You're seeing what you want to. Who says the rulers were both men or both women? It just says rulers. Also from the picture it's hard to tell if they're the same gender or not.
This is probably the set to do it nonetheless. Grecians were notorious for their bi-sexuality.

That's why I linked to Doug Beyer's blog post. He works at WotC.
I thought that this one was the first homosexual reference

Why do I like posting in lists:
1. It allows me to express multiple thoughts without a need to write an essay or make multiple posts. 2. I tend to have multiple thoughts at the same time. 3. Having the right first opinion is sometimes more glorious than having a grammatically correct second opinion. 4. It allows you as a reader to pick out the most erroneous point and counter-comment, allowing you the chance to express an opinion and look like a sensible person when I sound like a dummy.
There's two people in that picture. One has a smile on his face, and the other looks to be preoccupied with something below the picture frame.
I think I can make another point here from this reference: How do you (or rather, I) explain the flavor text to a 12 year old?

Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets. (Matthew 7:12)
Make the white queen run so fast, she hasn't got time to make you wise.
Pilot of the storm who leaves no trace, like thoughts inside a dream.
Doctor, my eyes, tell me what you see. I hear their cries... just say if it's too late for me.
Doctor, my eyes...cannot see the sky. Is this the prize for having learned how not to cry?
Hell, I'm religious and I'm not sure what the flavor text means.
I think its supposed to be a reference to how myths can be misconstrued over time.

I guess "shoes" is a more delicate way to put it.

Cool if it does, cool if it doesn't. Really, I honestly don't care either way. Just like with people getting all excited over the first non-movie female Kamen Rider in Wizard, I'm all for equal opportunity, and when it is done in a way that doesn't feel like just checking a box off a list or something, as is the case here, it's great, but I don't think it really is something to make a big deal about because...well it isn't something to make a big deal about.
I think I can make another point here from this reference: How do you (or rather, I) explain the flavor text to a 12 year old?
You explain it in the context of religion. Sexual innuendos are better left to more mature people (or maybe just older people who haven't matured past Adam Sandler humor).
The picture makes it really hard to tell what gender either ruler is. Is it possible to confirm wizards' intentions?
While many cards in the game can be overtly sexual, like that one where the elf is like caught in vines in a provocative position that I don't know the name of.
How many times have any relationships of any combination of genders been implied or shown in the cards?
Well, I'll be damned.

In all seriousness, this is wonderful. It's especially nice to see a Wizards employee officially acknowledge it.

Great to see this in MtG. I have no dog in the race, of either persuasion, but even so, I see inclusiveness as a good - and inevitable - thing.

How many times have any relationships of any combination of genders been implied or shown in the cards?
Just the tips.
