Are there any big Extended events with TSP left at least? I want to give my Restore Balance deck that I just bought in full at least one go-round.
Wait, I can't even use my playset of FNM Prisons I just bought.
I'm very disappointed in Wizards' decision. Hopefully they make a new format going back farther than this but I doubt it. The only saving grace will be to add Legacy as a PTQ format, cause I sure as hell am not going to tournaments to see Faeries mirrors all day again.
um yeah. i understand how the combo works. i was asking how is hypergenesis (the deck not the card) warping extended.
It's an easily abuse-able combo, really. If you can get Spirit guides with a land cascading into hypergenesis, with akroma's memorial and a couple of creatures, you just won. It's not as widely played, but is very easy to break.
Perhaps it wasn't format warping, but with the rotation of three blocks, Hypergenesis would be one of the few remaining decks, and would probably be propelled to one of the dominant decks.
Good lord, this is gonna be quite an interesting format shift.

How many of you are real competitive extended players? cause I do not believe that any of the people posting in the competitive testing threads would speak highly of this at all.

Bah. I was going to play Hypergenesis next Extended season to take advantage of the Eldrazi and to play Elephant Dude. I could play Jund I suppose. Its better than Faeries and is prolly faster than 5CC. Its funny that I never thought I'd miss Kamigawa when it rotated. That TSP is rotating in the fall kinda sucks. Its probably my favorite block of all time.
I never thought Wizards could do something that would make me hate Magic, but there they go, doing the last thing you expected.
I never played Standard due to the low card selection, so they are now forcing it on me? What reasoning do they have with this? Most players liked the ability to pick up cards that weren't good when they came out, and finding a new use with them. That was fun. But they removed that. They removed the one thing that made Extended fun.

Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.
So this is pretty much the current and last major Standard in some unholy marriage? Doesn't this just mean we'll see the same boring meta evolve, just with better cards in slots?
I'm not so sure about scapeshift being a good deck. Without duals, you have to play firmly RG Scapeshift, which is much worse proposition without sweet aggro cards like goyf and jitte.
@Yamikiri- I absolutely agree. That was exactly what made extended what extended was. There were intense card interactions tempo and card choices to consider in order to best good decks...If all wizards cares about is new players and the money then Draft is the only format worth pushing, and in the still-faultering economy all the people playing extended and legacy were most of the people bringing new players into the game with "watch this amazing card play Im about to make" among friends. Piss off the older players and you wont have anyone pushing many of the newer players to get better cards and play better.

as a player that was one step from breaking into the extended format I'm extremely upset with this decision. the deck i built has a lot of cards in the new extended, but the loss of several key cards destroys its consistency. this change will anger more players than it will please imo
welp, looks like I don't need to worry about getting goyf's to play Bant O.O this is a huge surprise. I hope to see some new format, this might be interesting though...

Wow, I'm curious how this will affect decks manabases. Without shocks decks are going to have to work a little harder to get what they need. I'm curious about how this affect the popularity of extended because the pool of cards is getting slashed, but almost all of the pricy staples are gone (oh hey their goyf). Seems like the Fae will be staging a come back.
I feel so bad for this format... It was the worst of the formats and now it's lorwyn T2... HAH wish i still had my faeries deck because it's the only playable deck in the format. They are so bad at this HAHAHA.

Wait...so it's going to be Lorwyn-M11-Scars ? That's terrible. Almost all of the decks will be midrange which is why I have come to hate standard so much since Lorwyn came out. The format is either play faeries, 5CC or some midrange decks.
After playing standard forever and finally just getting extremely bored with it, I decided to recently sell a lot of my standard cards and break into extended. I was just starting to really enjoy all of the possibilites and interactions I once loved from previous standards when this COMPLETE CRAP happens.
This is extremely dissapointing, especially now that time spiral block (my only glimmer of hope) will be rotating when scars comes out. I really hope that they create this rumored format because I have no idea what the he'll they were thinking!
I was playing a draft match, and I had a Serra Angel out. I went to swing with it, and by accident made the motion to tap it. The other player untapped it and said:
"I know you want to tap that, but she's a respectable gal with vigilance."

And yes sadly when I thought at least TSP + LOR/SHA could nurse me wounds at playing a fun deck, it was or will be taken from me by SoM, not that is bad if SoM has great stuff to play with, but yeah you all get the point.
EDIT: The act is probably to get more people into the Overextneded format.

The over-extended format will probably be announced soon enough and that will spark a likely resurgence amongst the player base.
Wizards can sanction this new format, host PTQs, etc.. in order to fuel interest.
Then, won't you be glad that you didn't sell off those Dark Depths?
