R.E.: Yes! I really want to sell my 2 complete Power Nine Beta sets!
Dear friend,
Hi.
How are you?
I am writing this email to you because I need serious help (financially). This collection that I am selling is well-worth $20,000 (includes 5,000 FREE random rares) because of the not one, but TWO complete Power Nine Beta sets. I am NOT in this business to "rip" people off, since I know better than that as I am trying to graduate this semester at Harvard University (major: Engineering). I need only $4,000 (see for full details below) to pay off my final year's tuition, books, electric bills, utility expenses, food, and last but not least, my rent at Harvard University, where I will be graduating this December 2005 with my prestigious Engineering degree and hopefully I will be making over $150,000 a year at (hopefully) Microsoft working with Bill Gates or with Donald Trump.
Anyway, enough about me. This is for you: please read fully about what I am selling because there are NO (I repeat: NO) refunds once I cash in your check or money order. I have already double checked for accuracy the entire package of 5,018 rare cards and I am even willing to give you my local comic book store dealer's address AND phone number where you can verify with the owner the authenticity of my 2 Power Nine Beta sets in near-mint condition!!!
I have not one, but two (2) complete beta power nine sets that I would love to sell to you. These eighteen (18) power cards are in near-mint condition. I can sell these 18 powerful and hard to find cards (beta rares) to you for only $4,000 - but that's not all. I will also throw in 5,000 random rares worth $5,000 or more absolutely free. You are getting a total of 5,018 cards including the eighteen (18) power nine cards. Yes, I have each of the 18 power nine cards and they are once again in Beta edition. Why am I doing this? I have recently declared bankrupt and cannot afford to sell on ebay due to the high listing fees. I can be reached at: 813-298-5584. Call me or email me quickly, please. Thank you so much in advance. - Danny. 813-298-5584.
The nine Power nine cards consists of the following:
1. Mox Emerald Beta x2 (Add 1 green mana to your mana pool. Tapping this artifact can be played as an interrupt.)
2. Mox Jet Beta x2 (Add 1 black mana to your mana pool. Tapping this artifact can be played as an interrupt.)
3. Mox Ruby Beta x2 (Add 1 red mana to your mana pool. Tapping this artifact can be played as an interrupt.)
4. Mox Sapphire Beta x2 (Add 1 blue mana to your mana pool. Tapping this artifact can be played as an interrupt.)
5. Mox Pearl Beta x2 (Add 1 white mana to your mana pool. Tapping this artifact can be played as an interrupt.)
6. Time Walk Beta x2 (Take an extra turn after this one.)
7. Ancestral Recall Beta x2 (Draw 3 cards or force opponent to draw 3 cards.)
8. Time Walk Beta x2 (You should know what this card does.)
9. Black Lotus Beta x2 (You should know what this card does.)
You get all eighteen (18) power nine cards P9 in near-mint condition. Although only one card is bent and out of shape, the other seventeen (17) rare cards are in good shape. The card that is bent and out of shape is my second Time Walk Beta card. Sorry if that disappoints you.
I have been collecting Magic the Gathering Power Nine cards since the dawn of time. This is the best collection I have ever collected. I know (and you know) that this collection is worth over $10,000 if bought even on a cheap online site like Ebay. I have spent over $5,000 out of pocket CASH for most of these cards. I even traded online and with several friends at a local comic book shop for these cards also.
I am asking you nicely for $4000 for all of these eighteen (18) cards, plus I am including 5000 random rare cards from all editions absolutely free just because I am a nice person. The value of these 5000 random rare card is over $5,000. It would be like opening 5,000 booster packs when you buy each booster pack for $2.50 each. Some booster packs even cost as much as $4.00!!! Just image the amount of money you are saving!!!
I will not tell you what the 5,000 random rares you will receive if you decide to purchase my entire collection of 5,018 rare cards only. I will try my best to pick out the ones I feel desirable and maybe I will include as many as 20 Dual lands, 20 Sliver Queens, 20 Morphlings, and 20 other $20 or more value cards.
I need the $4000 immediately to pay off my bills and electricity and especially rent. I have school as well that needs to be paid off soon. I must sell this entire collection BY next week. The first person that calls me and pays me either with PAYPAL or ESCROW gets this entire collection of 5,018 rare cards.
Call me or email me quickly, please. Thank you so much in advance. - Danny. 813-298-5584.
P.S. For an additional $500 I can include 50 dual lands of your choice (@ $10 each for dual lands x 50 of them), or 1,000 random rares @ $0.20 each x 1,000 of them!!! This is not a hoax or spam!!! My loss is simply YOUR Gain!!!
Don't bother calling his phone. There's no reason to harrass the guy just because he's an idiot. Besides, it might not actually be his number (also it could be one of those 809-area-code $$$$ traps )
So, if you see this message, or a similar one, go up on any of the boards, please report it IMMEDIATELY so that we can delete the thread(s) and ban the user. Don't bother replying; your reply will be deleted along with the thread. Just click the Report button.
And danny, if you're reading this, bug off. Nobody's falling for the card deal and it takes us like five seconds to ban each new account.
thx goblin boy, for a sec he posted that in the rumor mill and i was tryin to straightin it out for him that that belonged in sales. but when i posted his post was gone so i just deleted mine. thx for telling everyone bout htis it was a bit annoying.
Is it really necessary for this to be a 'News' item?
Yes, mainly for this part:

An announcement could have worked in lieu of a News announcement, but those are harder to see and not as eye-catching.

Sorry but what exactly are you refering too?
Some off-shore area codes are capable of charging your phone a large amount of money per minute.
sad guy. Who confirmed it was a scam? I mean, sure it is a suspicious message, but nothing in that message explicitely yells "SCAM" at me. I am assuming the spamming did it. I hate spammers.

Seriously, that guy was a total pain in the ass, I'm glad he's been put down like a rabid dog. Smell ya later, scammer-wannabe. Good work, mod-squad.
Reverse searching it only gave me the service provider, XO Florida Inc. I'm guessing prepaid cell. I don't have the stones (or free long distance) to call it and find out what it really is. Maybe someone local to it could try.

Is it really necessary for this to be a 'News' item?
absolutely. when something like this happens and affects multiple websites, that makes it news. plus, something like this on the front page makes people go "hey, look, now i'm informed". not that i saw any of these posts personally, but others have.

XO Florida Inc should be enough to confirm it as a scam, if it wasn't one already.
wasn't he supposed to be attending Harvard? why would he have a Florida-based cell? that'd probably be sapping up his money faster than tuition.
thank you for letting us know. i saw one of these posts.. it was pretty terrible.
I saw the posts and immediatly alarm bells started goign off in my head saying that somethign isnt right. its probably a scam of some type. I also didnt know that this person used multiple accounts and was posting this on other forums too.
Definatly newsworthy as it could prevent someobody form getting ripped off by this person.

Most cell phone plans these days don't have long distance...so people who are in college it really doesn't matter. Personally my sell phone provider we are locked into a plan where long distance and regular phone calls are the same cheap local rate.
He hit over at casualplayers.org as well.If you google the number one of the first matches comes up with him as a male escort nick named Jen with the real name danny cheung.
Couldn't the mods just lock out the user's ip address, would not that be easier then just banning the accounts as they pop up? I was just wondering, I heard that causes problems and can be by-passed too, said and done I know little about the running of a forum site, so I was just curious.

That is pretty funny though that is comes back to him as a male escort, he is probably one of those really bored people who think up diabolical ways to annoy people and get their jolly rocks off with schemes that often make sense only to the person who thought them up, if they make any sense at all.

They could lock out his IP, but there are ways to get around that. If you know what you're doing, they take five seconds. So that really wouldn't work.

Definately - it's easy for those who can clearly see the scam to say 'it's obvious', but the constant barrage of emails I get sent from intelligent friends that are forwards along the lines of 'Microsoft is doing XYZ, forward this email and Microsoft will send you $XZY' shows that you can never be too careful, nor can you underestimate others' ability to fall into a trap. His whole post is clearly a scam, but I only know that because I work online for a living and I know what to look for. The very language that screams 'SCAM' to me is the language used to calm the fears of those who don't know any better.
While the backdata you guys supply makes it amusing with the escort agency etc. you must still remember there is someone trying to deliberatly scam someone out of $4000 dollars - and what he's offering would, if genuine, be extremely appealing.
You'd hope someone prepared to drop $4000 for some cards would have better sense, but he only needs 1 person to fall for it and suddenly someone's world is ruined.
