Inside any forum section of News there is an announcment by Darth Cow that it will be upgraded. Discuss (OR ELSE!). Maybe we had something to do with it. Maybe not.
We are out own board remember? We do not need to keep up with the Jones! And it anyway it may not happen, they have made false promises before. Anyway we are alreadt trying to upgrade, but forum upgrades is not what we need!
Yeah, they're switching to vB 3.0.5- .0.1 more advanced that our forums. As well, I believe, they're going to install several mods and what-have-you, so that, at least in software, these forums will be roughly equal.

Be no more afraid of your voice now,
nor more ashamed of its being heard,
than when you sang the songs of Satan.
Notice that for some reason Darth Cow is now is now a retired administrator. Hmm, I wonder exactly what is going on behind the scenes over there. Obviously there is still turmoil with the site's management.

...He's always been a retired Administrator. x.x. In fact, he Retired over a year ago- the only reason he's posting there right now is to do the hacks for them, which is the same reason he's here for... to my knowledge.

That's correct, Senori. His tag has been Retired Administrator for the entirety of the time since DG sold to Raa, except for a couple of days last week when it somehow got changed and lost the 'Retired' part. But yeah..he posts some in our Staff Lounge, but, he's really just there to do some fixes etc for us...really, it's all mostly stuff that we had before the upgrade, and I don't think it's anything that isn't here...to my knowledge.
Good to see News getting some work done. I'm sorry it took the resignation of most of the team to make that happen. It's a little too little, much too late.
The difference between the versions 3.0.4 and 3.0.5 is quite nominal. The main reason for the updated version number is one major security flaw that in fact neither site was vulnerable to.
SorryGuy - The work (forum upgrade) will get done Sunday night.
My status has not changed on MTGnews in about a year as Senori said. The change in my tag was unintentional. I'm still retired over there - I'm doing this work on a one time basis, at least for now.
I'm an admin here just to do a few hack things, too. I'm not sticking around as a full administrator actually administrating the forums. No setting policies or banning anyone for me :).

Thanks for the update, must of had a little time to spare between ripping people on trades.
Unprovable accusations such as that are unwelcome here. It also is an unprovoked attack, ergo, a flame.
As for 'news's update, it won't be anything major enough to even notice, especially to those of us who barely go there. It used to be my homepage until I realized that it gives them free banner_ad hits.

lol, yuppers. i think this is caused more by the fear of losing more people and trying to compete with salvation rather then actually upgrading the site which should have happened way back when. Much too late indeed.

My mistake I said that before I clicked the link over there and read it. At first I though it was a Major overhaul that was planned, I did not know a date was given. My mistake but you must agree there have been false promises from the site in the past.
Well, at the moment MTG News is in a HUGE hole and needs to try to get out of it. I am guessing that maybe they are trying to bring more people in and back saying "we are getting an upgrade", but seriously, won't work. =/
The difference between the versions 3.0.4 and 3.0.5 is quite nominal.
The major difference is that the HTTP_REFERER check works in .5 and doesn't work in .4. This means these sites remain vulnerable to a self-submitting form attack similar to the one that struck the Wizards boards on or around the 10th of last month. A stopgap solution is to hack the init.php file according to the instructions given on www.vbulletin.com in this thread.
Of course, I put off upgrading EN World since February and jumped from 3.0.0RC4 to 3.0.5 in one go.
I didn't want to start a new thread for it or anything, but I for one absolutely love the new Trade Feedback system built-in to Salvation! Thank you mods for imp'ing this! The best feature of it is being able to see the refs that the person who's feedback you're looking at has given to others, so you can tell whether or not they're botting or something =)

Actually, we updated to fix the sercurity problems stated by Darth, and so that we could re-impliment hacks such as dice. I'm not sure why you think we did it for the Salvation posters; we did it for our own posters.
Just a note, two updates it looks like we will not be getting are images in sigs and the massive emoticons. The images are up in the air at the moment, as we are trying to taking loading time for slow-connection users into account, but those massive smilies won't be appearing anytime soon. Mainly because they're infuriating.
Here's the thing: they aren't annoying if you browse the boards a lot (as Xenphire does) and have downloaded and cached most of them in your browser. This means when you load a new thread you don't have to download them all again, just the few that have been posted by somebody whose posts you haven't seen before or that have been changed. For casual visiters on dial-up who have not seen and cached most signature images before, they can be a pain. So perhaps they should be turned off by default for guests.
Options allows you to disable signatures entirely, so, it really shouldn't be an issue for people with low bandwidth anyway.
Greg already said that he would foot the bill for this, Darth, in one of those threads in Admin.
Adding images to signatures isn't really a billable thing :p. It's flipping one option in the admin cp :). You guys are welcome to do that yourself if you life. (It's in vBulletin Options > User Profile Options)

So in short, upgrading the forums will have no serious sideeffects other than to repair a glitch?
Are you sure that is all the Upgrade will do?
