Oath of the Gatewatch; the set that caused the competitive community to freak out over Basic Lands.
To me, it's frustrating, but not surprising. We have had enough of this stuff in the past, with Doritos-gate, "journalists" going on trips sponsored by games publishers and whatnot. The only new thing I found out is that they are actually pushing an agenda. I mean, I knew that games journalism had some issues, but I did not expect all major sites to be some kind of progressive Fox News. It's frustrating to me, because I see people I respected before this making wild claims and accusations about anyone questioning the integrity of gaming sites and/or Zoe Quinn, basically calling everyone 'against' Zoe Quinn a misogynist.
It's not about that, not for me. It's about the blatant cronyism and agenda-pushing that's happening, and it's frustrating that I'm neo-Godwinned for that.
The Escapist ran a story about Quinn's harassment in late 2013 with little evidence other than her word. We will always default towards helping out people who are the subject of harassment on the internet. I do not support behavior of that kind and will strive to protect those who are feeling the effects of it. We will signal-boost those incidents because I think it's important to create change, and will only choose not to post such stories if I decide they will do more harm to the situation.
- Greg Tito, Editor in Chief at Escapist
And yes, maybe the other thing that has come out of this is that Zoe Quinn may be a horrible person, but I really don't care about that. We have our fair share of horrible people in the industry already, so one more or less doesn't really matter.

We have laboured long to build a heaven, only to find it populated with horrors.
Your link defends death threats by saying everyone gets them? Guess what no one should be getting death threats, even more so no one should be getting death threats from people who have found out where you live. The idea that people should just shrug off a barrage of threats like that is at best naive. The internet has a harassment problem and we shouldn't just accept it.
Yes, there are always ********s on the internet. Good job. Yes, we should shun them, and if I knew any of these persons personally, I would. However, the issue here is that they seem to make a huge deal out of Sarkeesian getting death threats, while when it happened to other people, for example Stardock's CEO, it seemed to be much less so, to the point they weren't even reported on in any of the major sites I know of.
Your basic jist is also wrong it should be: woman cheats on a man, that man tells the internet and the internet goes crazy.
Really now?
There is no corruption involved it is just people can't act like reasonable human beings on the internet and keep taking things too far. There is no corruption here, depression quest is a free game and has not even been reviewed by the guy she slept with. This is also why no one believes that you really are talking about corruption, there are plenty of questionable things in the industry but they are all ignored for this tabloid much racking.
Actually, the corruption bit is also a Chinese whispers effect. Gamers were miffed around there being a possible conflict of interest (some of the guys she did have relationships with did write about her and/or her game), and how questions about that were being completely ignored.
But again: that is not really the main issue, not in my eyes.

Judging by the way this has spread and the past behavior of the people/groups I've seen mostly pushing it, it's like 10-20% actually a story and 90-80% rampant misogyny and trolling (eg 4chan and thunderf00t). Critical examination of your data sources is useful, but this gamergate thing looks half-cracked in places. Probably because /v/ is involved.
If this turns out to actually be a story aside from a larger than average 4chan raid, I'll get involved later. As it is:

I think there's a lot of immature people hiding behind keyboards and user names, who have no idea what damage they can actually do with their vitriol. It's been an ugly week in the world of video gaming.
Gaming journalists are already some of the most corrupt journalists out there. Gaming magazines depend on ad revenue from the very games they're covering to be viable. If that's not a major conflict of interest, I don't know what is.
Further, the 'Journalist' in question is a Kotaku writer. I say writer, because Kotaku is best described as a blog. Anyone expecting serious journalism from the Gawker network is at best naive.

No one cared about Quinn sleeping with five people (At least no one who has a valid opinion; I'm sure there are some people who care, but **** those guys). What everyone cares about is the fact that one of those people works for Gaming Websites, posted positive reviews about her game (Which the consensus is is that it's poop, and that was before this whole mess started), and that she allegedly shut down a charity that made games for women and said Gaming Websites refused to actually report on it.
Add to the fact that Journalists have started calling gamers "As bad as ISIS Terrorists and Nazis", and you can see why everyone is up in arms about it.

and there are even some pointers which may indicate it was Phill Fish himself doing it to generate sympathy.
So you're >implying he doxx'd himself and his company to generate sympathy? Wat?
What can’t be denied, however, are the results: 1.5 gigabytes of personal information belonging to both Fish and his company were leaked to the web, including passwords for both his personal and Polytron Twitter accounts, the company’s financial and Paypal information, and Fish’s home address and banking information. The leak was confirmed by Fez programmer Renaud Bedard via Twitter.

Mattie Brice has officially left videogame criticism because she can't deal with the ***** anymore.
Jenn Frank has also left videogame criticism, after being targeted as part of an extended harassment campaign despite there being no good reason for her to be targeted.
Andy Khouri continues to tell gamers to go **** themselves, has not been targeted. Zoe Quinn is still being harassed.

In much the same way that the Ferguson protests were hooligans wanting an excuse to loot and vandalize. That's happening, and we need to come down on it like a ton of bricks, but it's not the only thing that's happening.

I just figure if it was about integrity of journalism I'd see more people tearing down official "doritos and dew" type press events and supporting independent writers, rather than what I'm actually seeing. With Ferguuson I mostly saw legit protesters and people putting official pressure on the cops, with very little vandalism.

That and it would have happened Long Ago, with the state of the relationship between the game publishing companies and the journalists, and how long it has continued. Possibly Zoe Quinn was the trigger for a long overdue restoration of integrity to game journalism, but if so it seems to be getting snowed under by opportunistic misogyny in much the same way as genuine men's issues got co-opted by MRAs.

Maybe just hitch your cart to a different and more sensible claim, like remember when microsoft was paying youtubers to secretly promote the xone? Now there is a real issue off corruption, but this? It is just an excuse for harassment and I think you have some how missed that. Also be a little more critical of the claim made by the people taking part in this harassment, I have yet to see an legitimate proof that Zoey Quinn fake doxxed her self or that she faked the wizard chan raid. It is just those statements have been repeated so much they are not "fact", the same way you assumed Phil Fish doxxed him self for attention.
In the end this is just about a relationship ending badly as a woman slept with people she met though her work. Now real issues like that youtube thing just get forgotten about.
Where the **** have you seen me say I believe this is indicative of the corruption which we already know is in games journalism? For me, this entire debacle has been more about white-knighting and the gaming websites pushing a narratieve, but you know what? I've been beaten. I don't care anymore. I've been told i'm a misogynist and that I should **** off and die for not supporting Zoë Quinn. And now any possibility of any of the points I tried to make, valid or not, being taken seriously is gone forever because a group nog *******s has poisoned the well.

Nope. I'm done with it. They can all go and jump off the highest building they can find. I'll just delete all my gaming website bookmarks. I'm done. They can keep their "all male white gamers are racist misogynists" echochamber websites, because they have ****ing won. Starting a new tag is useless, since they'll go "but muh misogyny" and everyone will believe them because the ****wipes have poisoned the well so completely. Debate on this was already hard because it's a hotbutton topic and people were very prone to use some neo-godwin already, but the last two weeks it has just become impossible and I'm not even going to try.

Or maybe some introspection is needed, I mean really it is very hard to take you seriously why you say things like white knights. Really saying that or social justic warrior makes your point sound ridiculous. I mean look at this http://imgur.com/NFGgOEU I don't see how any adult can look at that image and not cringe.
Sure, so what should I call it when I try to discuss this issue and I get twenty or so comments along the line of "I'm a male gamer and I think you're a sexist PoS for even bringing this up, hasn't this poor woman blablablabla" despoten me not even mentioning her? Yes terms like white knighting are a warning sign, but they do not ****ing invalidate points I make.

Places of business got ransacked and burned down. Without in any way excusing a completely inexcusable online harassment campaign, arson is way worse. I'm calling bull on your double standard. If you want to use Anon's crimes as evidence that there can be no legitimate complaint here, then Fox News gets to use the vandalism as evidence that there's no legitimate complaint in Ferguson. Or you could address the complaint by actually addressing the complaint.

How? What do you ****ing expect me to do? Lie on the floor and ask for forgivenes? I die not do those things. How the **** do you expect me to prove that a movement isn't controlled by the *******s?

Where the **** have you seen me say I believe this is indicative of the corruption which we already know is in games journalism? For me, this entire debacle has been more about white-knighting and the gaming websites pushing a narratieve, but you know what? I've been beaten. I don't care anymore. I've been told i'm a misogynist and that I should **** off and die for not supporting Zoë Quinn. And now any possibility of any of the points I tried to make, valid or not, being taken seriously is gone forever because a group nog *******s has poisoned the well.

Don't feel bad, Rodyle. Lots of people got played by these ********s. I feel like #gamergate needs to get dropped if you're gonna escape association with the hackers. Maybe start a new tag.
