Of course there are some Iraqis who liked their government and still wish to have it back. But there were many Iraqis who hated their government - and there still are.
Violence simply gets better coverage than anything else. We don't often hear from the Iraqis who are happy that Sadaam is gone and are making sacrifices to ensure the future of Democracy there. Because that story doesn't "sell".
This doesn't change the fact that Iraq is a chaotic mess, but you should at least take it into consideration.
I'm just saying that, despite the fact that Iran's government is bad, it'll probably have as much or more support than Saddam's government did, which would mean a greater resistance.

I think Bush right now is just trying to scare them. In fact, this is actually a good idea. This is probably the first thing I actually agree with Bush with since the war in Afghanistan.
Since the registering for the Iraqi elections is taking place, many Iranians are crossing the border and registering. I think this is the main reason he really makes any threats. He wants to try to keep the election as "clean" as possible.

Well, you're probably right. Hey, I wasn't endorsing the invasion of Iran anyway. I just think that, of all the threats, Iran was/is a more worthy one that Iraq.
The invasion won't happen. It's an attempt to intimidate Iran diplomatically. Bush did the right thing here even if his threats weren't 'real'.
I personally think that the real reason that Iran would be invaded is because it is more-or-less, the muslim superpower. And once (/if) the U.S. manage to defeat Iran, they will be known as the ultimate force to be reckoned with. Of course, if they were to invade Iran, a massive call to arms would be initiated from the surounding nations to help Iran repell the invasion. So, basically what I believe that they are thinking is that if the can crush Iran, they can crush the muslim extremists.
Those are my thoughts anyways...

The war on terror. "Terror." Yes. This may just be me, but it's kind of difficult to declare war on an abstract noun.

America has its hands full already, and there's no basis for regime change in Iran unless it comes at the hands of the people themselves.
If Iran doesn't back down and come to the bargaining table, they can expect air strikes on there nuclear development facilities, but not an invasion.
What Bush said was hardly surprising. If he would have said that military action would not be used against Iran, it would be doubtful anyone would have believed him. At least this keeps the option open (and maybe this time we might actually need to intervene in the country). I do think something needs to be done about Iran where the likelihood of nuclear weapons and their proliferation to terrorists is far greater than say, in Iraq before that war.

The war is for oil..its one of the ways to make this huge operation worthwhile. People care more about lower gas prices than iraqis anyway.

You're obviously an ignorant conservative. I blame your hill-billy Mom and Dad.
Seems to me that this is mostly an implied diplomatic threat.
Attacking Iran would be a major hassle for the United States, but I don't think it will come to that.
Iran has to look out for herself, and a direct military confrontation with the United States is certainly not in her short- or long-term interests.
@ Omni-blade: Send him a PM, not a post in a completely unrelated thread.
@ the topic: I would have to agree with most people here in stating that it was the right move. It leaves options open in case we need to invade them, but also leaves it open for us to not attack them because our army is stretched too thin. Also, it's a bit of a threat to Iran, possibly causing them to be a little more careful.
As it happens, this topic is eleven months old. So, uh, lock before it becomes even more irrelevant.
