The Town Square & Customhouse of Salem is known quite well throughout the colonies.
When one first approaches it, they would find their person floating amidst a sea of olfactory pleasures and sights that truly stun the eye.
The square itself is not all that fantastic, or at least seems rather average to those found in Britain. It's lone adornment is a 10-foot statue of bronze in the center of the square. The statue itself, is a bit of a mystery to the inhabitants of Salem. All that is visible is the lower portion and torso of a robed figure, and in it's rusting hands, a book with an inscription on the cover, which reads "ubi dubium ibi libertas".
Most believe it once was a statue of the Virgin Mother and her Child, however, debate still continues over whether or not the statue is male or female.
However, the statue is not the only thing inside the square. As with most squares, it is often littered with people going this way and that, as well as small businesses and shops. But, the thing which draws the attention of most patrons, is the customhouse.
The customhouse is a marvel for man. So ingenious was its conception, that most men find it hard to believe that such a construct could have been built by man.
It is possibly the only building in the Americas to exceed a staggering 40 feet in height. The first floor of the building is a small gathering lounge where those who detest the alcohol and smoke in the tavern meet and discuss such matters as they find important, whereas the second floor is home to the famous wine shop Le Vin, which is owned by a Frenchman by the name of Carnerie.
The third and final floor is a bit of an enigmatic construction to the uninitiated. Rumor has it that the Knights Templar use it as a meeting place or warehouse, however, several independant investigations into this have led to no real results. To the initiated, however...
Georges lies, apparently asleep, at the base of the statue, one arm slung over his eyes, the other lying by his side, clutching an empty bottle of whiskey. However, he isn't actually asleep; he's fully awake and starting to regret having drunk the whole bottle of whiskey the night before, both because he was suffering from a severe hangover and he didn't have any more whiskey.

Georg was seated at a bench in the square, looking over a sheet of music. After observing and studying it for about 10 minutes, he picks up his violin, and begins to play it, not paying any heed to the others around him.
Windham walks into the square, one hand resting on the baskethilt of his rapier and another holding up a hankerchief to his face to protect his senses from the odious barrage.

'Lo, there do I see my father. 'Lo, there do I see my mother, and my sisters, and my brothers. 'Lo, there do I see the line of my people back to the beginning. 'Lo, they do call to me. They bid me to take my place amongst them in the halls of Valhalla. Where the brave may live forever.
Walter walks into the square with change jingling in his pocket. Having just been paid by his father, he is eager to buy more supplies for their shop. Seeing Georg playing the violin, he walks up, and asks,
Walter:"Hello, is their any reason you sit here playing your instrument as you do?"

Paul wanders into the square, some spare change in his pocket, and looks around.
Paul is greeted with a bustling hub of activity - mostly from men and women walking about here or there in the middle of some immensely important - at least as far as they were concerned - task.
Slowly, but surely, Georges begins to lean ever so slightly and steadily toward the ground. After a great chasm of time, in his mind, Georges abruptly snapped back to full consciousness and quickly looked around the square again. He finds a man playing a violin with his sharp, but slightly greyed-over eyes.

Walter:"Hello, is their any reason you sit here playing your instrument as you do?"
An old man turns to Walter.
Old Man (1) - "And pray tell, young one, under what pretense you wish to seperate a man from his music? Ought we not all be entitled to such joys and trifles as we might?"
((And no, I wasn't "ignoring" any of you or accidentally skipping some of you, but rather, letting you have a little more freedom to interact with the presented characters and npcs.))
Georg stops playing immediately, and turns to Walter. A little surprised, he says, "Why, my friend, the music is what I live for. Without it, I feel incomplete, and I feel a need to share it with others, so that they too might feel the joy that I do."
Georges grumbles incoherently about "crazy musicians disturbing the hung-over" and raises his empty whiskey bottle to his lips. Frowning, he looks into it and sets it aside, realizing for the first time a slight hunger. He sets his bottle aside and starts looking around for something to eat and checking his pockets for any money he could use to buy it.

He hardly notices the girl until she's right near his face.

Girl - "Hey mista'! Whatcha' doin'?"
Georges winces slightly at the girl's voice. How much did I drink last night, he thinks, to have a hang-over like this? He looks at the girl and says, "I'm looking for something to eat, do you think you could help me find something?"
