My thoughts:
-How is The Little Mermaid even eligible for Best Score? Only like half of it was written for the show!
-Nice to see that Kerry Butler got nominated for Best Actress In A Musical. She won't win (I'd say it belongs to LuPone or Russell, from what I've read) but it's good to see.
-Cry-Baby nominated for Best Musical and Best Book? Really? That seems weird, based on the reviews.
-Nice to see The Homecoming and Raul Esparza get the nominations they (from all I've heard) deserve.
-From all I've heard, Laura Benanti is pretty much a lock on featured actress in a musical. And deserves it.
-Hahaaa. Grease is nominated for Best Revival of a Musical, just because there were only four this year.
-Congrats to Sondheim for finally getting that Lifetime Achievement Tony, to add to the many others on his mantelpiece!
-August: Osage Countywill win Best Play. It knows it. Everyone else knows it. The other nominations are just a formality.
Possibly I'm the only one who cares, but here they are
You are absolutely not the only one who cares about it. Ever since my ex sat me down I'd say five years ago to watch the Tony Awards, it has become my favorite awards ceremony ever. Unfortunately, I don't keep track of the reviews like I should, so I truly don't know much about the shows that were nominated, but I do think that this year will be incredibly fun, especially with the wonderful Whoopie Goldberg hosting.
You are most certainly not the only one who cares Sakura. All I have to say is that Osage is Best Play. And Young Frankenstein better win best scene design. Those sets were amazing.
I too used to be a huge follower of the Tonys back when I was in high school but haven't been following it too much in recent years. I'll have to read up on some of these new musicals.
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.
You are most certainly not the only one who cares Sakura. All I have to say is that Osage is Best Play. And Young Frankenstein better win best scene design. Those sets were amazing.
Psst. I'm Dorian.
I haven't seen the sets of YF, but I've heard they're one of the enjoyable things. And there's no question that August will win at least Best Play, and likely most of its other nominations also.
That and awesomeness, people need to remember though that my level of awesomeness is blinding and causes madness. If they can see clearly and aren't gibbering or drooling then they are reading a Tuatha post.
Xanadu rocks. I bought the Movie on HVS even though I havent owned a VCR in years. It was only $1 so I rescued it.
The movie is amazing in that trainwreck sort of way. The musical, on the other hand, is just a blast. I'll probably get to see it in august or so, which delights me.
I'm so glad Kerry Butler got a nomination. Her former Broadway roles (Penny in Hairspray and Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors) were snubbed, so it's nice to see her get that recognition. Not that she'll win (odds are good, as I said above, that it goes to either Russell or LuPone), but every little bit helps, and it seems she's beginning to be recognized as a bona fide star.
Just as a tangent, the shows I intend to see this summer when I get to go to NYC: Xanadu, August: Osage County, [title of show] (opens July 7th), Gypsy, South Pacific, and, if I can stretch my money that far, Add1ng Machine (Off-Broadway), In The Heights, and Passing Strange (the latter two may move up or down the queue after the Tonys, based on how I like their performances during the ceremony)
