After getting some sleep and actually being able to take time to think about things without getting swamped with instant messages and PMs, I'd like to apologize for a couple of things.
First off, I apologize for now taking a better stance on things between here and MTGnews, such as spammers and everything else. I'm ready as well to take the stance of punishing and banning any members who go there and cause and spam. As has been pointed out, this looks bad upon MTG Salvation, and I believe someone said that it makes ues look like "raving lunatics." (although I wouldn't go that far...)
Another thing I'd like to apologize for is for not being more of a hypocrite at times than an admin. I truly do want this website to ascend beyond anything we've ever had before. Not for the sake of competition, no, for the sake of the community and making sure we really do get news and info and be ahead of the game. We've got alot to work on, and things are really, really hectic as all of this has happened in a week's time. I don't want this website to have a dark cloud hovering over it and tensions to always be high because of things between those here and those still at MTGnews.
Also to anyone that's concerned about the mod staff. After being able to take some time to think about it, there will be a few cuts, and a few replacments later. This may upset the people that are getting de-modded, but unfortunately the reflection they can make on website and staff is just as important as the clean slate and the past.
I'm not going to beable to spend alot of time on here tonight, but as always for the most part we have an excellent staff to watch things, most of them more than capable of taking care of things in my absence. I will check back in off and on tonight but I have some things I need to take care of outside of this website, as the last four and a half days have pretty much been this and I've neglected some things in my personal life that needs taking care of. So until then, my friends (and hopefully not too many foes ;))
How are we supposed to prove that the spammer is indeed the same person from this community? There is no practical way to determine that except for the screen name. That is one of the most easily faked things in the history of the internet. Before you say "IP" or "hostmask", let me remind you that using a proxy is simple enough, and by doing so you could easily change your IP address to something totally unrelated, or even worse, you could change your IP to something similar to another member in an attempt to get in trouble. Not to mention this all rests on having S_S provide us with correct IP information. There is no way to determine what he's saying is true, and he has obviously got a large amount of motivation to lie to us. We cannot prove who is who on the internet, and henceforth, banning people for things that they may or may not have done on another message board is bad policy.
I agree, spamming MTGnews in the name of MTG Salvation is wrong, immoral, and should not be done. However, we do not condone it, and we actively say you shouldn't do it. We cannot take responsibility for people who are breaking your rules and our rules, because we are not that person. The only person who should take responsibility for breaking a rule is the person who broke the rule, and I see no reason why your ban-happy admin cannot ban someone who is spamming as well. It's happening on his forum, so he should be the one to administer a punishment. At least banning someone for spamming is a ban I can agree with, and if all he was doing was banning spammers, then I would consider him to be responding more correctly.
Yes I agree. I was going to spam MTGnews, but then realised they could just say , "see, Salvation is just a bunch of spammers" and decided not to. I don't want to cause trouble there, I just want to have this site known.
It was a good post and I think it's right to ban people that have spammed other sites HOWEVER, I'd ask 100% certainty on that fact. If we start banning people left and right, we "lower ourselves to his level".
Anyway, it's good that things were said that make us less conflictual w/ MTGnews.

You and I are on the same page as most of the rest of the staff.
We agree we can't ban people left and right and we will only ban those that we are completely sure of. (ie. they posted saying they made such threads)
Another thing to consider in my opinion is that those who posted those threads in the first day (before we knew the situation entirely) be exempt or have reduced sentencing, but not those who have done it in the last day or so.

Right. I apologise if it seemed my stance appeared to be otherwise as I intended to say (but merely eluded to) that <can't remember name> in the response I just gave a bit before where I went off on people for spamming "OMG! STOP TEH SPAMM- GIEV PAEC A CHANC#E!1".
Quite frankly, if they're going around saying "LOL, I SURE SHOWED THEM!", they deserve a boot right then and there. Heck, I even said such in my 1st post on the optix Salvation (a response to a user asserting that he had 'messed' w/ SS on AIM: "LOL!!!!!!!!111 DID U BLOK HIM AND THEN WARN HIM TOOO!>!>>!/1/?~!?"). If we cut down on the people who are going out of their way to mess up both of our communities, it's safe to say our community should be a better place.
Yes, i would like to let the people of mtgnews no exactly what is happening over there, and at some time im sure everyone over there will no, but not even we know exactly what is happening, SS may be sneaking into R_E's account, and he may not be. When we know everything perhaps we should inform them, until then this seems to be the correct course of action.

Well said. Being an admin is a very unenviable task. Impartiality is a difficult thing to maintain, and humility is even more difficult in a position of power. For both of those, I give you bonus points on that post, TNK.
Many thanks, TNK. Open, honest, and mature admissions such as this are exactly what a community needs in order for it to trust its leadership.
I share Mystics concerns about safely handling the banning of folks who spam other sites, but I understand your decision. If you feel that you can manage those concerns appropriately and are willing to work with people in situations that warrant it (such as someone using another person's screen name), I'm willing to trust the judgement of your staff on these matters.

I suggest that either 'Gato or Cyan is entirely trustworthy. We still should give the member a 'day in court' - and remember that we have the whole warning/suspension thing (which is something MTGN seems to have lost easily - it's like it was before britain sent all us crazy-ass convicts to australia - 'oh, you stole a loaf of bread? Well, hanging for you, Bia0tch!')
Ah, good times. Anyway: Punishment yes, banning maybe not necessary.

Gamefaqs frequently bans people for this, and accurately. I am not entirely sure how they know who is invading, but they usually find out.
As for the rest, sounds good to me.

It really isn't a matter of "us" vs. "them" or who "wins". We're just people who like talking together on the same boards.
