I don't watch very much TV, but a friend told me about this upcoming show, and I must say, it intrigues me. I may actually watch it.
Does anything know anything about it that a google search wouldn't quickly reveal? I know that the pilot has been shown in a few places, what are your opinions if you've seen it?
Perhaps if the show is any good this can be the official discussion thread as well.
I saw the pilot a few weeks ago. It's pretty good. I wasn't as wowed by it as I was with, say, the Lost, Alias or Veronica Mars pilots, but it was better than crap. I'll certainly tune in when it airs.
Some of the characters are intriguing (Ali Larter's character in particular), but I did think several of the actors were weak. Though, to be fair, I often have that to say about actors in pilots, if only because it takes some time for most actors to grow into their characters. I'll reserve judgment until the season is really underway.
I'm interested in seeing where the plot goes from the end of the pilot (which I won't spoil here), though I'm doing so with reserved caution. High concept shows like this have a nasty habit of derailing fast. They simply can't sustain the concept under the weight of its own convolution. Witness shows like The X-Files, which eventually became a big mess caused by the show's ever-increasingly complex mythology. Clever writing and plotting out the mythology thoroughly in advance can certainly keep the show going, but in my experience, high concepts quickly become big messes. It remains to be seen whether this will happen with Heroes. I kinda hope not.
i haven't seen the pilot but i will definetly tune into the show because from what ive seen the way they give the Heroes there abilitys seems real as if me or you got those powers we'd act the same way

Well, the show's actually been on now, has anyone been watching?
Episode two was a lot more impressive than the pilot. The pilot was saddled with a lot of setup without a whole lot of follow through, but episode two was able to explore the Heroes world a bit more. And provided a lot of really interesting twists. The final bit with Hiro, especially.
I have to say, I'm really liking the way that the writers are exploring the individual powers. Some are fairly self-explanatory and others are really vague. Vague to the point where not even the characters really know what they can do. But these guys better get a move on in the mastering of their abilities, they only have five weeks before New York gets the bomb.
I've read that episode three ends with an even more impressive cliffhanger than episode two. That should be interesting.
I thought that the pilot, while not spectacular, was intriguing enough to watch more of the series. I was very impressed with the second episode, especially with what happened to Hiro at the end.
I liked that the characters were not as one dimensional as some of them appeared to be in the first episode. They are more than massive stereotypes, which I enjoy.
The antagonist, or whom we are lead to believe is the antagonist, is very interesting so far. He is not overtly spooky and evil, but more mysterious. Very curious to see what they are going to do with him.
Definitely interested in seeing where it goes from here.
This is, the third time that one of my inspirations has been realized through someone elses vision! The premise of this show, coincidentally is the plot of a web comic I have been musing over for the past year. I suppose I should stop being such a forum junkie and start un-procrastinating
I have been watching it ever since the teaser trailor was premered a few months ago. It is something that I would look forward to every week. I DVR it so I can skip through commercials. For those that havent watched it yet, wtf are u doing on monday nights. Watch it or at most record it.
Synopsis: Its about a group of idiviuals around the world who have discovered special abilities within themselves and find themselves destined to collide with an opposing evil.
Spoilers about Character and " some" plot thusfar. I am mainly using spoiler tags to keep it all together.
Right now I have some information but the ones that watch the show can forgive me for leaving out stuff and details. There is alot to cover about the show.
Main Characters
The Son of a Scientist - His character (I is the son of a scientist who was researching people who have developed special abilities within themselves and the dawn of a new evolution of man. The father was murdered in New York where the story unfolds that he was killed because of his research and his work was stolen. The son goes to New York and continues his fathers research and ends up in the position his father was in.
The 2 Brothers - One is a politician and the other is a nurse to the dying/ailing. The nurse comes in contact with another of the main characters, a precognitive artist in the first episode. The politician brother can fly and as far as I know the other brother seemingly can pick up and use other peoples abilities by either touching them or being around them.
The Indestructable Cheerleader - The girl from the beginning appeared to be suicidal and kept throwing herself off a high steel contruct She wanted to know what was happening to her because she didnt die. In the first episode she saves a man from a burning train yet she caught fire and wasnt burned. She is apparently the step daughter of the main antagonist of the show (without she knowing of course) and wants to find out about her real parents.
The Two Faced Single Mother - This one is a bit of a wild card to me. She seems to have this "shadow?" or "double nature" ability. She zones in and out of this second personality or something, not much is really known about it by the first two episodes. She is a single mom of an intelligent son trying to earn money to pay back the mob (whom apparently she owes money to). Soon enough the mob sends men to collect the money "any way possible" later she wakes up and finds them mutalated around her. In the second episode she goes off to pick up her sone and then "zones out" for 4 hours and comes back to find the "mess" cleaned up and there are clues strewn about to help her. Weird but cool.
The Time/Space Bender - He's a Japanese office worker (average joe) that discovers he can manipulate space/time. He tells his friend but he dosent belive him (naturally). And then tells him "I will teleport to New York". He does "teleport" but it was actually, as the second episode showed was time travel. He manipulated space time to put himself "5 weeks" in the future where apparently there is a nuclear explosion, after a small incident with the cops involving a dead body (with his head severed, eww), at that point he whisked himself back to 5 weeks prior when he first "teleported" to New York. Very cool.
The Psychic Cop (episode 2) - This guy is your average cop. Though hes tried out for the dective exam and got denied 3 times. During an investiagtion of a murdered family and a lost girl,he hears the voice of the lost little girl. He finds her underneath the stairs. He later finds out that only he heard the little girls voice. Detectives inquire how he knew where the girl was, he says stuff hes not supposed to (he basically heard the thoughts of the "detectives" and said things he couldnt possibly know about - dont know who they really are. Special investiagors probably) and he gets arrested. Very curious how this will end up.
The Precognitive Artist - He apparently has dreams which are what happens in the future and paints them. He painted the train wreck that happened and in a fit he painted the apparent nuclear explosion that the Time Bender witnessed. He painted a picture of the Nurse brother jumping. Problem is that hes a Heroine addict (man you gotta love those plot twists) and that its messing with his health.
The Mysterious Antagonist(s)? - Apparently there are multiple antagonists in this story. One is the creepy father of the indestructable girl who has some sort of watchfull eye on the son of the scientist (and apparently finds about his stepdaughters "gift"), plus you have this mysterious murderer who cuts peoples heads in half. Very Weird.
Thats all I have to offer in ways of the show in the first two episodes. I am sure more is to be revealed. As in the ways of plotline development for each character its difficult to compile.

I don't think Peter's (the hospice nurse who believed he could fly) ability is flying at all. I believe he's more like Synch, he copies the abilities of other superpowered people around him. First he copied Nathan's ability to fly, then he drew a picture of his future just like Isaac. He had contact with both men in the last 24 hours and within that time, displayed the superpowers of both.

I've yet to see the show. I'm upset at myself. I will watch it. Mike does it have your seal of approval?
I believe he drew the picture out of rememberance of the event prior not of the future. But I do enjoy entertaining the notion that he is a "copier" of abilities until the next few episodes. Because that would be awsome. Dont forget they are getting stronger now with thier skills.
Next episode the Timebender actually stops time on a broader scale or at least it is what is inferred in the preview

Milo Ventimiglia's being pushed as the unofficial leading man of the ensemble (he's not technically the star, but he's front and centre in all the promotional stuff and he's the biggest 'name' in the cast, though mostly by default), so I think he's about as safe as he can be. At least until the show feels a JJ Abrahms-esque need to start shocking the audience by killing off the cast for no reason.
I've yet to see the show. I'm upset at myself. I will watch it. Mike does it have your seal of approval?
It's the only new show that I watched and plan to continue watching. The plot is pretty fun, there's a lot of mystery (and the show seems as if it's going to actually solve them at some point), the characters aren't half bad and the cast is top-heavy with attractive people. Plus, it looks as though the show has a future. It's one of the highest-rated new shows, so it has very good chances of surviving at least until February.
Though I'm remaining decidedly cautious about it. I got burned real bad by Lost, which started out exactly like Heroes has for me. Leaked pilot with a decent hook, high-concept show with a large ensemble of hotties with interesing stories, various intriguing mysteries, cliffhangers, amazing starting run of the season. But then Lost fell off its rails and became what I consider to be one of the biggest trainwrecks of a series I've ever seen. Heroes seems to patterns itself after Lost to an alarming degree (obviously with a different plot, but there are many similarities), and I really don't want it to follow Lost in every regard.
But it's still way to early to call Heroes' future. We'e only two episodes in. And I'm definately willing to give it a chance.

Nope. I'll add a screencap once I find one, but what Peter drew is quite obviously depicting the scene at the end of the episode with Nathan admitting that they both flew and then pointing out Peter was hovering. The stick figure drawing has the ledge Peter was standing on, him hovering just off the ground, Nathan standing in front of him, the basics of the whole scene. It had nothing to do with his initial fall at the end of Genesis where Nathan saves him.
Yes, i never heard about it until i went to Sci-fi.com looking for information on Battlestar galactica and checking what show replaced SG:A during the 1 week gap.
SG:A stopped a week and a half ago, and heroes was shown the friday as a repeat.
Watched both episodes now, and i must admit, its a DAMN good show.
The single mother confused me greatly for a fair bit, as did the overall time frames. Cause due to what ive noticed and such, the brothers, and the Reality Sculpter have the same time frame.
Hiro is actually bouncing around. It just seems that there are parts of the roles bouncing around. That not everyone accepts the same time lines.
Btw, i <3 Hiro,. who seems to be taking the steps into Hero-hood faster then any of the other characters

As for the preview thing; I think they had to do that because of the pilot episode. I dont believe that will be a continuing thing, but they will in some way sum up what happened the week before.

Unfortunately, screencaps won't be available until at least tonight, but I'll post one as soon as I can get my grubby hands on it. Until then, I doodled an MSPaint copy of Peter's hospital bed drawing. It's from memory, but everything I remember is in there. Nathan's funny stick man tie, the ledge, Peter floating. It'll have to do until I can procure the real deal.
Thanks for the recreation of the drawing, try to get the screencap of it if you can. I have already changed my previous post made about it.
On Matt
Hes not a telepath. He can only read/hear thoughts so hes more in line with a psychic. Telepathy presumes he can speak through his mind which he cant, though that might be an indication that he will eventually?
On Isaac
The precog thing is his natural talent. He dosent need to be high to get that. At first I thought he took drugs to see the images but I realize it wasnt the case. He takes drugs because he sees these things in his dreams and thoughts and cannot cope with the stress and pain it brings him and tries to paint it out, I am assuming. And I dont know if hes really taking drugs or if infact its the ability itself causing him to act like that. We only saw what happend after he painted the picture not before or during.
My question is this if Peter has that ability and meets up with the others, does that mean what I think it means? And if so thats awsome.

Honestly, the three characters who hold the MOST interest for me Are:
The Single mom - Doppleganger: She has a VERY unusual ability, reminiscient of the green goblin KIND of. The thing is, what interaction will the Doppleganger have on her son? Also, Is her son also "gifted"? He does display amazing intelligence.
Cheerleader - Regenerator: Agian, interesting. This time not due to her powers, but due to her being the son of one of the protaganists, and OBVIOUSLY part of an evil government organization designed to use these people. How does she run into the others?
Lastly, Hiro - Time and Space Manipulation: The coolest and most likable character in the show really. He is actually a regular character who simply has indominitable will. He controls time not by any special genetic trait, but simply by Pure brute force of will. This power and willpower is likely fueled by an intense desire to be away from the tedium of office work, and the mediocrity of everyday japanese life. Shown in his argument after he teleported into the womens washroom.
Agian, appearantly, Hiro is in the same time line as the rest of the heroes, *at the end of ep 3* but can't use the teleportation without travelling forward in time yet. how does he meet the rest? Episode 2 provides a CLEAR link between him and the rest of the heroes. He will meet the Reality Sculptor Isaac due to what he drew, hopefully avert the event with Syler.
Anyone else here see any links between characters? Like, how they will meet and so forth?

There's been secondary links between a few of the stories (the one that sticks out in my mind is Hiro's friend being one of Niki's webcam voyeurs), but so far the only explicit meetings between any of the heroes has been through Peter, who has encountered both Nathan (obviously) and Isaac. Though I've read that a few other heroes cross paths in the coming episodes. But I don't think the plan is to bring them all together all at once, I think the writers want the mingling to a bit more natural.
Also, the new TVGuide supposedly has the answer to the question "What exactly is Peter's power?" And Ali Larter (Niki) has said that her character's abilities become a bit clearer by episode six. So at least we're not getting strung along when it comes to exactly what these people can do.
I, personally, love this show so far, Hiro being the nerd talkign about Kitty Pride and Days of Future Past, yea I marked out. I think the cheerleaders ADOPTED father(some one said stepfather. the mother isnt her real mom either) is the syler guy. The one who kills people and saws the top of there heads off and connected Hiro's to mind reading cop's stories. I think the cam girls 'power' is like the green hulk's, where When she's angry/scared/other primitive figh tor flight emotion, she goes into the other side.

Hiro roxxors!! Japanese people are so cute. Anyways...I'm still trying to figure out Nikki's powers. I'd say that the "other" Nikki takes over her body but that can't be. She cleaned the garage and stuffed the bodies of the mobsters while "real" Nikki was picking up her son. Its like Nikki is manipulating the world in the mirror to reflect what she wants it to be. She wanted the mobsters gone and suddenly they're all dead. She wanted the bodies taken care of and when she gets home there's a getaway car complete with map and shovel. Claire need therapy. Why is she trying to kill herself?

Edit: The Spoiler is subject to change.
