Yes Tuss that's a good point. But it's not just about what is attainable by the upper class anymore, because it's entirely possible to be dirt-poor but not out of shape. I've lived dirt poor as a child in the US and it didn't matter as far as my figure was concerned. A big part of the problem now is the kind of lifestyle that Americans lead on average compared to "thinner" countries. The biggest difference I think is how much less Americans walk. Much, much less on average. Now, in large cities like NYC people do more walking and I think are therefore more fit than in, say, Ohio. It seems like it makes quite a difference. Diet matters as well but I'm not sure that French people eat that much less than Americans, really. They do smoke more, maybe that makes a difference
I think the "thin is better" has more to do with an emphasis on YOUTH is better, than it does on wealth. Frankly, the stick thin models look pre-pubescent, to barely pubescent, and their faces are the same, eyes disproportionately large compared to rest of face.
And the 6-packed athletic bodies of the male ideal are easily obtained at 15-22... and are more difficult to achieve each year after that.
Fat young people essentially have the bodies of old people.

I'm not sure what's pre-pubescent about VS models. Consider for a moment what they advertise In all seriousness though, I have to call BS on that, my brother, because while the people generally considered to be most beautiful are young, a cursory glance at any "most beautiful people" list or who happens to be considered "sexy" and what-not will tell you that it's not really youth that's attractive. Youth makes it easier to be attractive, no doubt. But I'm pretty sure the reason Gisele Bundchen is considered to be one of the best-looking women on the planet (well I'm not sure I share that sentiment because she's not quite my type but anyways) isn't that she looks like a little girl.
Not all guys are lolicons you know.

True. They also have the bodies of fat people, which works against them all on its own. Women have no problem being attracted to older men (wasn't Harrison Ford named sexiest man by People Magazine or something when he was 60-ish? and then there's Clooney, Gere, all those guys) but a bit more of one being attracted to fat dudes. Less so than when the genders are reversed, but still.
I'm not sure if you noticed, but I hate liberals. I certainly am not a liberal.
No, ummon, you're not getting it. When we talk about "people who identify themselves as feminists but only make feminism look bad and create an uphill battle for people who are intelligent, logical, articulate feminists due to their association with them", we're talking about you.

I'm not sure if that's true though, because while youth is definitely a factor, what kind of body build for men or women is attractive has shifted.
Indeed, wealth is a factor as well, but the question of how this changes over time is unknown to me.

Pretty sure that originally muscular, tan men were not considered attractive because of the stigma of being a laborer outside. Not sure what's going on now or where the transition went.
