfully, whimpering slightly.
It mewled slightly, laying down in front of Dante's. even with its legs extended in front of it, the creature was still nearly up to Dante's waist. It had short, nearly invisible hairs that covered its slick body. Whatever it was, it seemed like it hadn't been petted in its life.
it continued to mewl quietly before standing slowly but lowering its head. The accendo around it had once again changed from happiness to contented servitude.
Dante scratched the creature's head, and turned the way he came. "Come on then. Let's get a move on." He said, unfurling the scroll, hoping it may have some hints as to where he is, and how to get back on the trail.
The obedient creature plodded behind him, still carrying the splinters of stick in its tightly curled tongue. Thankfully, when his pet had charged at him through the thick foliage of the forest, it also coincidentally forged a makeshift path through the trees.
The light adept let out a soft ugh as the slimy beast knocked him to the ground with considerable force. The creature was four-legged and its long tongue flailed about as it ran through Dante, circling him as the light adept got up.
