But in all seriousness, this movie could be pretty good. The plot from the game was great, and the special effects and such will make this movie an eye popper. I wonder if they're gonna change the genre up a bit and make it more of an action movie or more of a horror movie.
Well, since they recently announced Bioshock was coming to the PS3, I'll probably get to play it, and in turn get excited for the movie before it comes out.
Could be interesting seeing the clips of the game. I mark out if this is done like Shrek and the other good 3D movies. If done in life action well could be good, but not be as good as 3D and be another Sci Fi Original film.
Well, MOST video game movies are made for the fan base. And you'd be surprised how many there are out there for Bioshock. But according to the article (and others), Verbinski was attracted to the game's story and writing, not the fact that it's hyper-popular (see also: Halo movie)
Many of those on welfare in america just need the extra push to be someone, while helping starving Biafrin not starve just perpetuates another random life that can't do what somebody with a good US high-school education can. I'd rather help Joe Bloe get into college and do something with his life than help a starving Kenyan keep ****ing his wife and popping out starving babies that need more of our money.
I'm necro-ing this thread because it looks like the movie is in permanent development hell.
However, I found this article to be interesting. It's nice to see that the games creator wants to see a good film made from the game and not just some rushed together piece of junk (like 95% of video game based films). At least if we do one day get a Bioshock film there's a decent chance it will be something worth watching!
As someone who loved Bioshock 1 and enjoyed Bioshock 2 (long story short: both are very atmospheric, story is better in 1, gameplay was better in 2), I'd love to see a solid film that captured the bleak and oppressive atmosphere of Rapture.
Just have to keep looking forward to Bioshock Infinite for my next hit of dystopia.
Best case scenario: directed by Gullermo Del Toro and it's horror/scifi cross between forbidden planet and the shining... maybe starring Raphael Fiennes or some other great actor...
Worst case scenario: Uwe Boll director... An fps action/horror movie like a cross between DOOM and Alone in the Dark, starring Taylor Lautner.
Not a shock... no pun intended... this movie would be just so difficult to pull off and still make interesting for the people who actually played the game... or on the flip, completely alienate the audience that would help make it a hit film by making it too over the top and gore filled.
Looks like 2007's best FPS is getting a chance to dazzle on the big screen.
At least Uwe Boll isn't involved.
