Ok,
I know most people will hate this thread, but I'm sorry!:p I hear how people want to get away from MTG News, and become their OWN community. This forum isn't getting rid of MTG News, its still there, people are still going, S_S is still getting what he wants.
If you haven't noticed MOTL or WIZARDS don't do this, they are nice forums. Please ya'll let the past the be past.
If this forum is ever going to become a forum then it needs to let go of MTG News.
I dunno about ya'll but this will be the only thread I post in the MTGNEWS Discussion forum.
If you hadn't noticed, other forums were created out of boredom. This was created out of necessity. This idea has been brought up before. This forum is a necesary part of the healing process. A lot of people are dealing with a big loss here and we should let them heal properly. And I've said it before and I'll say it again: That is the purpose of this forum. If you don't like it, stay out.

This site is NOT about making a new community. It's about housing an existing one. This forum is necessary I believe. I was confused when it was deleted. It should definatly be here.

Well, seems like spoiler chains(And with them my old sig) have been broken by The Man.
The Man is a Jackass and apparently he is also a Communist.

This place is saying, I will tell you. Firstly, most of the Staff wants it here, secondly, it is a big topic, which would just be posted on elsewhere anyway, and thirdly, it'll be closed and archived as soon as the whole thing cools down.

Sing lustily and with good courage.
Be aware of singing as if you were half dead,
or half asleep:
but lift your voice with strength.
Be no more afraid of your voice now,
nor more ashamed of its being heard,
than when you sang the songs of Satan.
yea, if not then "most" or "some" people would just be talking about 'news every where else on the boards. Like sort of what happened over at 'news. So this sort of gives them a place to talk about; what happened, and who all is still over there, lots of things. I mean a lot of people are still over there and still want to talk about what is going on.
And as said, it will be closed some time anyway...so whatever.

The way I see it, as long as this forum is around, it keeps everyone's personal feelings about News and SS from interfering elsewhere, adn eventually, everyone will tiree of the topic, and then, this forum will close.
I'll say that the forum is neccesary for some time to come, while everyone is coming to grips with the harsh events at mtgnews, but at some point in the future, the subject will be uneeded, and this forum will ride off into the sunset, although that sounds kinda wierd.
This isn't just a new forum to house MTG News folk. I hail primarily from MiseTings, and I'd like to call this a home-away-from-home where we can all meet in harmony.
Keeper: What, do you think we all *don't* want that? Do you think we want to have to be here, rather than there?
I *want* to be at MTGNews, where I should be.
But I also want an admin/manager who doesn't act like a child when people disagree with him. I want the staff not to live in fear that saying something even slightly out of line will get them suspended by a petty individual. I want people to implement hacks, and actually listen to what people want.
I want lots of things, and I fear I will get more of them here. Your reality may vary.
Anyway, guys: It's been less than I week. I fear we may have stuff to talk about for a week or two longer at least, no?

There, see? It's multipurpose.
It's also sort of a proving ground where banned nutjobs (like me) can come back into the community.
And this forum and MTGNews are equals. Whichever one is better is the one we will flock to.
EDIT: Verbal: At least another week. The story will be hot at least until then. And I think we may see it unarchived later if items come up that are significant.

- people don't know what happened... they're showing up and asking why News is dying, and why this place is here... this forum provides information
- people are not "over it" yet, and need somewhere to read and post about it... if this wasn't here, those kind of posts would be all over the forums!
- I get asked about twice a minute on AIM "what happened... I'm so confused, what is Salvation and what happened at News?"..... if I have to refer those people to Misetings to get their info, that'd suck
- News (S_S in particular) is censoring people and not letting them talk about this huge injury in the community. If we do the same, we're just as bad. This needs to be a time of healing.
I say we avoid flaming people, including S_S, and use this forum as a chance to heal, and let people know the truth. When it's not needed anymore, posts will die down, and that'll be the signal to close the forum and put it into the archives.
Efforts are underway to get all the posts from this forum back (they were accidentally deleted during the move).
Very true, I hadn't been online for maybe 1 month+ so I had no idea what the heck was going on. Luckly I found a link to this site in someone's sig at New's, thank heaven!

Can anyone repost my 2-3 posts responding to Rabit and that other guy on the old forums? I think I summarized why M Shumate and other people posting to his air are quite ignorant in them.
R_E: is it true that now your Email address at News directs to an inbox S_S controls?
Not exactly. I think he changed the address to his, then told News to "send this user his password by email", then logged in as me, changed my password, and then changed my email back to mine.
I can't log in - password doesn't work. Apparently I'm not banned, but I can't log in, change my settings, etc.
I've changed all my passwords that were shared with MTGnews, since I think he has that password. ARrrrrrg.

I see dangerous things in the coming days. Very dangerous things. Items so catastropic that the law may have to get involved. Destroying a community as well as a forum is a joke at best, whereas identity theft is a crime, and a very big, very important, hot-button topic in the States right now. Yeah, it started out as a petty feud, but now his actions are starting to bother me.

Unless Subbie posts as Rancored Elf somwhere, I don't see how its identity theft. Sure, it's sorta childish to keep him from the account if he isn't banned, but if he's not actively posting things claiming to be who he isn't, it's not even clsoe to illegal, from my point of view.

GENERATION 7: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the generation. social experiment.
Still, the potential is there. And, he's denying R_E the ability to use his account, for whatever reason. I don't know, but that seems sort of illegal.

Thats disqusting.... my sympathies Elf, and god child put it, that is probably illegal on some level. I dont know whether or not you would do anything about it, but it may be worth look into.
It's a feature on most forum administrative panels. I generally use it to help people whose registration didn't quite go through as well as to help people who have somehow lost their password and cannot get it back because their e-mail is somehow not functional. The idea is that you change it to some simple word, like "trynow", and then let them log back in and change their password themselves. The administrator does not need your password to take over your account. That has always been true.
I don't see why he just doesn't disable rancored_elf's account instead, however. I always found that to be the easiest method of banning someone. Going through the effort to ban someone, disable their account, change their password, and do 5 other things to keep them away just seems stupid when it's already clear he's not coming back in the first place.
Of course, as we've already established, S_S is not logical in any way.

Broaden your mind. Posting on a forum isn't the only kind of identity theft. There's things like online banking, email accounts, chat programs, eBay... it's not just posting in forums.

I don't see how he could get away with it, though. We all know his name, location, and all of his personal information. It would be rather easy to file suit if he tried to use any of your identity for himself.
