I think that the biggest reason they are doing this is that they are getting a bit tired of signing the checks to the same people over and over and over. I know that most of the JSS areas have one or 2 players that just outright win all the events, and it gets really really old to hear about it. It dosent encourage competition, and its just not healthy for the game.
Hooray for all you kids lucky enough to be riding that train for a few more years - one of my friends dosent even play anymore, and hes STILL riding the scholarships. And to those of you comfortable in your complatency as the best player in your region under 16 - hold on

I get your point, but I just think letting a bunch of older kids in the tournament is against what the JSS stands for, which is letting the youngest players get a chance to play and have fun in a tournament setting. Losing to a bunch of kids way smarter than you that are 5-6 years older than you isn't fun, and neither is playing at the last table because of it.
I wish Wizards could have just created a new thing for kids 14-18 instead of making all of the 10-11 year olds play against high school students. It seemed like a pretty simple solution.
That would have been ALOT easier. I would wish they could do that, because im not going to be too happy with myself winning because of i got some "Bye" Matches, But on the other hand, in some places were there is fewer players in the 10-13 age they couldnt hold a tourney for aspiring novices. So yeah. Gotta just bite the bullet on this one small children. It will hopefully be a learning experience for the Little'uns

You are pretty much contradicting yourself. As an avid JSS player around 04 and 05, I can say without a doubt that the people who qualified and got money in the years past will just do it again. I hate to sound arrogant, but the good players back then who were winning who have gone on to much harder and rigorous events are going to come back and destroy the kids who are still working up the ladders.
All wizards is doing is letting the players who got paid get paid some more. I can't say I understand why or agree with what they are doing, but I'm 16, and I am sure going to enjoy playing again!
