Wizards has censored his art work, taken down or forced him to take down his art. They have done this cause they are perhaps homophobic or just strong arming a free lancer into doing as they want or loosing his lively hood.
they have no right to do this. He has a right under FAIR USE to do the work he is doing.
Please do not lock this, we need to stand by him, this is an important issuie. this is censorship!

Is this about his awesome work with chandra and liliana? Did he make money off of that? If not, then how is this illegal?

That image is down, nearly all the images he had (even stuff like venture brother drawings over MTG cards) are down from his tumbler and other web sites.
Most of his art work and mods are jut down.
and to respond to the legality, it is not legal. it is legal under fair use, what they are doing is strong arming him with future contracts to force him to comply to there wishes. We need to speak up! we can not let them treat one of our artiest like that.

Or maybe they have a stake in how their characters are portrayed, and having one of their key artists putting them in a situation that could be unappealing to parents or paying customers could very well damage their brand.
Posting some remark about them being homophobic is an overreaction. There's no point in grabbing pitchforks until we actually have a good understanding of what actually happened.
If they "have no right to do this", then why did he comply? He essentially works for wizards, and made his bosses mad.
Well, in my opinion it was a bit sleazy for an official Magic artist to post something like that. I mean from the average fan it's fan art, but for a magic artist? He should know better not to draw Wizards characters in something like this. I have met Steve Argyle and he's a great guy, but I don't agree with his choice pertaining this piece of artwork.
I don't agree with all of his art being taken down, but I somewhat agree with that particular artwork being taken down. It's as if Jack Kirby decided to draw some art depicting Captain America in a suggestive pose with Wolverine.
The actual art was good, and I have no problem with gay people but it looks bad on the company as a whole if an official artist draws something like this in my opinion.

There are cards of people acting sexual in magic, the issue is that it is two women.
Also, the issuie is not if wizards wants him to paint those or not. It is not relevant he has the right to. They were not over graphic, and this is a stunning reach of power.

The issue is not two women. The issue is two main characters integral to the story line acting in this manner.
If Steve drew a picture of two random characters in medieval style garb doing the same pose then Wizards probably wouldn't have such a huge problem with it.
The problem is that these two characters (Liliana and Chandra) are two main focuses not only of the story, but of MTG advertising in general.

How do you know that was the issue? My point was that we don't know. We just don't. You can make all the assumptions you want, but they're not facts.
Wizards clearly likes having control over their characters. They put them in books, on their main product, on shirts, binders, sleeves, everything. If someone random does some work with their characters, it's probably not a big deal, but he does work for WOTC, so if he wants to continue doing so, he needs to comply with their wishes.
I think the post i saw was about how magic players don't know anything about sex anyway, though that might have just been a different post that got deleted.
Edit:
They usually try to get rid of stuff like that, since it doesn't really contribute anything and usually derails a thread.
Just like this!
Giving away cards depicting Demons that ask you to sacrifice humans in the prerelease? Sure thing! Two girls that don't show any less clothes than regular magic artwork in a provocative situation? You ain't working anymore for WOTC, son!
It's because Steve has made art for those two characters that are on actual cards, so it can lead people into believing that this is also official card artwork, making it nsfw.
becuase it was..... no joke. i came back and it was gone...
either my browser screwed up or whoever took it down put it back up.
Ill go with the browser lol, either way i look like an ass, but my point about jace and gideon remains valid:embarrass:
Sorin and gideon is better...the Fangirls want the brooding emo dudes to be nebulous in their sexuality.
On topic, I haven't seen the art in question but from what I'm seeing in this thread I think wizards overreacted. If this had been drawn by you or I it's a nonissue as it would be protected under laws governing parody....since he has a business arrangement with wizards things get a little diceyer

I honestly can't think of a single piece of Magic art that has people acting touchy-feely. (I'm sure there's one, somewhere, but it's pretty rare.) Sure, there are lots of near-nude women, but most of them look to be rather casual about their lack of attire.
I expect the exact same thing would've happened were it Jace and Liliana instead.

When you peer long enough through the depths, the depths peer also through you.
While it may be under fair use, he has a contract with wotc they can terminate that when they wish(probably or at least say choose other art for the same cards he is contracted for) so its probably better for him to take them down and still make awesome magic card art work than leave up the picture in quiestion.

He posted a sketch of Liliana seducing Chandra on the ground on his blog, and allegedly Wizards made him take it down.

And Jace and Gideon in a similar scenario. That would totally get more women playing.
like, the three ive made have been deleted or something.
