I am glad he won. He deserved it. As long as Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa, Willy Edel, Stephen Menendian, Evan Erwin didn't win I am a happy camper.
However, I don't really like his card he submitted. Not right now atleast. I am sure it will see play though, just about every single card from the invitational seen play.
I have to say I hate that card. Congratz to Tiago, but I wish your cards had been some kind of dragon, or at LEAST not a counterspell...Though I know I'm biased against blue. It looks like it should have the Channel mechanic actually.
Hey, is there anyone else on the forums going to Rice University in Houston? We could ALWAYS use more people in our Magic games. PM me if you want to play sometime
Jace on the other hand gives you card advantage for no life cost. On the contrary, Jace can actually take some damage for you. I'd think that makes him better than Arena.
I like the card. A bit underpowered, though, perhaps it should add blue mana and the ability should cost less.
4 mana is fine. It's not going to be used as an early counter, but for some late game advantage. Rather then just drawing another dead land late game for Permission, you draw into a counterspell. Anything that pulls double duty with no huge drawback is pretty good.

Same, if it cost any less, then we may have some problems with Cancel and other hard counters.
Yeah, but I thought Wizards had the policy of "not making cards that completely obsoletes older cards", particularly since this card will most likely be a rare.
And at the same time, I can't see how they could change it to retain the simplicity of the card without having to completely nerf it, or completely overpower it.

Congrats to Tiago Chan, I'm glad his card is getting printed over that random crap Rich was trying to create. I have no doubt that if this card is printed as is it wil definitely see play.
I just realized. Mycoloth perfectly demonstrates the devour mechanic.
Mycoloth: NOMNOMNOM on Dragon Fodder.
One turn later, 1/1 turds come out.

btw i did it because i could. i was bored and decided to let my little med-free spree go ahead. I am bipolar, explaining all the drama that ensued after. I have problems.

It was a submitted card but the person who submitted didn't win.
I do believe you are wrong here, genesys. I don't remember off hand who exactly designed the card (though I do know it was one of the Asian dudes), but I remember that it was submitted under the name "Unluckyman's Paradise". The card as submitted, I believe, didn't require the removal of a card in your hand, but otherwise it was printed as submitted. I think that it was the card that required the least amount of changing of any other Invitational card.
On another note, I was looking through the cards and I came upon Kenji's card, I Hate Pacts. What does the card have to do with hating the Pacts? If anything, it makes them even more powerful. Unless the reason he hates them is the fact that he has to remember to pay for them on his next upkeep...
Anywho, congratulations Tiago! It's nice to see another departure from the creature submission. I'm looking forward to the time when we finally get an Invitational winner who submitted either an enchantment, instant, or sorcery. And it needs to stay as such.

Nope, not yet. I can't figure out how they're going to get over Bibi/Sleur (Ruel's card).

If an opponent would shuffle his or her library, instead you may search that library for a card, that player shuffles the rest, you put the card on top of that library, then you draw a card.

There was a story that he was upset because four people almost forgot to pay their Pact cost, and he could only stop three of them from drawing a card in their draw step. Kenji didn't want to win like that and had to take it that one time. He just dosen't like the 'you lose the game' text on there.
I don't either, but if the schmuck forgets to pay, that's his own damn fault.

Don't read anything LaPille. Your brain will thank you later. ----> VICTORY!
In theory, they could just change it into a manland a la Dryad Arbor.
Denying Channelkeeper
(+Legendary?) Land Creature - Island Wizard
1/1 (Denying Channelkeeper isn't a spell, it's affected by summoning sickness, and it has "T: Add 1 to your mana pool.")
The name is too long, but other than that, is it not overpowered as a manland (summoning sickness is a drawback)? Should it be Legendary? Would it be "Legendary" or "Legend"?
If it would need nerfing and a Legendary clause isn't enough, I would playtest a FoW-like channel cost instead - 3UU, -1 life, remove a blue card ... but that starts to get too wordy.
How is it nuts? It's still a Last Word that's going to be played in standard, but probably not any other format. Last Word wasn't played in many (if any) successful decks last time I checked.
I think the man land idea is a great idea, and probably the way to do it if they want to keep the creature cycle.
Unless, of course, they just make it a creature that had tap: add 1 to your mana pool, and could channel counterspell for 2UU. But that mana ability would seem a little odd.

It's been said before, it's an extra permission spell at no extra cost - turns those dead draws into a winner, and also integrates fine into your mana base to start. Very versatile. You can just play it as a land and forget about it if you need to. Last word does not give you that option.

Hmm, I can't say I'm a fan of this card though. I hope he meant Sacrifice, not Discard.

I imagine its closer to the Channel ability from Saviors of Kamigawa.

One thing I know for sure is that if they decide to print the card as is (ie a land), they would be breaking a long standing tradition of Invitational cards always being creatures (Avalance Rider, Rootwater Thief, Meddling Mage, Shadowmage Infiltrator, Sylvan Safekeeper, Voidmage Prodigy, Rakdos Augermage).
