The colonial ships that first landed on Disegreth had become engulfed by the planet hundreds of years ago and with them, the memories of the former Earth were buried. With the dawn of each new generation, a piece of humanity’s legacy was forgotten. Civilization’s successors had long forgotten what drove the earth to collapse upon itself; the cataclysmic change that would force the people of earth to seek a new planet to live on. Even Disegreth’s best scholars couldn’t remember exactly why the oceans started to freeze. The general consensus was that Earth’s atmosphere was changing and a great schism existed between political superpowers, making a solution to their problems very hard to find. When they finally understood the unequivocal damage that they had done to the Earth, the problems that Mother Nature had thrown at them were insurmountable and they had just once choice: leave Earth forever. There were only 6 that remained from those first colony ships. They were merely infants when the ships touched down. They had no recollection of the first few days when the people first realized that planet’s power, its innate ability to shape human emotions into actual actions through an invisible force that flowed like water all over the planet. This force became known as accendo. By the time these 6 special people were the age of 12, the great divide of the population of Disegreth had already occurred. They are now all aged 149. 3 of them became Sancti, Disegreth’s more austere population, devoted to maintaining normal human life on the planet. They had been taught since childhood that the manipulation of the currents of Disegreth was the reason that sin existed. Without the enemy’s constant manipulation of the planet, sin would not exist and Disegreth would be a utopia. The Sancti were strong, loyal and noble. They brandished traditional earth weaponry, using bows, axes and swords to lead their crusade against the enemy and to pave a uptopia. The other 3 became Nomeni and embraced the change that Disegreth offered. They let the currents of accendo flow through them, harnessing it for sorcery and letting the power of the new planet empower them. They lacked to strength to carry weapons and were often ruthlessly selfish, but they had the power that Disegreth gave them and they used it well. They had been indoctrinated as youths that the Sancti had no place on this planet. All those who don’t embrace its gift deserve to perish at the hands of it. These 6 remaining members were the Immortalis, and they governed their respected peoples. The wars between the Sancti and the Nomeni had been raging for well over a century with neither one gaining very much ground. The vast dead-zone that divided them had grown littered with bodies from both sides and with every great war came a new wave of hatred of the other. The Immortalis were all linked somehow, but nobody quite understood why. When they all simultaneously received The Prophecy, everything changed.
“Fellow Sancti!” started Edomiel in what would be a historic speech. He was the more intelligent of the Sancti’s Immortalis and the one that the most people unequivocally obeyed, “we have received a prophecy from God himself!” There was uproar from the crown as hands raised to the air in spiritual fervor, trying to connect with their lord. “He has told us that the power to liberate us has been placed on this planet! A great weapon is just beyond our land and it will liberate us all!” The second speaker was Kamala, the only female of the trio and her charisma bound every person who spoke with her. “This is a new age for us, brothers and sisters! We will rid this planet of the blasphemous sorcery and cleanse this place: returning it to the utopia that Earth once was!” Again, the vast population cheered at the thought of their return to Eden. Many wept, for they had never thought that this day would come. The final speaker was Frohirim, the strongest of the Sancti’s Immortalis. His brow was furled and he never relaxed, even amongst such fervent elation, “However. We must wage war once again. The Nomeni will not let us simply take this weapon! We must take a great risk in securing the weapon that we seek, but with great risk comes great reward. Can there be any greater reward that a return to paradise?!” His voice boomed and his people raised their fists in the air. The chant began with Frohirim, continued with Kamala and Edomiel and finally carried across the entire crowd. “To arms!” they exclaimed, “To arms!”
On the other side of Disegreth, the other half of the historic speech was being given. It was dark on this half of the planet on this evening but the Nomeni’s Imortalis were illuminated under the pale green glow of their followers. “The planet has informed us of a gift, one that will liberate us” started the earth scientist, Rodek. He was hunched and short but created powerful tremors using the accendo, ones that both sides were often afraid of. “Surely it will be the artifact that we have been seeking for years. It will give us unparalleled power. No longer will the accendo flow sporadically on the planet. It will become a single unrelenting force that we will harness for the bidding of the planet.” The crowd was pleased but stayed collected. The Nomeni knew that a sudden outburst of emotion in such concentration could ruin them. The second Immortalis to speak was Aureleos, master of water. “Disegreth has finally decided to reward us for protecting it. The planet now understands that the Sancti are ungrateful and illegitimate; they must perish.” “And thus we must seek this artifact at any cost” explained Auros, tamer of the winds, “we will secure this artifact and we will be relentless in finding it. Let anyone that stands in our way decompose and become part of this planet. Let them feel the true power that Disegreth gives us.” This time there was murmur and applause as the crowd conjured sparks to celebrate.
Far off in the dead-zone was the thing that both sides were looking for. The thing that would liberate whoever harnessed it. The thing that will secure victory in the largest war that Disegreth has ever seen.
The race has begun. Choose your side and fight for what is right.
