I finally got around to buying a DS...Here's my buylist so far:
The World Ends With You
Trauma Centre
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy IV
Sonic Collection
Okamiden
Metroid Prime: Hunters
Any more I am missing? I like adventure RPGs and side scrollers...so far I have
Zelda: Spirit Tracks
NSMB
Animal Crossing
and am having fun with them...Zelda is a little inconsistent between agonizingly and very fun...NSMB was usual Mario nostalgia/fun, and Animal Crossing is Animal Crossing ...
and the Korg DS-10 Plus synth program looks cool(My Japanese Coach looks good too)...any feedback on "software" like this?
I also hear very good things about Pokemon, but I feel like I'm too old to play that...haven't played Pokemon since Red (14 years ago?) and I was too old then...but if I'm playing Animal Crossing...shrug.
I recently finished might and magic battle of heroes. It's a pretty cool strategy game. There is a suikoden for DS so you know that's going to be good. If you like tactics games there's a disgaea also and they are always good.
Radiant Historia is the best turn based original RPG on the platform period.
You NEED that game if you love turn based JRPG's
Not to mention its not just a remake/port like FF IV and Chrono Trigger.
In fact if you have a PSP by happenstance getting the FF IV complete collection is superior. You get every iteration of Final Fantasy IV in that pack in 2D with improved graphics.
If you have a DS-Lite, then dear god the gates of heaven shall open because you have another entire library of games: GBA!
I have a lot more GBA games than DS (I honestly just bought a DS a few months ago). Besides recommending Pokemon (I'm 21 and know a lot of people in their 20s that still play), I suggest Advance Wars: Dual Strike. It's a pretty cheap game (I bought it used for $12USD), and it will last you a long time. Probably one of the best games for the DS.
Also, get Mario Kart DS. That's pretty crucial.
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow is the best 2D sidescrolling adventure game I've ever played, and is my vote for best original DS game. Mario Kart DS is probably the best multiplayer experience. Picross DS is easily the best timewaster for the system.
My vote for best DS game definitely goes to Jump Ultimate Stars. Not only the characters are awesome to me, but it's one of the most original games I've ever played. Too bad it never got translated.
While I own both Jump Super Stars and Jump Ultimate Stars, I find it far from original. Don't get me wrong, I love the games (even if I can't read them, that's what GameFAQs are for), but they are pretty much anime Super Smash Bros. Nothing too new besides how you build a 'deck' and have to unlock the pieces.
Pretty satisfying to play with Naruto and DBZ characters and getting healed by the girls from Ichigo 100%.
Never heard of Radiant Historia, I see it just came out a couple of months ago so that would be why, and I'm a huge fan of Atlus/other tactics RPGs (own Knights in the Nightmare, both Luminous Arcs, both FFTAs, both SMT games, etc). It seems to have good reviews so I'll have to go run out and get it.

I'm bad at magic, you're bad at magic, and Level 4 Pro Ari Lax is terrible at magic.
Mario Kart DS is a must. I would also recommend Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2, though it isn't quite as good as it's GBA platform companion, FFTA(1). Still addicting, with great job system.
All three Castlevanias(Dawn of Sorrows, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia), Trauma Center 1&2, Advance wars Dual Strike and Days of Ruin, Kirby Canvas Curse. Meteos, Dragon Quest IX, Civilization Revolution, Picross DS, and Picross 3D

Do it. It's fantastic and original.

"Virtue, Jacques, is an excellent thing. Both good people and wicked people speak highly of it..."
Went out and bought it today, but I am currently playing Mass Effect and Final Fantasy 12 at the same time, with Mass Effect 2 right behind it. Radiant Historia might have to wait awhile

Some awesome picks out there already, but I must second/third Advance Wars: Dual Strike, and Final Fantasy A2: GOTR, with the former being the best advance wars game in the series. FFA2 isn't as good as the 1st one for the gameboy advance, but it still is a great game. Both strategy games too.
I'd also like to nominate Soul Silver/Heart Gold, one of the best Pokemon games to come out besides Emerald.
The Rune Factory/Harvest Moon series is also an amazing experience.
Megaman Zero Collection - Gives you FULL Megaman Zero(1-4) games on one card. Not to mention that some of those games are REALLY hard to find in their original GBA form. Especially at a cheap price too... So it's a good value. It's a great action game series to boot as well.
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survior and Strange Journey - They're both kinda like Pokemon...Minus the multiplayer and cutsey critters. But yeah, it has that "Gotta catch them all!"-feel to them, with all the demons you can collect and fuse. Devil Survior has a really awesome sound track. It's a tactical RPG too, where some of the times you have do more than just beat all of the enemy units. Strange Journey had a pretty neat story(In my opinion at least.) and was more of an old school dugeon crawling RPG.
Meteos - It had a quirky story with multiple endings. Not to mention different planets affect how the blocks fell or need to be launch. One planet has the blocks falling down slowly, while another requires you to launce the blocks twice.
Having completed Radiant Historia, I can comfortably echo what everyone here has said. The game is completely fantastic. My only wish for the game was that it was not on a handheld, so that there could have been alot more of it. It was one of the best RPGs I've played in years.
I got the Sonic collection today. It's awesome. The "SEGA" at the beginning is instant nostalgia. I also have to say I prefer Sonic games to Mario games.
Thanks for all the feedback! I appreciate it! How about Advance Wars? Worth it?

And one can't forget it's Japanese counterpart: Osu! Tatakau! Ouendan!
Also you are never too old for Pokemon. They are great games and I personally recommend either Heartgold or Soulsilver.

Legacy love.
Mario Kart DS is probably the best multiplayer experience.
Picross DS is easily the best timewaster for the system.
Final Fantasy 1-6, Mario 64, ChronoTrigger.
I still can't believe how superior Mario 64 is to everything they've ever done in that franchise.

I could live with just these 4 games for the DS.
