Watch this(4 years later) Told you obama would run this country into the ground.
1) He will end the war, if he doesnt do this people will not reelect him.
Catch 22 1) Ending the war wrecks the economy see all ended wars for every country ever.
2) Heath care for all
Catch 22 2) This imbalances the budget compleatly and doesnt work at all.
3) Higher taxes on the weathy to balance budgets
Catch 22 3) Taxing the wealthy ships jobs over seas, see historical treands.
4) More rasists voted for obama then voted for mccain, see the 97% of african americans which knew nothing about obama other then "Hes black like me"
The last time such a majority was held in the house and senate progressives destroyed the nation. I can only hope the same happens again and the republicans can fix it still in 4 years.
EDIT: Watch him go to war with darfur and the media spin it to be a good thing. That would probably be the thing that makes me the most mad out of his presidency that I believe WILL happen.
People like this really exist? I thought they were just actors hired to be McCain plants in rallies.
The important thing now is the people which he selects for his cabinet. I really hope Mr. Powell is a possibility. Many people admire his wisdom and experience and it would be a proper move toward the center.
I'm trying to maintain my optimism, but I worry that Obama won't see any reason to move towards the center. The Democrats' sweeping victory could be read as a mandate for a more liberal direction.
Eh? Who said moral equivalence? (I don't even know what that is.)
You implied that toppling a non-democratic government was as bad a justification for war as blatant racism. This is not true. Political sovereignty cannot be used as a shield by a mere gang of thugs.

The testament to being above a purely racial campaign is the overwhelming Latino vote. Normally the Black vote does not go well with the Latino vote but Obama was able to unite both.
But yeah I know plenty of white people who voted for him so its not just a racial campaign. None of them told me they voted with him because he was black.
Obama got people to the voting booths and it paid off big time this was a well run campaign and obviously the economy did not help McCain.
And Hawaii ended UHC after how long? 7 months was it?
Anyway, congratulations to Obama... as much as I'd rather not have seen him get elected. His campaign was successful.
But the Republicans did manage to focus on their main goal, keeping the ability to Filibuster the Senate.
Now with the Democrats in full control of both house and senate and the presidency, when the nation gets worse, the Republicans can storm to power again.
But the sad thing is, the next presidential election... the spending will be out of control, as Obama has set a president. Get $200 donations from around the world, because they don't track transactions $200 or less. Don't take public funding as you will lose. Obama brought in more money in the month of September in donations than McCain had to spend in the final 3 months of the election alone.
Public funding is finished.
Is that a good thing? When the next election both major candidates are topping 500 million in donations, you tell me.
That's how political comedy works; if it were serious discourse, I'd call it out for a form of cherry picking.
it still goes to show the ineptness of people that voted and what they were thinking which they weren't.
any event i do not believe they have enough seats to override the filibuster although it is very close. hopefully our senators and house rep's will use their heads.
UHC has been enacted in a Maryland county with no tax changes, and actually increased the profitability of the hospitals in the county, including reduced malpractice insurance costs for the doctors. Now their plan doesn't mesh up with BHO's directly, but to say it will have a massive cost over-run is very short-sighted
One county is not the best example to use now is it. i point you to the state of MA that has enacted a UHC. it is taking people a year to get a physical. There are not enough doctors. the state is running red ink all over the place due to the cost. hmm sounds pretty typical of a UHC system to me and more a representation than 1 county. in fact they were seeking the federal government for help to offset the cost.
ow taxes on the rich have been terms where the unemployment rate increased 4/5 recent times
then please explain the 4-6 years of low uneployment and low taxes. sorry it doesn't fit your bill. you forget policy lag again.
things are instant it takes time for them to work into the system 2-4 years at least depending on the measure taken and how bad the system is in shock.
Obama got people to the voting booths and it paid off big time this was a well run campaign and obviously the economy did not help McCain
he copied rove to a tee. isn't that interesting. No it didn't. had the economy held i think mccain would have won.
Is that a good thing? When the next election both major candidates are topping 500 million in donations, you tell me.
It can result in the sort of massive funding differences between candidates that we saw in this election. But considering how close it was in the end (I'm looking at the popular vote here), I'm not sure that funding as as much the be-all and the end-all of political campaigning that it is sometimes accused of being.

Plus, not all candidates can raise that much money. Even if McCain didn't take public funding he wouldn't have been able to raise as much as Obama did.

Um, this statement is pretty racist in itself. Since black people are the minority in the US, then if a significant amount of people went to the polls to vote for the person that "looked like me" we'd have a white president, again. The fact that we don't leaves me to guess that you are trying to say that 97% (where did that random number come from, btw?) black people are dumb enough to vote based solely on appearance.
EDIT: Watch him go to war with darfur and the media spin it to be a good thing. That would probably be the thing that makes me the most mad out of his presidency that I believe WILL happen.
More likely, he'll go to war with Iran since Dems are just as controlled by oil companies as the Republicans are.
Also, the media will spin any war as a good thing (at least at first).

Certainly the Obamamercial didn't hurt Obama now did it?
The fact is that the money didn't hurt. Heck, Obama was running spots in a my home state, a state he pulled out of months ago simply because he had the money to spend. McCain couldn't bother because he couldn't afford to waste his limited resources like that. McCain did win my home state btw.
Even if McCain couldn't raise as much money as Obama, he certainly could have managed to raise more than the amount of public funding allowed to him.

Oh, it certainly doesn't hurt. My point was merely that collecting 80% of the total donations doesn't mean you'll get anywhere near 80% of the total votes. I'd prefer it if campaigns could somehow be put on an even footing without denying people their First Amendment rights, but the potential for huge funding gaps isn't something I'll lose sleep over.
The fact that we don't leaves me to guess that you are trying to say that 97% (where did that random number come from, btw?) black people are dumb enough to vote based solely on appearance.
Obama's percentage of the black electorate is going to be somewhere in the mid- high nineties; that is not in question. Blacks mostly lean Democratic, true, but if you see numbers like that, and you don't think the politics of racial identity had anything to do with it, you're fooling yourself. Then there's the spike in black voter turnout...
I was watching the whole night, and turned the TV off after the victory speech. I thought it was quiate a good speech. Where do you all think it ranks in terms of presidential speeches?
Today is a good day. Now I can go back to criticizing the United States as merely falling short of its potential rather than being the enemy of all that is good and decent... (For a particular definition of 'good'.)
I was watching the whole night, and turned the TV off after the victory speech. I thought it was quiate a good speech. Where do you all think it ranks in terms of presidential speeches?
It doesn't really count. It's just the victory speech; it's nothing formal. (To be fair, neither was the Gettysburg Address; but this was no Gettysburg Address.) Come back after his inaugural speech; I predict that one's going to be something to remember.
Your attempt to be careful about keeping to your relativism, though admirable, also has the unfortunate side effect of undercutting the strength of your statement.

I have a feeling if the republican party hadn't gotten away from it's traditional values and stopped a lot of the stuff that bush did (in some cases) that they would be better off.
however they didn't and they fell into the same mier that dem's did during reagan and bush and they lost.
they lost their way. however i have a feeling after 4 years of obama and a majority democratic party people will go back.

I don't think a campaign acceptance speech counts as a presidential speech. A presidential speech is something like FDR's Day of Infamy speech or JFK's Man on the Moon speech.
Well, here's to what will hopefully be an inspiring and regenerative four years for America [capitol A!], where we can put the previous 8 of intolerance/ignorance/general stupidity running rampant/etc. as far behind us as we can, and work together to solve our problems.
McCain's speech was admirably classy, and Obama's speech, though a bit longwinded, was noteworthy mainly because he is upfront about the fact that there are no instant solutions. There's a bit of Kennedy in him. Here's to a better tomorrow [and, once he's in office, hopefully a better today].
My first Presidential election I got to vote in, here.

Eh.... Nevada's gonna be screwed over so I'm not too happy. I still find it hard to believe that it went Democrat this time. Must be all the Anti-Bush "Latino's". Really, we need better laws that keep illegal-immigrants out. More powerful than any of Bush's plans and I hope Obama sees that.

Wow, that's cool; let's keep people out of the country because they're associated with the people who vote the "wrong way."
If you're an illegal immigrant, you sure as hell can't register to vote. Way to be.

I'm not solidly behind Obama's personal plans for getting this country back on track, but I am confident that he can inspire us to do the right thing and that he can accept the best advice from any side of the political color wheel.

Yes, Obama favors more active government in regards to regulation and providing healthcare. But he is also an unambiguous proponent of personal responsibility.
This will be the first time in 20 years that America will have a President who is not, in any way shape or form, a hick (although Reagan was an ass for many other reasons).
Also, this was my first election, and it was pretty sweet being on the winning side. Apparently this is a rare experience for us Dems.
And McCain lost because Sarah Palin is an idiot, and because no one gives a crap about some unliscensed plumber in the ass-end of Ohio.
