Would it be like that episode in Gundam Wing where da Rommafeller Foundation united all countries in the "Earth Sphere Alliance" and then announced that "All national borders are dissolved". There would be no more countries who's borders are arbitrarily decided, as that was seen as the cause for all wars, "Them vs Us." Creating a single culture.
I don't know about that, but John Lennon's "imagine" covers it pretty well:
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine was the Communist Manifesto put to melody. I really hate that song. I hate John Lennon and his pompous, limp-wristed form of idealism, and all the idiots that flock to it's banner, dead-set on self-righteousness without all the bother of hard work.
One over-arching world government wouldn't create a utopia or end all suffering and strife, nor would it kill religion. It's not reasonable to expect it to do these things. All it would do is make the world a bit better of a place to live. It would certainly need a lot of effort and time put into it, and the attention of the voting populace. It's not some easy fix.

John Lennon was one of the hardest working musicians of all time. His work wasn't necessarily to sell his records but to better the world. He put him self out there to at least try to make the world a better place and then was killed because of the notoriety he gained for his work.
To slam communism is very 1960s, McCarthism has been over for quite a few decades at this point. The man tried put him self out there to make it better not just for him self, but for everyone. To hate John Lennon is absurd. He was a great man that only tried to make the world a better place and not harm anyone in the process. If we had a man like him around right now, the world would be a much better place.
To hate John Lennon is as ignorant as it is to not believe he was hard working. I can understand not liking him or his views, but to hate a man that was so much about piece is just unbelievable to me.
What did he do to you or someone you care about for you to hate him? Just wondering what your hate threshold is.
You could argue that Romans simply wanted peace, but the acts of Rome were still horrible. The way a person goes about bringing peace, and the following around them can be very objectionable. I disagree with IBA, but his opinions are valid. Also, dislike for someone can be aggravated to a great length by the nuisance of that person's following. If I disliked Lennon, I'd probably grow to hate him because of the way he is treated by those who like him, too.

My anecdotal evidence disagrees with yours! EXPLAIN THAT!

All of John Lennon's actions and the actions of his supporters never harmed anyone. What where the horrible acts of John Lennon and those who support him? There is no reason to hate him or his supporters. They don't do anything to harm anyone. To compare him to the Romans is lunacy.

So did Mao. So what? The worst sort of tyrants are those who act for our own good. This is why White is the most evil color in Magic.

Umm, yeah, because no one with any intellectual honesty could honestly consider Communism anything but a joke at this point, so you don't need to criticize it. At the time when Lennon was singing, however, it was still killing millions, and would continue to do so for decades afterwards.
To hate John Lennon is absurd. He was a great man that only tried to make the world a better place and not harm anyone in the process. If we had a man like him around right now, the world would be a much better place.
He was arrogant and willfully ignorant. Of course he wanted peace- everyone wants peace. Hitler wanted peace. He wanted his own peace, one where people weren't allowed to compete or believe.

His views of how the World should be run were incredibly lazy. They were rather like the French Revolution's ideals- lofty and high-minded, but with no honest-to-God concept of how to actually ****ing get there.
What did he do to you or someone you care about for you to hate him? Just wondering what your hate threshold is.
Umm, he was the leading voice of the babyboomers, the most selfish and destructive generation in American history. What else do you want? I can think of no other generation that turned the wheels of progress backwards. If you don't think that free love, the drug culture, the willful destruction of authority and social duty was harmful to society,I really don't know what to tell you. I imagine you, like others, wrongly attribute positive things like the civil rights movement or the women's rights movement to the hippie generation, but it's entirely false. About the only good thing to come out of it was granola and some decent but highly over-rated music.
