it will be interesting to see how this plays out. I don't the Jets are nearly as bad as everyone is making them out to be but I don't think this vaults them to playoff status, but certainly .500 status seems plausible.
Also fantasy wise it certainly raises Coles, Cotchery, the TEs and even Jones a few notches.
With that said, I've put Coles up on the block immediately, and made it known that I'm looking for a solid QB, top 5 TE or top 5 HB (which I'd obviously throw in more for). Lets hope some of the homers in my league go ZOMG FAVRE MAKE COLEZ BETTER LIKE DRIVER and I can get something awesome for him.
Heh. That would be a very nice windfall for you. If any Jets receiver is going to be the next Donald Driver, I think it will be Jerricho Cotchery.
Hopefully, all of this means that sports shows won't be OMG ALL FAVRE ALL THE TIME now that the bloody drama queen has been traded. If he knew he'd end up playing for the JEts, I bet he would have stayed retired. Favre got into a staring contest with the Packers and lost, which I'm sure he didn't expect. The football wisdom of trading the best QB on your roster, however, remains to be seen.
Poor Aaron Rodgers, though... the first time he goes three-and-out at Lambeau, break out the nails and planks of wood.
Favre was announced as the cover for Madden '09 I believe a short time b4 all this crap started. Kinda inbetween the retirement announcement and this crap.
I find it hilarious. His career is now doomed. So say-eth the Madden!
I find myself pulling quite a bit for Rodgers at the moment.
Of everyone involved in this mess, he managed to keep his head above it all and I respect him for that. Its not over yet for him though. But I hope he holds his own at least.
so is it smarter to take a QB first or a RB...last year i snatched up gore with the 8th over all pick and he sucked it up..then i got brady in the second round...and we all know how that turned out...i think passing is getting so good that it may not be that big of a reach to draft a qb first then snatch two running backs then gobble up recivers.

Depending on the QB available at my pick, I would hit up a great QB only. I usually stick with RB, QB, WR, RB, WR, WR, for my first rounds. but i might change that up this year. I haven't done any mock drafts yet to see who i want.
jets are going to be terrible, no prep time to jell with his players, what was mangini thinking -_-
I think theyll finish 3rd in the division, still better than miami, but way worse than the bills
and WC, as a lions fan you must be loling to the bank.
my hometown broncos lost torain for 3 months, and B marshall for 2 games, but well still prop go 10-6 lose first round as usual.
and 49ers, homey, theyd be lucky to score 17 pts a game with that patchwork line, asside from that one guy on your o-line. oh, and that arm strength*snicker*
I used to be one of those guys that allways picked a RB first round since the talent drop off at that position was huge, but I have found that unless you have one of the top 5 picks depending on who is still there you may be better taking the best player still on the board rather than forcing yourself to take a worse player just because of his position.
Always take the best player on the board for the first few rounds. In round 1, that will often be a running back. Past the first few rounds, you then have to consider the positions you've yet to fill and the scarcity of talent remaining at those positions. Every draft I've been involved in has seem some kind of "kicker run" and "tight end run," where almost all the players drafted in a certain round are of that position.

yea, i've had that same instance occur many times over on the yahoo leagues. I guessed it was because maybe there was a good deal of ppl that missed their draft time, and it was on auto draft. Hence, the block of "te" "k" "wr", whatever it maybe.
I'll almost always go RB RB with my first two picks, followed by WR WR in the 3rd and 4th (usually). RB's tend to be the most productive position all around and they're much harder to get in FA than QB's or WR's. With the exception of the first couple, QB's tend to be the easiest position to get quality from later on in most standard drafts, so I usually wait to draft one until the 5th or 6th round. There are exceptions of course if a higher ranked player drops in the draft and then falls into your lap, but that doesn't happen very often. The only position I'll follow the trend of a "run" for are TE's because after Gates/Witten/Winslow/Gonzalez, there's a rather steep drop in production.

You forgot Shockey, Watson, Vernon Davis, and Dallas Clark. THEN there's a steep drop.
Gonzalez - 147 pts
Witten - 146 pts
Winslow - 136 pts
Gates - 152 pts

Shockey - 79 pts
Watson - 72 pts
Davis - 72 pts
Clark - 123 pts (I'll give you Clark...Cooley is up there too)
I believe you're forgetting that Shockey missed games, and played at half-strength for a majority of the 14 he appeared in. Not to mention the fact that Eli Manning isn't much of a Shockey fan, himself.
Watson was experiencing a drop off as Brady had three new, prime targets. Expect his numbers to come up with Stallworth elsewhere.
Davis is a gamebreaking talent that can, and eventually will put up the same (if not better) numbers than any other TE in the league, so claiming he isn't worth a draft slot is kind of nutty, too.
I never said they weren't worth drafting, I said that there is a drop-off in production. At that position I'm more inclined to take someone who has proven to be a top 5 TE year after year than to take a chance on someone who "could" produce.
I'm starting to think the rb/rb theory is wrong. I get that running backs are important in fantasy, but so many backs that were high picks last year completely failed, and it's a fairly easy position to find on waivers. You can easily do something like QB/WR/WR and get like Brady/Edwards/Fitzgerald or something, which is a pretty consistently sick core of players. I'm thinking of experimenting with that in at least one draft this year, because every time I've gone the generic running back heavy route my team has totally failed. Especially this year, where outside of Tomlinson/Peterson/Westbrook, none of the projected high pick running backs really impress me and/or are injury prone.
I don't even know what I'm gona try this year. I'll probably stick to my guns with my normal draft style, but I might switch it up.
I lol'd at a comment that sportcenter made about the Jets telling Favre that they were 4-12 last year. Basically, his response was = to: O RLY?
he had no clue what their record was. But i laughed. It's easy to understand how you, as a player, won't follow every single team....
but c'mon, someone had to of told you after you got traded what their record, and brief background was/is.
Roger Clemens didn't know five players on the Astros' roster when he came back from retirement to pitch for them. I guess it's just kind of standard for conceited, overinflated old men to be so wrapped up in making it appear to the outside world as if they're enjoying their lives that they simply lose touch.
Guess i'm glad an AFC team got Favre though. I won't have to worry about him running amok against the Lions twice in one year.
Also fantasy wise it certainly raises Coles, Cotchery, the TEs and even Jones a few notches.

Oh, and apparently from yahoo news, EA is going to leave him as a Packer on the cover, but switch him to Jets in the game for the roster as a downloadable update. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080807/ap_en_ce/games_brett_favre
But u Brett Favre fans out there can print out a new cover with him in the Jets uniform too!!!!
This keeps getting better and better. lolz
Actually, as a Packers fan, I can say that as long as Rodgers doesn't throw a Favre-like number of interceptions, I'll be happy. Or at least content.
Of everyone involved in this mess, he managed to keep his head above it all and I respect him for that. Its not over yet for him though. But I hope he holds his own at least.
