I really enjoyed it so far. Some bugs here and there (Into The Mist, a Norn personal story quest, is broken for me :/ )
I dislike the personal story; after being in zones with so many people and zerg rushing dynamic events, that's all I ****ing want to do haha. It's so much fun going 30v1 against even the smallest boss.
Level 8 Norn Warrior after about 7 hours. This game is the tits.
We’ll be conducting a stress test on Monday May 14 from 11 AM to 6:00 PM PDT (-7 GMT).
Check their facebook if you are not convinced. Anyone who pre-purchased gets in
So how do people feel about, the BWE 2 changes?
I for one am ambivalent on tiered skills. On the one hand, spending skill points on stuff you'll never use is annoying, but on the other, it encourages you to try all the skills and not immediately go for a given set up.
The only other major change I noticed was how hard Mesmera got nerfed, which sucks 'cause they're an interesting class.

The tiered skill system (for the guardians) is frustrating, but mostly in regards to the elite skills. Tome of Courage is a tier 2 elite, which means you need 20 skill points to unlock the tier, and then 30 more skill points to buy the skill. The skill is absolutely necessary for dungeon crawling if you're a guardian - so it REALLY sucks to have to skill it out.
On the ascalonian catacombs dungeon *rant*;
WHAT THE **** ARENANET?
Why does everything oneshot me? I can understand that they want to get away from the tank'n'spank and holy trinity but as a guardian with heavy armor I would at least expect to live a little longer than that squishy elementalist - not have both of us get oneshotted by everything.
Bosses - One shot you by design - so you can't tank them.
Trash mobs - one shot you by bad balance (or design, not sure) - the elementalists should totally drop nuclear bombs on everyone and the rangers should totally instagib you with a spike trap that deals upwards of 7k damage every second.
Traps - One shot you because '**** the player' - make one wrong step and you die, not get downed, but straight up eat it.
I went into that dungeon with 3 gold, after two trips in exploration mode I left that dungeon with 1 gold. I spent that much on armor repairs - it's freaking BS. Unless those dungeons change, there's no way in hell I'm doing any more than the storyline requirements. It's that bad.

Even if the author is silenced, the performance is stopped, the story will not end.
Whether it's a comedy or a tragedy, if there is cheering, the story will continue on.
Just like the many lives.
For the us who are still in it and still in the journey, send warm blessings.
- We will continue to walk down this path until eternity.
I can't say I did the catacombs, but yeah, guardians are wwaaay to squishy. Hell, I saw Necros that could take more hits. Something's gotta be done here.

My experience with a guardian is that I can generally tank stuff indefinitely unless it hits like a truck or swarms like ants. The trick is to have lots of blocking and healing. Extra credit if you're with someone that has Daze/Stun/Confusion because those are essential in dungeons :S
Mace/shield with Shelter/"Hold the Line!"/"Stand Your Ground!"/"Retreat!"/Tome of Courage has so much defense you can last quite a long time by cycling them properly. I healed with the symbol of healing and passive regeration and blocking strikes/dropping heals as needed.
Dungeons, though, everything ignores the blocking. Even something that hits like a truck so that you CANT indefinitely tank it with blocking/healing ignores the blocking. The dichotomy between dungeon and pve/pvp survivability is astounding. Not even other PLAYERS can do that stuff to you :S

And August 25th is the date for prepurchasers! I can't contain my excitement for this game. Last beta weekend is July 20-22nd, and I think I'll stick to WvW for that one.
Gonna have to call off of work the week of the the 25th, time to drop outta life.
Bump.
I'm not going to be able to play seriously for a long [little? Weekend and a bit longer at least] while, but I've reserved my characters.
Game is live! [Login/server issues abound!] What do people think?

I'm really upset at the naming system. Not only are names global, but didn't they reserve names from GW1 as well?
I didn't get a single name that I wanted, and I was on as soon as the servers came up. And adding random words to my name isn't a viable option, either.

Names lose their reservations a week after launch. You may be pissed that you didn't get the name you wanted, but could you imagine the the rage from the guy that's played for six years only to find that his favorite character's name got stolen? I guarantee you that it would be at least ten times worse than any anger you have.
~~~
so I'm already level 25 in game. I've been grinding it out (lolwut?) on my human guardian. tons of fun
It's a different game. Said person is incredibly lucky that ANet even did name reservations.
Lucky as in, promised 5 years ago? GW: Eye of the North was released in 2007 and Arenanet promised name reservations when the game came out.
It was viewed as something extremely important to the community. Most of the players coming from the original guild wars are attached to their characters and Arenanet wanted to reward their customers for being active in the game and showing interest in GW2.
Really want to play this, but just don't have the available time for an online game at the moment. How's it going so far? A couple of my friends that are playing don't seem completely wow'd so far, but that could just be isolated to them.
The leveling is pretty standard MMO fare. It's less linear than WoW's, which is nice. Nothing too spectacular though; it's still a grind.
The PvP, however, is pretty awesome. The combat feels great. You can really tell that this is what the game was designed around.
This is my first true mmo and as a novice I am impressed and delighted. On the first couple days I was groaning a bit, thinking about how much of a time sink the game would be and how many systems I'd have to learn, but now that I've played a bit the game has become something that I am excited to play. My favorite aspect of the game is the vistas and jumping puzzles.
Coming off Diablo 3, I am very impressed by the magnitude of content in GW2. Trolls or fanboys on the D3 forums made the argument "What? You're complaining that you played 200 hours of a game that costs $60? And you want more? You've already got your money's worth." But with GW2, I can look at the map and tell that whatever x hundred hours I will end up playing, I'm actually going to have fun the entire time - something I could not say about Diablo 3.
I'm having a blast. My guardian is level 56 now and I'm still going strong. The storyline is kinda weird at first, but around level 30 it picks up and gets super good.
The first guy to level 80 made it through crafting. It kind of irks me, but the game is designed to give you about 10 levels worth of experience for putting a trade skill into grandmaster levels.
WHAT. HOW ARE YOU ALREADY LEVEL 56?!
I mean I know there's already a few 80s, but good god man.
Playing a level 22 sylvari necro atm, loving the game. Taking my sweet time and clearing zones.
Actually the guy who hit 80 leveled to 60 normally, then crafted to 80 while his guildies funneled him supplies.
I've done a full clear on at least seven zones now. By far the Harathi Hinterlands has been my favorite. That zone has the most amazing event chain where you have to defend/conquer the centaur encampments. At one point near the end of the chain you actually have to fight three champion War Dogs, another Earth Golem (think human tutorial boss), and finally the leader of the Harathi invasion forces.
"Tell me Hummingbird, how does one fight the wind?"
It's really good for experience and drops. The quest chain takes about 20-30 minutes to complete, has a 10 minute downtime, and gives you about 1/2 to 3/4 of a level (at level 43). They mob you with so many enemies that I had to use a guardian staff in order to tag them all for experience. I used a magic find boost and I got at least 10 golds off that event, including a white dye.
That white dye, though, man it looks epic.
