There was some discussion earlier about closing this thread, and someone else said we should wait until at least the 20th. I just want to throw it back into the air: should this thread be closed to start over with something that isn't specifically about the election, which is long over by now?
If the topics currently being discussed are making a lot of traction in discussion, I see no reason to close the thread as yet. We can always create a new thread with regards to what Trump does now that he's in office.
On a sidenote, you know what makes me really happy and proud to be an American, or indeed just all around proud to be a human being? The fact that Trump's inauguration crowd is completely dwarfed by the crowd of today's protesters in DC, to say nothing of the protesters worldwide.
I don't know who runs EarthCam, but thanks guys. You made my outlook on this country great again.

A visibly shaken and enraged Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary, took the podium for his first briefing from the press briefing room. He read a statement filled with demonstrable lies and excoriated the media for its accurate reporting about inauguration crowd size, reporting that displeased Donald Trump.
He warned them that the President of the United States will hold journalists accountable for this kind of (verifiably accurate) reporting going forward.

Quote from Four more journalists get felony charges after covering inauguration unrest »
Four more journalists have been charged with felonies after being arrested while covering the unrest around Donald Trump’s inauguration, meaning that at least six media workers are facing up to 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine if convicted.
A documentary producer, a photojournalist, a live-streamer and a freelance reporter were each charged with the most serious level of offense under Washington DC’s law against rioting, after being caught up in the police action against demonstrators.
The Guardian learned of their arrests after reporting on Monday that the journalists Evan Engel of Vocativ and Alex Rubinstein of RT America had also been arrested and charged with felonies while covering the same unrest on Friday morning.
All six were arraigned in superior court on Saturday and released to await further hearings in February and March, according to court filings. The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said late on Tuesday that charges against journalists who were covering the protests should be dropped.
Man, the Trump administration already calls verifiable facts fake news and obvious lies alternate facts, so locking up journalists isn't far out of character.
In environmental news, the EPA has been told to cut Climate Change from their site. [link] This is in a follow up to the Trump administration cutting the ability of environmental agencies to communicate with the public without direct approval of the administration. [link] Also, Trump's refusal to drop his financial ties means that the previously canceled pipelines he's used an executive order to keep building might be directly profitable for him. [link] All of this suggests to me that the Trump admin are willing to burn the world if it keeps them in profit for a little while longer.
Also, Trump's refusal to drop his financial ties means that the previously canceled pipelines he's used an executive order to keep building might be directly profitable for him. [link]

You sure about that?
Shares of ETP, the company building the 450,000 barrel-a-day Dakota pipeline, ended the day up 3.5 percent in U.S. trading.
Trump owned ETP stock through at least mid-2016, according to financial disclosure forms, and ETP's chief executive, Kelcy Warren, donated $100,000 to his campaign.
That states that he had a very recent and potentially continuing interest in one of the companies that has directly benefited from the pipeline being approved. And that the chairman of that company donated a significant sum of money to Trumps Presidential campaign. Whilst Reuters are hedging their bets and not directly saying that Trump still has an interest in ETP, probably because they don't have absolute proof. The fact that so soon into his presidency he could be seen to be blatantly rewarding one of his supporters is worrying especially if the White house is going to be applying pressure to the relevant departments to expedite the approval process with out giving enough time for discovery.

Well, people who actually give a ***** about America and understand the gravity of the situation are worried. You do need to qualify that.
I'd also like to add to your list the fact that Donald Trump is convinced that millions of people voted illegally. Because of reasons he does not have to explain to you. So much so that he's going to call for an investigation. Again, he is calling for an investigation of an election HE WON based on NOTHING. All because he can't take the idea that he lost the popular vote to Clinton. Not even Fox News is backing up Trump on this one.

That's probably not because he has mental problems (and people need to stop throwing the mentally ill under metaphorical buses), but because he's spent most of his life as a sheltered rich person, what with inheriting his dad's money and batches of sycophants.

Of course, Trump's own lawyers said there was no evidence of voter fraud, in an effort to stop recounts from going ahead. Also, why is Trump convinced that the supposed five million illegal votes were all for Clinton?

No, Trump has a mental problem. Not all sheltered rich people behave the way he does. His own daughter is obviously better adjusted than he is (jury's still out on his sons). And even if his behavior can all be traced to his upbringing, that doesn't make it any less of a mental problem. Narcissistic personality disorder is narcissistic personality disorder regardless of where it came from; the DSM is agnostic on the matter.
So that has just removed one potential conflict of interest in the matter. That large political donation is still worrying considering that one of Trumps first actions made the ETP Chief Executive significantly richer.

I don't like Trump any more than the next guy. But if we can't keep our facts straight, if we repeat everything we hear that makes our political opponent look bad and just shrug our shoulders when it turns out to be untrue... isn't that behavior pattern supposed to be why we don't like him?

Hey, "I'm a spoiled rich kid" was successfully used as a defense for a teenager in Texas who killed 4 people driving drunk. Supposedly, because his parents didn't teach him "right from wrong", he was therefore not responsible for the deaths.
I mean, he didn't get off completely scott-free, but downgrading from jailtime to probation is just a slap on the wrist.

I'm not fiddling. I'm asking reasonable questions like "what has he done?" and getting Hitler comps as answers.
Obama bombs Yemen, wins Nobel Peace Prize. Trump places temporary ban on Yemeni immigration and he's Hitler. You see how this is difficult to take seriously? Meanwhile, the hijab is a symbol of female liberation and Western Christianity is repressive, Mexico is telling the U.S. that it can't do anything about its porous southern border all the while Mexico itself sure as heck is concerned about its southern border, NATO is whining about the U.S. being a poor ally when practically everyone besides the U.S., U.K. and Poland haven't fulfilled their treaty obligations in decades, Bern fans are complaining about Trump being an isolationist just because he's treating trade exactly like Bernie promised to and leftists are outraged at the phrase "alternative facts" after they've been warping the minds of our children with their moral and cultural relativism for years.

Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize because of bombing Yemen.
Trump is compared to Hitler because of the temporary ban on Yemeni immigration.
People are saying en masse that the hijab is a symbol of female liberation.
People are saying en masse that Western Christianity is repressive.
Mexico has communicated that it can't do anything about the US/Mexico border.
Mexico has shown particular recent concern for its southern border.
