Update (2008-11-16): Incredibly, just two weeks later, Luis Scott-Vargas has won Grand Prix Atlanta 2008, in a completely different format (Shards of Alara Limited). See the full details at http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/eventcoverage/gpatl08/welcome. Interestingly enough, Tomoharu Saito was also in the Top 8 of GP Atlanta, just like in PT Berlin.

A great top 8 in terms of quality, but with 6 fricking Elf decks, and both semis being Elf mirror-matches, I say screw Extended. Even more than before.
Congrats LSV, though to me Kenny will be the moral champion...

Is it safe to say that American Magic is at the top of its game?
Glimpse of Nature is (for now) a chase card. The soonest ending auction on ebay is currently at 32 dollars for a playset. SCG is sold out, they were selling them 5 apiece.
The final match was fun to watch, I certainly am glad he won.

I don't have any hard numbers on this, but I'm targeted more often than a black guy driving a beat-up sedan with a broken tail-light and no license plate, and Cy's well aware of that.
I think I have 6 or so glimpse of nature sitting in my 'crap-binder' =/ They sure as hell showed me what's up. Elf-ball should drop off the map a bit when people figure out how to beat it consistently.
Elf decks will start to die now cause people will hate the hell of the deck out of the format. The worst kept secret of the format will now see a gruesome fate now that people actually seen how much the deck was used.
I doubt this will turn into How flash was in legacy.
For all the complaining about how unfair the card is, how expensive it is, how it "wrecks Magic" and likely due to the number of ElfBall decks in the top 8, there were exactly ZERO copies of the so-called best creature in Magic, Tarmogoyf.
Also, coming into this event, most of us knew that a green common creature from Shards would have a huge impact on it and would likely win it all. We just had the wrong one winning it, didn't we?

We lived to see the day when somebody said that... If I sigged quotes, you would be the man
I still think the coolest innovation is Kenny Oberg's. Yesterday I was very sure he would dominate... his deck is much better, he didn't netdeck it, and he lost also because he mulliganned once to 4...
Dunno which deck I love most... I love Tezzerator because it's so full of answers, but Elves! is undoubtely great. They're both dificult decks to play, a lot of choices involved... but we expected nothing less from a top 8.
I am actually really shocked that affinity didn't even make top 8. Everyone was saying: Oh Oh, affinity is going to take the format with orim's chant and ichroid gone. I guess people were packing enough hate in the sideboard...
I think LSV got pretty lucky. His deck was not very well tuned for mirror, unlike Saito's. Tezzerator with maindeck Trinisphere could have gone either way.
I suspect that if it had been 100+ matches of round robin, Saito would have been the clear winner.
As others have said, I'm happy to see an extended with only about $1000 in the total cost of top 8 decks.

Alcoholism is a disease, but it's the only one you can get yelled at for having. "God**** it Otto, you are an alcoholic." "God**** it Otto, you have Lupus" ... one of those two doesn't sound right.
Frankly, for my first PTQ, I fully expect to take black stax and run with that (of course...lets see how it tests first).

it didn't make top 8 because virtually no one was even playing the deck as most of the players and commentators pointed out.

The GJ way path to no lynching:
I suspect that if it had been 100+ matches of round robin, Saito would have been the clear winner.
As others have said, I'm happy to see an extended with only about $1000 in the total cost of top 8 decks.
All-in Red packing 4 SB Trinisphere
Frankly, for my first PTQ, I fully expect to take black stax and run with that (of course...lets see how it tests first).
Decks:

UGB Breakfast

<StRonG>W</tRonG> Beatdown at its Finest
GWR Big Beatz
<StRonG>B</tRonG> The one you hate
techoverrated.I don't think so. Elfball is easy to hate: Chalice of the Void, Darkblast, Firespout, Goblin Sharpshooter, Pyroclasm, Slice and Dice, Trinisphere, etc. It did as well as it did because people weren't sufficiently prepared for it with hate cards in the SB.
- Jon Finkel believes in maintaining a healthy, balanced diet. He gets all his fiber from eating Magic cards for breakfast, and all his protein from eating Magic players for lunch.
Alcoholism is a disease, but it's the only one you can get yelled at for having. "God**** it Otto, you are an alcoholic." "God**** it Otto, you have Lupus" ... one of those two doesn't sound right.
A perfect answer to NoSB is Gaea's Anthem.

it didn't make top 8 because virtually no one was even playing the deck as most of the players and commentators pointed out.
