I was thinking about Kithkins for a while now, pondering if it's even any good in Extended at the moment. I just wanted to know what you guys think about a Kithkins deck.
For example of a deck, I was thinking of running this:
Kithkin certainly has potential. However, you have to ask yourself what it does better than other aggro decks. Does it generate better card advantage? Can it slow down combo decks like Elves!? Is it fast enough or disruptive enough to take on the temperered steel aggro decks? For that list, you're most certainly going to want more lands...standard kithkin used to run around 25 or 26, including rustic clachan and 4 windbrisk heights, even especially the hideaway. I would really have a good look at the old lists and see if it's good enough!
My friend runs Kithkin-merfolk which actually runs rather decent. I seem to recal Sejiri Merfolk being annoying, though I don't really know the list. I can try to get it for you if you want.
but that's not something that's in any way unique to Kithkin. that super-aggressive WW extended list already does dumb ☺☺☺☺ like that.
when you can have the same effect as T1 Stalwart -> T2 Cenn in T1 Student -> T2 Level, the difference comes down to whether you want a more swarmish type deck (i.e. full on kithkin) or one that simply plays one or two solid threats and gets there with those threats, using the tokens to pop things like Windbrisk (i.e. the current WW deck with Steppe Lynx and Student).
the important question to ask is, is Kithkin going to just wind up being a bad WW Aggro variant or is it going to be significantly different in some way, because if the answer is the former then you might as well just be running that instead.
Take your monoblack deck, then set aside 14 swamps. Add 4 Creeping Tar Pits, 4 Darkslick Shores, 4 Drowned Catacombs, and 2 Jwar isle Refuge and add 4 Jace, the Mindsculptors. Your monoblack deck is instantly better. Better yet, drop those refuges, throw in some islands and some mana leaks, and lo and behold, you're now playing a real deck. Congratulations. Welcome to the world of competitive M:TG.
