Note: The four cards previously on the banned list (Æther Vial, Disciple of the Vault, Sensei's Divining Top, and Skullclamp) are in sets that are no longer in the Extended format.

I can't wait for people to try to build a Hypergenesis deck without Hypergenesis. It always happens like with Affinity or 5CC. I'm not saying a lot of people will, but I know there will be some.
Very interesting to see. No Shocks, Jittes and more. So are we gonna see another explosion of Faeries dominating a format? Glad to see Sword go however, because the deck would just be too dominating.
They didn't want an auto go-to with the new format. Hypergenesis and Thopter-Sword would have been that. Waste of a ban IMO, they're rotating before it counts anyway
can somebody tell me what hypergenesis was doing that got it hit with the ban hammer?
Ever play with cards like Violent Outburst? It let's you play Hypergenesis for free, thus letting you put in massive amounts of big, game winning creatures.
Anyways, these changes are pretty huge! Well, I'm guessing now that it'll be Zoo and Cascadeshift reigning supreme for a while.
Ya, I was gonna say, Zoo loses Goyf by the time it's extended season again, I expect to see Fae, 5 color control, maybe some scapeshift attempts, however, the new extended really is just super standard once TSP block goes out. Atleast it would have been semi-different with TSP block still in
I have to say that I LOVE this. No Blood Moon effects AT ALL in Extended.
Any excuse to sleeve up the perfection that was Grixis Faeries. Counterspells, creatures, kill spells, sweep, card drawing, targeted discard, the Chuck Norris of decks.

Don't read anything LaPille. Your brain will thank you later. ----> VICTORY!
Question for mods, I know we aren't supposed to be talking about rotations, but how is that managed in this case, where they rotate before they even become competitive? are we still obligated to listen to people's "run goyf" comments when it won't even matter?
WIZARDS NEEDS TO STOP STABBING US IN THE BACK. I paid good money to keep up with this format and now it is all for nothing? To hell with this

um yeah. i understand how the combo works. i was asking how is hypergenesis (the deck not the card) warping extended.

I'm actually not too thrilled that red is losing all of its Blood Moons. Those were what actually gave red any sort of leverage against multicolored decks. I can stomach losing the rest of Time Spiral, but the loss of all 8 Blood Moons is a huge kick in the groin.
Then again, that's just the LD player talking inside of me lol.

It's not that. They banned Sword of the Meek and Hypergenesis because they're rotating soon, but they don't want players to fall back on these two decks which warp the new metagame simply by pre-existing. Nothing new will come up because why bother for three months.

I'll hold myself to this. I'll get fancy dishes and everything.
Extended
Sword of the Meek is banned.
Hypergenesis is banned.

Holy crap, that is huge. I expect shocklands to tank in price. Also two of the most powerful combos have lost key pieces.
I guess with the gutting of Extended they have to.

Either way, it means I will probably be able to pick up some shock lands relatively cheap.
Edit:
This
My H/W list
all the innovative cards have left the format; this is like standard on an extra 500 calories a day.
Bloodbraid Elf into Goyf seems pretty good.
Elf rock
5 cc
some kind of doran deck
some reveillark midrange deck
will be a fun format imo
At least until October
