I believe it is a site that is trying to rebuild what you have destroyed here. This isn't a group of rebels or spammers - this is a site with many of the finest members that you've had (not all, but many). Of course it does have its spammers and flamers - but every site does.
R_E's leaving is not what triggered the mass exodus to this new site. It was your actions following his departure. I would not have gone if it weren't for your actions. MANY would not have gone if it weren't for your actions. You caused this.

Except that I believe you crossed the line. You began banning people who were following preestablished rules - rules that you decided to change on a whim and without telling anyone. Sure, you unbanned many of the people who had links in their sig (which is one of the things that was never against our rules), but the damage was already done.

Again, he is doing what he is because he is trying to save the Community. If you haven't figured it out, 'News is simply a url. It is the community that actually matters. That is why the site has about 1,200 registered members in only a few days.
Is this hurting your "business" as you like to call this place? Not really. You did that yourself. The people who have left this site probably wouldn't have stayed, or at the very least felt the same way about the community and interacted with it the way they did. The community would have slowly died.
The only logical action was to try and gather it into a place where we could become a community again, and TNK did that. If he hadn't started it, someone else would have. If that site shuts down tomorrow, another one will replace it.
The simple fact is that your actions forced a great deal of people to find another place to go. Banning people isn't the best way to get people to stay.

You're right - this is a forum. A forum is where people gather to discuss and talk to one another. When you start telling people what they can and cannot say, with obvious exceptions, in a place where they specifically gather to talk, it will never last.
As I said, there are obvious exceptions. Flames, cussing, etc, shouldnt be allowed in a place that hosts many of the younger generations. However, you have gone way beyond that point - and many of us will not tolerate it.
If you had remained cool headed, this would never have become what it was. If you had not deleted so many threads, posts, and front page comments that weren't breaking any rules this would not have happened the way it has.
You chose to cross the line, and here are your consequences. Yes, even your actions, one of the owner/runners of this site has consequences. Especially because of your position.

Very good points made and I really don't see any gaping-logic holes (which I love to pick at). I'd also add that many of his users were actually there for Elf too because he's the one who basically built up the community, particularly the Rumor Mill, but that'd make the arguement slightly weaker in his eyes.
Seds: Did you hear that? You're online at News... This is a bad day, a very bad day... What lies on the horizon may be inescapable for Scott and the community. One thing is for sure, though -- if the community survives, it will be stronger.
