306. i At the beginning of each player's turn, in addition to their proposal, that player may post an offer to play Scrabble via e-mail through www.Scrabulous.com. Any player interested may type /in in their post to accept the offer to play Scrabble. Then, the moderator compiles a numbered list of all who have responded within 24-hours of the original offer, rolls an n-sided die, where n is the number of player's having responded, and the player on the list corresponding to the die roll plays a game of Scrabble over E-mail with the player who proposed the game.
ii The winner of each game of Scrabble gains 10 points. The loser loses 8.
iii Player's may not stall a game of Scrabble to avoid losing. If a player does not take a turn within 24 hours of the previous player's turn without providing a reason for absence ahead of time, that player loses that game automatically.
If anyone feels any additional provisions are needed to get this to work, just say so and I'll probably add it in.
What?! Look at the initial post; he is dead. Deceased. Kaputt. Indefinitely horizontal. In mafia games, you see, people are occasionally "killed off," and when that sad event occurs, he or she is no longer allowed to post, on account of rigor mortis and what-have-you.
'Welcome to Mafia Salvation', it said, 'Population: 3,660.' And someone, they never figured out who, had painted on the sign in red letters: '1,831 to lynch.'
I dislike points being based on something where you can cheat :/
I'm not saying people will, but there are plenty of websites that will allow you to maximize your points with your given set of letters. I know quite a few people who play scrabble online and use words they've never heard of because the official scrabble website told them they were legal.
mmm... I don't mind the rule, but I don't think I would play. This one is missing something that I can't put my finger on. I'll ponder it awhile, and be back later.

That's an excellent point. I don't think I'm in favor of this proposal.
Not sure why this is being taken seriously. If people want to play Scrabble, they can go right ahead outside of this nomic. It bears little relevance to this game. Outside factors shouldn't be rewarded with in-game bonuses. This game is about your skill at crafting proposals and persuasive writing, not Scrabble.
I'm against. I encourage you to remain true to the purpose of this game.

Something was missing, and it was this sentiment said very well by zindabad. I could see this being something that a board game themed nomic could implement, but not here. I'll wait to vote to see if anything changes, but I'm leaning hard to the no.

The moderator requests that the original proposal be amended to include a mechanism for verifying the outcome of a Scrabble game. Without a method for the moderator to verify the outcome of a game this rule cannot be enforced if passed.

I am no longer on MTGS staff, so please don't contact me asking me to do staff things. :|
While I have no problem with the concept of introducing outside influences into the game, this one seems unlikely to work well. I'll wait to see if Chimp can come up with a revised proposal to answer the concerns presented here already.

a) People can cheat easily.
b) It may take a long time.
c) I don't think one should win/lose points in one game, for playing a completely different one.
I personally hate the game of scrabble. I have never found it to be a fun experience. That said, even if this was another game that I don't dislike (like Nine Man Morris) I would vote no on it. I don't like the idea of giving people points based on stuff outside the game. Basically I equate the proposal as saying, "On a what will seem like a semi-random basis, people will gain or lose a certain number of points based on something outside of the game that nobody else can influence the outcome for". That's not to mention the other issues like the mod needing a way to conferm outcomes of the game or how easy it would be for someone to perhaps boost the points of a friend by playing them on both of their turns and losing both times. Time it right and suddenly you have a nice 20 point boost that nobody sees coming.
This is against my better judgment. This isn't supposed to be a game-in-a-game, regardless of possible favorable outcomes. I'm voting no, regardless how it gets amended. No offense, but I don't think we all have time to play Scrabble, let alone visit the Nomic every so often (as is proven by the people who miss these votes).
Not in favor. Sorry. Scrabble = cool, this amendment !=...
Why not? At some point we're going to have to introduce ideas to the game that are not within total control of the majority, or else no one will ever win. A game within a game is as good as any other way to do that, and it can hardly be said that Scrabble is especially time-consuming.
Not that I'm in favor of Scrabble, but that has more to do with logistics than with whether or not the concept is good for the game.

Correction, cp, I meant not like an extended game. Scrabble takes time. Something like a game of rock-paper-scissors clearly takes a set of PMs and is a one-shot deal. That I wouldn't mind...
I guess I was rather vague in my definitions of "game-in-a-game"...
Well, unlike quite a few other people, I like the idea of having games in games, playing scrabble, etc, even for points. However I don't see how the execution will work, especially keeping the game fair.

Also, I would agree with this sentiment, although I think the limit could be upped to 2-3 games per person.

2 or 3 would seem fair also, I just think there would need to be some limit.
EBWOEMP: In either case, I'd still lean no here; I don't think this idea will turn out as good as it sounds.
