It's good to hear that you got your account handed back over and S_S fessed up... will there ever be a time when the WHOLE story is released to the MTGNews/Salvation public? I know that mod discussions are not meant to be released, but I do feel that EVERYONE is entitled to know exactly what happened.
Obviously you'd all have to agree on it, but I feel that it would be good for the community (on both sides) to read.
You're right, Raa (Greg) isn't that bad. He was a horrible website owner, and the site started to die as soon as he bought it last February. He sucked at taking care of people working (volunteering) for him, and he was uncaring about the site's needs as well. Like you said, he was uninterested and busy - that is all true.
******** he isn't. He hired S_S to do that!
I think his point was that yes he was a horrible owner and lead to mtgnews death, I thinl he is saying the person is not that bad. Nad on a perosnal level I do not know him so I must agree. Also you never got back to me about unblocking me R_E.
damnit... im so confused. Is Raa good or bad? we all know hes a ****ty site runner, but did he know what S_S was going to do? I'm not standing up for him, but just remember hes not the mastermind of this BS. Thats what S_S is for.
If vB allows admins to view passwords then the software is seriously flawed. He probably just changed the password, I doubt he actually HAS the old one.
I find train wrecks fascinating.
Vbulletin does indeed allow admins to read passwords. Even if it didn't, there are ways to read the database bypassing vbulletin entirely - PHPMyAdmin for one.
Word of caution - Private Messages aren't. The admins of any site can access your PM box at any time should they feel inclined to do so and sort through the proverbial haystack to find the needle.

Actually, vB does NOT allow admins to read passwords. You can set a new one, you can't see it. The passwords are stored hashed with via MD5 in the database, so the only way to read them is modify the software such that the passwords after a successful login are stored immediately. However, it's impossible to get the passwords out of the database in any form that would be useful for any other website since vBulletin 3 also adds a "salt" to the MD5 hashes which makes them unique. This was possible only in some very old versions of the vB software prior to version 2. I'm quite sure about this.

Correct - just checked. RC4 I could see passwords, now I can't. Must have changed within one of the 6 revisions.
Just wondering, rancored_elf what was it that started all of this between you and S_S? Not sure if I should be asking that but I really haven't read why this happened. Maybe I missed it or something. Thanx.
And by the way I think that it is way messed up of what S_S did to you.

I recommend reading up on it. I'm sorry, but I can't retype the story every time someone else shows up.
Anyway, your question is flawed. Nothing started all of this between S_S and I. Half of the moderators and all the admins resigned from MTGnews because the owner Raa and S_S lied, and broke all their promises to us and the members of the site. Asking didn't work. Telling was met with silence. Demands were put off. Ultimatums were ignored. Only action provoked action.
Please read up, and if you still have questions, message me privately.

Oh well - it's better that way.
