Nevin led them to the same armorer the other group had visited. He talks to the armorer for a few moments, and they all line up to get fitted for armor. Nevin himself doesn't get anything except a long wooden staff.
Liya gets the standard leather armor and skullcap, plus a short sword. "You'll probably do better with a sword until you've practiced a bit more in magic," Nevin tells her.
Harn gets different armor...in fact, his "armor" is nothing more than a dark, long-sleeved shirt and dark pants. "If you want to be stealthy," Nevin advises, "armor will only slow you down and make you noisy."Harn does get leather greaves and a dagger, though.
Sammy gets a long black cloak. "If your main talent is magic," Nevin tells him, "you need to be focused on your spells, and you have to be dextrous enough to make any hand motions you need. No armor for us pure mages." He pulls at his cloak for a moment as if to comment, but apparently changes his mind and says nothing.
Jadyn gets the leather-armor-and-skullcap set, plus a sword. It's palin-seeming gear, but serviceable enough.
Aleandra gets the mage-cloak. "It's got a very weak charm on it that makes you a little harder to see from a distance, but it won't stop anyone up close. Stay away from the front lines," Nevin says to her and Sammy.
Suven gets both his mace and his sword, plus that leather armor and skullcap. "You're lucky to get both weapons," growls the armorer. "Don't you lose them."
Bellamin and Thellotar are pulled aside for a moment. "Bellamin, did you want the mage stuff or the archer stuff?" Nevin asks. "And Thellotar, you said you're a mage, but you wanted to fight on the front lines and that means melee weapons in this company. Which armor would you prefer?"

Liya puts on the armor and straps the sword on her belt, then pulls the hood of her cloak over her head again.
She then looks a bit jealously at Aleandra as she gets a special cloak I would like if my cloak had such a charm on it as well ...
OOC: Just to let you know, Liya's abilities are all focused on an assassin-style mage.
Jadyn putss on his armor and sets about tightening the straps, when he is satisfied, he puts on the cap and fits it to his head. all armored up, he tests the balance of the sword he was given, giving it a few practice swings.
OOC: Just to let you know, Liya's abilities are all focused on an assassin-style mage.
Oh. Sorry 'bout that; I was just going on what everyone told me in the other thread. I can go back and change it if you want, but as long as you can use the sword then you can do OK in this armor. The army makes mistakes like this all the time, after all

Suven takes the weapons graciously. "Of course not, sir. A man's weapon is his life," he pauses, then continues on to himself, "but then, I have two. Does that mean I have two lives? Hm, interesting ideas..."

Thellotar spoke crisply, "Hm, you have quite an armorer here. I don't think metal would be a great idea since it conducts, so perhaps a lighter leather or animal skin? As for my weapon," he smiled as his eyes narrowed, "some sort of metal dagger, one on the longer side, would do nicely." He backed away for a while.
I was thinking of being some sort of assassin with some lightning magic, possibly using weapons as outlets through which to shock enemies. However, I suppose Liya is already filling a similar role of assassin mage, so I'm not so sure about that. I do think that my weather powers will eventually come more into play though.

OOC: after having a thought about it, I don't want the armor, but I do want the sword ;), she's stealthy enough with her black cloak but if you want to put a charm on it that stealths her even more that's ok too
If you can change it please do so.
Actually, uh, Nevin, sir, I'm pretty proficient with a Longbow too, but i love the light clothing. I like to fight from a distance, and it is nice to be mobile. The wind in the bow work really well together, you know
Nevin listened to everyone's discussion, and he spoke to the armorer again. The man's face darkened a bit, but he took back Liya's armor and gave her and Bellamin each a mage-cloak. He then got Bellamin his shortbow and Sammy his longbow. To Thellotar, he gives the standard leather armor and skullcap, plus a long dagger. "Yer in no danger from that armor, son," the armorer told him. "It's just boiled leather; we don't waste metal in that type o' gear."
By the way, Faerie Lord, all the mage-cloaks are the same....including the charm on them. Well, except Nevin's...
After everyone had gotten their armor on and their weapons together, Nevin led them out of the castle and towards the city.

"Si ... Nevin, where are we going, if I may ask so?" Liya asks Nevin, remembering the officer only wants to be called Nevin.
She gave Sammy a short glance, then turned her head, shadowed by the hood over it, towards Nevin, walking next the officer. If my father and brother were still here they would be proud of me, this is the only thing I can do to honor them after their deaths, take their place as warrior ...Liya thought.
She looked at the young officer, who was in fact, younger than she was, she smiled from under her hood at the thought.
Sammy smiled. He then played with the bow a bit. It seemed to be fo higher quality than anything he had ever used. He glanced back at Liya and quietly listened to see what Nevin would say.
Bellamin also tightened the newly-tied string on the well-worn shortbow. It felt... comfortable and natural, for some reason. Maybe this was my fate, decided by the Mother of Sea and Sky, all along? He continued at pacewith the rest of the group, letting the stream of people carry him along like the streams he swam in as a child. Tears welled up into Bellamin's eyes, thinking of his father, and suddenly wanted to be alone. He stayed with the group, however, while he drew tighter into his new but worn robes, and let the stream carry him as tears rolled down his face.
Sorry 'bout the vagueness of my previous post. The power was out over here, and I wanted to check some things before giving more detail about the city.
Nevin looked at Liya. "Just follow, for now. It'll all be clear enough soon."
The city teemed with people. Their group was but one of many travelling its roads, and the recruits had to be careful not to bump anyone as they hurried after Nevin.
The scenery was worth watching as well. At first, they passed tall, opulent buildings that were almost like small castles themselves, but as they got farther away from the castle, the splendor began to fade--apparently in direct proportion to their distance from the castle.
It was at a modestly propserous shop that Nevin halted. The shop had a stylized loaf of bread painted over the door, and the recruits could smell baked goods from the doorway. A boy who had been hawking the shop's wares in a squeaky voice stopped as Nevin approached, and he ran inside. Soon afterwards, a man in a flour-dusted apron came to the door and spoke to Nevin breifly.
The officer did not lead them inside the shop, however. Instead, they went around the side of the building, through a narrow alleyway. There were stables behind it, and the smell was rather different there.

"I don't see the problem in riding a horse, I did that since I was a child ... and that's quite a long time ago ..." Liya said from under her hood, still walking next to Nevin.
"Actually," Nevin said, "we aren't going to be riding the horses." He led them all into the stables, and they saw two large wagons with four horses hitched to each of them. "We're actually going to be guarding a shipment of supplies," he explained. "This particular shop gets its raw materials straight from the country, rather than buying them in the city where the prices are higher. However, the wagonneers have been having some trouble with bandits, and they wanted us to guard their shipment. I'll go into more detail as they ride along."
The wagonneers he mentioned were already in the wagons, holding the reins of their teams. Nevin got into one of the wagons and gestured for the others to climb in to them as well. "These'll be full on the way back, but while they're empty we can ride in them. It'll save everyone's legs for the walk back."
Sorry, Blane, no stable-mucking this time

If anyone asks you to update more slowly than once a day I swear I'll god-mod their character's head off ;). jk.
"You know, I think I may have spent the night in this place once." Suven says, "I asked for permission of course." He quickly adds to a horse as he climbs into a wagon.

I'm gonna assume that the one wagon has Nevin, Harn, Aleandra, Sammy, and Liya, and the other one has Thellotar, Bellamin, Jadyn, and Suven. Y'know I'm actually remembering all these names now?
When everyone was seated, the wagon drivers flicked the reins, and the wagons clattered out through the alley and into the street.
They headed towards the edge of town, moving slowly through the crowded streets. The buildings alongside became shabbier as they got farther and farther from the castle, and occasionally the drivers had to guide the horses around broken bits of road.
The city wall had just come into sight when they heard a commotion in an alley. A pedestrian--an unusually rich one, by the look of his clothing--had just been accosted by three unkempt-looking men. It was immediately obvious that the man was about to get mugged.
Nevin's face darkened. "We don't have to do anything about this," he said in a quiet voice that was only audible to those in his wagon, "because we're not soldiers, and we do have a schedule to keep with this delivery. But I'll help out if you'd like to deal with this." He held his hand near his mouth and spoke again, but this time his voice was audible in the other wagon.
He then sat back as if he had no idea what was going on behind his back, as the three men closed in on their wealthy-looking victim.

"I say we help the attacked man, but unintrusively. For example, these would-be burglars could mysteriously slide and fall on the cobblestone..." Bellamin toyed with a small orb of water using his limited magical abilities.
Liya gets the standard leather armor and skullcap, plus a short sword. "You'll probably do better with a sword until you've practiced a bit more in magic," Nevin tells her.

Everything is standardized in the army. Sammy's cloak is black, and so are all the other mage-cloaks (for new recruits, anyway).
