Well since this is all over, almost. I decided to dedicate this thread to some of the members who left/spoke out on MTG News to better our site and theres.
Heres to you, everyone. We all derserve a big slap on the back. We also derserve a big kick in butt for not moving on.
Well here we go:
Long time member of MTGNEWS but infrequently making posts. But I visit at least a couple times a week. I am speaking for those like me, who have few actual posts but contribute in these ways.
- providing many hits to the front page, spoiler, and forum pages
- generate money by viewing and following up on advertisements provided
- reading and commenting on the front page (www.mtgnews.com)
- doing the unspeakable, yes, I bought cards and supported the dark enterprise of networking evil sites (shuffleandcut, pojo, findmagiccards)
I have been more and more uspet with how the site was managed since march or april whatever, when "RAA" bought it from the previous owner. It became a horrible business with no function, only ads. The services like USG were stripped off and sold to other sights. Good well known members (yes, I consider myself to know them even if I never posted directly to them because I read everything they said!) said goodbye as they could not stand it here. Quality of posts whent down. People got angry and sad here. Owner and Subterean Spirit (the business manager?) never available except to make announcments like "so and so is not a moderator anymore because he is a bad person" or something. The site went down hard but I tried to contribute in my way. Thousands like me are not outspoken but help the site other ways. It doesnt mean we are not useful members in fact we are just as useful as we provide revenue to the site which is what keeps it running.
For that reason I leave. I have started viewing the forum at MTG Salvation (no this is not advertising, mods!) I dont know if I will make an account there, maybe maybe not. But I will provide them with hits, support them in any way I can, and enjoy the spoiler which is being built. This is how I, and many thousands also, support the community. We maybe dont post or make a big deal that we are here, but we are. And now we go.Qrt Apes
I doubt anyone will really recognize me here, as I've always been more of a lurker than a regular poster.
I just wanted to say that I've followed the last few days' events (both sides of the story), and I'm just disgusted. I have emailed this site and asked for my account to be cancelled.
I'm sure no one will particularly miss me here, but I wonder if the owners will miss the support that I might otherwise have lent by purchasing cards, supplies, etc. from this site's advertisers.
This will be the last you hear from me (and was probably the first).

Well, I never thought this day would come, but I'll be gone as well. I've been here since 2001, but I lurked for a year and didn't open an account until '02. I haven't posted much since the New Year's fiasco, mainly because I'm afraid that whatever I say I will get banned for. Therefore, I'll be going to you know where for awhile until things settle down(which, at the rate they're going now, won't happen for a long time). I'd like to thank everyone I've met here(even though most of them have been banned for "evading the censor"). As much as I love this place, it isn't the same as it used to be, with the admins just walking around with banhammers hanging over their backs, ready to strike down any poster they like for whatever they believe shouldn't be said.
Now, I won't be gone completely. I'll just stick around in my clan thread and in the Market Place forums, but other than that, I won't be doing any more posting(at least, I don't think I will).

In truth I haven't posted on the forums since New Year's, but I wanted a chance to speak my mind before I left for good.
I've been at MTGNews for three years. I first came for the humor forum of all things, but I soon gravitated to Outside Magic and the Card/Set creation. There were several factors that made me pick this forum over any other, including a sense of community, intelligent posters, and places in the site for everyone. I also liked the fairness and order of the forums, and I trusted in the moderators to keep this a place a good community.
The community is gone.
Rancored_Elf, no matter what Subterranean Spirit has says, has always been a personable, friendly, and honest in his dealings both with the forum and with the clan that I was also a part of. When he left the site I knew this place was finished, that the forums could not survive without him. MTGNews is first and foremost a Rumor gathering site, and without the presence of Rancored Elf our ability to get exclusive rumors would (and is) failing. His departure triggered an exodus of many of the people I respect or like most in the forum, people who had made this community what it is today. I left also, not because I have some irrational hatred of SS or some hero worship of RE, but because I realized the community here was gone.
Subterranean Spirit's actions in the last week have proven time and again that RE assessment of him was correct. He has lied to the forum in his front page article's, claiming he "found" RE's cards, and that the senior Administration had defected in a "childish and immature" way. He has acted extraordinarly pettily by editing people's posts to remove any refference to the workings of his "enemy." His posts have been angry, belligerent, and accusatory.
He has set himself up as a petty dictator, too jealous of his own power to realize how weak he truly is.
This is my parting shut, my coup de grace, and I bid you all farewell.

This is only a few of the hundreds that left for good. I being one of them, you being one of them possibly. This also goes out to the innocent people out, war brings casulties, to the fighting and others. So I say to all those brave "soldiers" out there, thanks.
I'm sure over 100 people were permantly banned for speaking out and using Salvation as a refuge from S_S's madness to you I give you my respect. To those who attempted to post the truth, you gain my respect and tons more.
To R_E you are the general of the troops and have earned the respect of people on Salvation as well as 'News, I ask you to stay here, but you have your own brain and will support who you prefer.

R_E is not our general, that kind of mentality goes bad places, and not the war one either. R_E is a member, I am a member, you are a member, the mods are members, we are all members. We all speak for ourselves, and we agree and disagree like everyone else. We've seen what happens when a sheep thinks he can lead the herd, and that was S_S. There is no signle beacon that guides us, so light that illumates our path. We are different people who happen to be on the same course. May we only hoe that the pillars of our community remain with us, not to guide us, but to help us along as we walk.
You posted the words of people who wanted to be out, and they are. They walked away, just as easily as they walked in, as all of us will do, some of us in different ways, but all of us will, eventually. Sometimes we have fights, somtimes we hste each other, but in the end, we're all a community. I wish some could see that.
It's taken a lot to get where we are, and it may take a lot to continue, but the only thing that ties us together, and the only thing that ever will, is the fact that we choose to walk together. No more, no less, we are where we are because we are who we are, be we liars and pretenders or true to ourself, we remain bound only by choice. That chice was proven and strengthened by the events of the last seven days, and we should not forget that, nor should we wallow in it, for it is not a defeat, nor a victory, it is a loss. And that is all it will ever be. So move on, folks. There is nothing to see here but stricken warriors, and it was their choices theat led them down this path, and who are we to mourn the choices of others?

Well, I don't like to think of myself as a leader of any kind of "war". Like Plastik said, I'm a member. MTGnews was there before I became ... whatever I became. And they'll be there after. The real reason people left isn't because Salvation is super-cool-amazing and they just had to be here. It's not because I resigned. It's not because of a "war". It's because the site was bought and run by two people who didn't know how to do so. They ruined it from the top down. It's gone. But this was not a war.
Some of the posts were interesting to read, though. Most I had seen already, but they're cool to see back to back.
I think that there will be a branding by mtgnews.com leaders (the more immature or vengeful ones) as to blame for why Salvation came into existance. I hate to say it, but the original people who founded this site will have to assume a leadership position at some point, not for war, but for principle.
I think now is the time to heal some of the pains of the past week. I think that wound be best for 'News and 'Salvation. In the end Raa did the right thing...better late than never. I hope someday the 2 shall be one again.

It's far too hurtful to treat this as a war. People left 'News because of the way it was being run, and they joined/founded Salvation as an alternative to that.
While I like the concept of community, we will certainly need admins, mods, etc. to keep things running smoothly. If that's what folks mean by "leadership," then I think the beginnings of that are already in place. If you're looking for forum "leadership" in the sense of strong, active members who look after their own community, then that can and should be all of us.
Mods/admins: if you need any help with this site, email me. I don't know what you need, or what skills I can lend you, but I'm willing to help however I can. Again, email me if you want a hand, and perhaps I have something of value to offer.

You're confusing "left MTGnews" with "joined MTGsalvation". I said that many people left MTGnews not because of me, but because "the site was bought and run by two people who didn't know how to do so" who "ruined it from the top down". Sure, many people joined here because I did, but I'm not the reason they left MTGnews.
I hadn't even heard of MTGsalvation until after I resigned from MTGnews. I had no intention of joining a forum anywhere.
That actually stands to reason RE, not to argue. I'm sure that a good deal of the people who left News did so because you did.
Better than beating a dead horse. Aside from that when the forums were on retetched we already had several hundred people before R_E even joined. While R_E's joining may have helped most of the people here have joined because they liked what we're doing with the website since, you know, we're actually getting what we say we are and the guy sponsoring us is helping, rather than us enduring an endless route of disappointment and no results. We also don't have the shadow of an owner hanging over us who hasn't done hardly anything for the website and who because of won't beable to get anything done. I've tried being nice long as I can but I'm getting tired of people from MTGnews popping up over here trying to win an uphill battle in the form of an argument due to their discontent with the way things are. You're like a bunch of broken records with a bad song playing, and it's quite annoying.

Well, i do believe that many people left because R_E left,, but only because we all knew that SS and Raa had been hampering the site rather than helping it, and R_E and the other admins and mods would only leave if they had good reason to do so. So we left for both reasons basically, it just took the resignation of most of the site leaders to make us realize what was really happening.

Gato's right - some people left because I quit. I never meant to say that nobody did that. While I like the concept of community, we will certainly need admins, mods, etc. to keep things running smoothly. If that's what folks mean by "leadership," then I think the beginnings of that are already in place. If you're looking for forum "leadership" in the sense of strong, active members who look after their own community, then that can and should be all of us.
Mods/admins: if you need any help with this site, email me. I don't know what you need, or what skills I can lend you, but I'm willing to help however I can. Again, email me if you want a hand, and perhaps I have something of value to offer.

You're confusing "left MTGnews" with "joined MTGsalvation". I said that many people left MTGnews not because of me, but because "the site was bought and run by two people who didn't know how to do so" who "ruined it from the top down". Sure, many people joined here because I did, but I'm not the reason they left MTGnews.
I hadn't even heard of MTGsalvation until after I resigned from MTGnews. I had no intention of joining a forum anywhere.
Better than beating a dead horse. Aside from that when the forums were on retetched we already had several hundred people before R_E even joined. While R_E's joining may have helped most of the people here have joined because they liked what we're doing with the website since, you know, we're actually getting what we say we are and the guy sponsoring us is helping, rather than us enduring an endless route of disappointment and no results. We also don't have the shadow of an owner hanging over us who hasn't done hardly anything for the website and who because of won't beable to get anything done. I've tried being nice long as I can but I'm getting tired of people from MTGnews popping up over here trying to win an uphill battle in the form of an argument due to their discontent with the way things are. You're like a bunch of broken records with a bad song playing, and it's quite annoying.
