The Rules of Limited.
1.) Be respectful to your fellow clan members. I trust everyone here to be polite to each other and not flame. If you flame someone in this thread or in the draft subforum, it is a boot from limited unless you write the person a sincere apology.
2.) Be respectful to other members of MTG Salvation. You represent [Limited]. Be mindful of that and kind to other clan members and other people on the site.
3.) Keep me from having to make other rules. I trust all of you. Follow the Clan forum guidelines and you should be fine.

I Do Not Have Invite Powers For the MODO Counterpart of the Limited Clan
If you want an invite to the modo side of the clan, PM Pseudofate. If you talk to me, I'll forward the PM to Pseudofate, but it's really just easier to PM him.
To join, simply post below with something to the effect of "I'd like to join." Make sure that it is clear, because if you just write "cool idea!" I won't know whether to add you or not.
Please also post a little something about your experience with limited. It can be your favorite limited format of all time, how you got into limited, what you would like to get out of a limited clan... or all of the above!
New Rule (7/8/2010): Due to an influx of people joining and never posting again, your name will not be added to the member roster until your second post.
If you are already in a clan and would like to be a friend of limited, please post saying so. Make sure to add something about your experiences with limited, as mentioned above.
Thank you, and welcome!

Limited Activities!
Okay, so [Limited] has been meeting up on MODO to draft. The drafts have been trending towards sometime on Sunday, but we usually start discussion towards the weekend about when and what format. Check periodically to see when we might be drafting, and what format. If you want to start a clan draft, simply say so. Pick a format, pick a time. You don't have to be an officer or someone who has run one before.
We usually do swiss, since it gives us the most opportunity to play each other. Before a draft, we all meet up in a chat room called "mtgslimited" inside modo. To enter, just type "/join mtgslimited" in any chat box.
My different Modo nicks are Sene, Akademikarector, Matsmatsmatsmatsmats, NorskeMagic, MBN and Hahahopp, if you want to add those to the "Modo Name List" you have there. I also play on Nordahl, Matsermind, MatsOle, OleTorjus and ssand from time to time.

Lol Geeze Sene. Just had to turn modo into a 60 dollar game?

I'll be sad if people don't start calling The Chain Veil "Fleetwood Mac."
Nice new thread. So, this is the second time I have tried to post a "hey I'm back" post. The first was foiled by my own internet issues. The second I literally just tried to post in the old thread, apparently seconds before the new thread was created. I got a message that said "this thread is no longer accepting new posts. Fun times.
Sene congrats on the top 8. That's really awesome. There is a GP near me in Kansas City in June, after school gets out, that I think I'm going to try to attend. Never been to one before!
I have finally found time to start doing some playing again. It's still not nearly as often as I used to, but still enough now to keep me interested and get me back to the site here.
I haven't had a chance to draft any Beseiged yet (hopefully this Friday). If I don't I might have to play in one of these online prerelease sealed tournaments that is never worth the insane number of tickets they ask for. I think it is safe to say that I am addicted to limited magic, and it probably is a problem. I'm still glad there is a clan of people here who can relate!
Oh and btw, my modo name is also Smellyrebel, if you ever want to add that to the thread.
Yay! I finally got to do the "Slice in Twain a Precursor Golem" thing!
...and on the way to a 3-0 record I really wasn't expecting during the draft (admittedly only Swiss). As far as I can tell I ended up with a just-about-acceptable Infect deck only by forcing the player to my right out of it!
Also caught one opponent badly by surprise by casting Instill Infection after blockers, then profilerating with Throne of Geth sacrificing itself to cause him to lose two artifacts mid-combat and thereby lose metalcraft on his blocking Chrome Steed.
I'm really looking forward to getting to play with Besieged. More Infecty goodness for everyone!

My excitement for MBS has quickly deteriorated. I've been in this horrible funk of the worst Magic I've played in a long while. I think I need to take a break or something as I'm doing so god awful lately that it's almost demoralizing to play games.
Doesn't help that I ended up losing a MBSx4 sealed last night where my opponent had a deck that featured 3x Blightwidow, White Sun Zenith, Inkmoth Well, Bonehoard, Myr Matrix.
On a side note, the most fun I've had since MBS came out was a Mirrodin 1.0 x2, SOM x2 Sealed that we tried after the shop ran out of Faction boosters.
I don't really know what to do at this point. I'm at a point where I am good enough to thoroughly trash all of my friends repeatedly, but I auto-lose to anyone at my LGS that I may play. I need to get better but I can't keep paying for lost Sealed/Drafts.
Havent had the time or money lately to get any limited in. Which sucks and now with my wife and I expecting in Sept, I'm not sure when I'll be able to get back in the saddle.
And holy hell Sene, got enough modo accounts. Wow!

Everyone has their format. MBS is really "turn sidewaysy" for my tastes. There is a lot more room to outplay your opponent than in other fast formats, though. A lot of the combat tricks are legitimate, and equipment and other effects add a lot more to tempo than just racing.
A big problem for me with MBS is that I really didn't want to be poison. I just don't like it. But I could tell after the release that avoiding an archetype was really hurting my play. Since then I've adjusted and I've been doing fine.
I still sigh when I see a blightwidow or something across the table. It's just like "...god I'm going to have to spend so many resources killing that."

Oh, I don't know who here plays EDH, but I wanted to share a fun game with you guys.
Three player free-for-all. My friend Tyler is playing a weird Karona deck with every planeswalker (yes even nissa revane). My friend Kurt (aka Krut, Turk, K-Mart) is playing Geth. And I'm playing Dralnu.
Geth is a terrible matchup for dralnu, and I felt like annoying the geth player a bit. However, the walker player had a nuts draw, and was doing absurd things. He went turn 2 signet, turn 3 JTMS, turn 4 tezzeret, turn 5 ajani vengeant, turn 6 sarkhan vol.
Meanwhile I had a top, but very little action and no outs to a field of walkers. I had a Jace to kill his JTMS if necessary, acquire for something, force of will, and volition reins as my way back in the game.
I tap out for acquire, targeting Superfriends. I look through his deck... my choices are literally his remaining signets, darksteel ingot, rings of brighthearth, and contagion engine. There are no creatures on the field, so contagion engine does nothing.
So what do I do? I take contagion engine, and start playing like a psychopath. I have a plan.
The geth player drops a steel hellkite, an out to the walkers, maybe. Not really, but he thinks it'll live.
The superfriends player untaps, proliferates with a clasp on the field and tries to figure out what to do about the steel hellkite. He has no cards in hand, and tezz can't do anything relevant. Don't ask me why he didn't bounce with jace, but he got greedy and brainstormed instead.
I say "don't worry, I got this," and the Geth player looks at me like I'm insane.
On my turn I play my sixth land and pass. On geth's turn, I boomerang the hellkite and use contagion engine to proliferate all the walkers twice. The superfriends player is stunned and so is the geth player. I'm laughing like crazy like possibly I've just lost it.
Another turn goes by, and the geth player tries to recast steel hellkite. I force of will it, discarding JTMS.
The superfriends player decides to keep me alive because he thought what I was doing was hilarious, and the geth player was close to a rage quit. Play proceeds, another turn goes by, and sarkhan vol ultimates, making a bunch of dragons.
I go "okay, end of turn. Proliferate Jace up to 12." The superfriends player is still grinning because he thinks I'm just doing absolutely random things at this point.
Untap. Confiscate. Ultimate with Jace at the superfriends player.
EDH is a really bizarre format. It's weird when your only out to four or five planeswalkers is to act like you've lost your mind.

Lol Geeze Sene. Just had to turn modo into a 60 dollar game?
Heh, well, I wouldn't say I've spent a fortune, and I made Sene in 2004, Akademikarector in 2007, Hahahopp in 2008, Matsmatsmatsmatsmats in 2009, MBN in 2010 and NorskeMagic in 2011. I can afford to spent 10 bucks a year on that, if it amuses me to have lots of accounts
And whew, I just finished part 1 of my Paris tournament report... in two languages. I wrote the whole thing in both English and Norwegian. I think I'll avoid doing that in the future, but I'll follow through this time.
Also, first person to get the reference in the clan thread title wins a cookie.
Ack, new thread?
I'm guessing it's a reference to some kind of airline announcement.
Did a MBS draft and bombed out horribly because I couldn't hone in on a second color properly. Cutting red (pick 1 Burn the Impure) worked out really well for me though, netting me three Shatters and a Galvanic Blast in the SOM packs.
I don't play EDH, but I've been kicking around the idea of a GLaDOS EDH recently. Clearly Memnarch is the Commander, Doubling Cube is the Companion, and Krark-Clan Ironworks is the Incinerator, but what to do for the cake?

And the thread title is an elton john lyric from the song "Paris."
Nobody left in the airport lounge
They cleaned the ashtrays
TV's just wound down
I've got to wait till morning
I've got to last the night
I've only got one book
To see me through my flight
But when I get to Paris
We'll paint all our portraits
In brush-strokes of yellow
And christen the canvas
The left bank is crying
For colour to crown it
Like the roof of a palace
We'll drink in the amber
When I get to Paris
You were the best of Montmartre Street life
You signed the tablecloth
Art has its price
It's so hard to hold on
To the ghost of your breed
It takes ambition
To call the colours you need
I've got to wait till morning
I've got to last the night
I've only got one book
To see me through the flight

I am pretty curious as to how this would play out. I was playing around with a practice draft when I encountered an interesting predicament in p3p1.
I started off in green and grabbed a couple of Blightwidows in p1, but wasn't really thinking infect. I end up deciding late p1 that infect is open and move into it (already having a Corruptor and two Blightwidows). P2 I'm rewarded with some late corpse curs, then I look at p3.
Carnifex Demon and Foil Contagion Engine are staring back at me. Which would you take? I really had a difficult time deciding this because they're both such bombs. In the end I took the Demon, but I think the Engine might have been better.
Unlucky for me, this was all just practice on some web thing so I couldn't play it out and see how it would have worked.

I far prefer Engine if I'm playing an Infect deck.
For a non-Infect B/X deck it's a close pick and would depend on what the composition of my deck is like in terms of creature curve, removal count and so on. Demon probably wins.

I prefer Engine in almost any situation, honestly. Carnifex Demon is awesome but its effect is symmetrical, it doesn't have an ETB effect (very relevant if your opponent has the removal for it), it puts you into black, and it's not as powerful in Infect. As Bateleur said the Demon might be better in non-infect B/X, but even then I would probably prefer the Engine most of the time. It's like Plague Wind vs Phyrexian Rebirth... Rebirth is awesome, but most of the time I'd rather have Plague Wind.
I think I agree that you usually pick Engine over Demon, where the exception would be slow, controlling black decks with few creatures and lots of removal. If you have that kind of deck, the board normally won't evolve into a stall, which makes Demon a little better. Demon is of course great on stalled boards too, but not as good as Contagion Engine.
Not that it actually matters a whole lot, that pack will only come up once every 5000th draft or something
So I got an email from my shop today that they're drafting MBS/MBS/SOM saturday...
I can't go, because I'm doing a game jam (for those who don't know me, I love my job, and making videogames and doing art usually comes before magic), but I'm disappointed that our store seems to plan on going the duration with MBS-MBS-Scars.
It bums me out, because I really like my shop. The people are relaxed and friendly, the atmosphere is nice... but sometimes they'll do stuff like this where I just don't feel like I'm going to get better at magic.
I'm also starting to feel like I really go against the grain there. They took a poll on the release to see if people in our pod wanted to do BSS or BBS, and I was outvoted 6-to-2 in favor of the fake format. I chalked it up to release party fervor for the new set, but come on... it's been out.
I'm also the only person at the shop who wants to do 1v1 EDH. Everyone else wants four man brawls. Multiplayer should be an every-once-in-a-while silly thing. I don't know how people can tolerate it on a regular basis.
The tough thing is that I really can't switch shops. I mean... I could. But the guy who runs the events and the regulars are basically my playgroup. And are really really awesome people.
Playing with my friends is definitely more important than BSS vs BBS, but... argh, I just wish I could have my way and play the actual sanctioned format with the people who I like. :/

So I can't stay away from sealed, so I reinstalled Magic Online to play in a prerelease sealed. I know they're awful EV, but I can't help myself. Turns out it was more than worth it. Check out the deck I just built. I went Phyrexian, obviously, but I'm not Infect!
Edit: Just finished the tourney, going 3-1. Lost the final round against a good Infect deck, but I was manascrewed in games 1 and 3. Ah well, it was still a blast to play Phyrexian control.
Signalling is like farting: it's a natural thing that helps people avoid being where you are, and if you try to do it deliberately, things turn to crap fast.

I can understand this. I bet for sure my draft (even though i wont be there, more on that later) will be 3xMBS. why? because the people who, and i quote, "Like drafting", are all rare-drafters. They rare-draft for standard and their collections. I don't mind this, because they usually lose if their rares don't cobble a deck together for them. The problem is they are completely adverse to old packs because they don't need them. Plus, our store is small enough to need them to fill the 1 pod. I actually think 3x MBS is a decent small set format, and i do actually need some cards for standard, but i would much rather play what i will on MODO.
The problem simply is, unless you play MTGO, draft is a dead format. All major limited events are sealed, and the minority of players will ever have 3rd/2nd/1st set drafts matter to them. I was hoping the Star City Draft events would spark more interest among my playgroup, but they run the same day as legacy.
In other news, Feb 17th is/was my birthday. I spent it frustrated to heck at borken machines at work. However, Friday and Sunday i get to see my wife in her first named role. My wife is a Opera Singer. She's super excited and i'm excited to see her career start rolling.
Multiplayer should be an every-once-in-a-while silly thing. I don't know how people can tolerate it on a regular basis.
I prefer multiplayer to single player for EDH. Singleplayer EDH feels a bit pointless to me because it's basically just rock/paper/scissors with deck choice. At least it is unless one or both of the players don't own multiple decks, in which case it's something even less interesting.
Multiplayer also helps to smooth out budget differences a bit, which is important for EDH since the deck costs can get absurd.
Ooh, opened a Tez! I suppose that's one way to keep the cost down!

Hm... there are a lot of decks (in my playgroup) that are 50/50 against my best deck. (Dralnu)
Like, Geth is a "bad" match up for me, but it is still winnable. If I can keep geth off the field, it's fine. If I can hinder Geth, I'm set. If for some reason my opponent doesn't tutor for cabal coffers, then I might only have to counter Geth with a regular counterspell.
Zur is rough for me, but it's very 50/50. Oftentimes, the Zur player is just afraid to cast his general against me (I run desertion), and then it just comes down to an absurd UB slugfest where we both tutor for phyrexian arenas and try to push something through counter-magic.
I will admit, I do feel like I'm cheating a bit when I play against any deck without islands. Having a Bribery just... resolve. Or a time warp. Feels so dirty and cheap.
But then I look through Uril and realize that my best bribery target is an enchantress, and the matchup goes back to 50/50.

I'll be sad if people don't start calling The Chain Veil "Fleetwood Mac."
I don't really like the idea of single player EDH, but I haven't really given it much of a shot. I play EDH to remind me of the old days when my LGS was casual and there would just be tables of 8 man FFA games going on all night. I miss those kind of games where you'd have 8 people doing their own thing, then guy 1 sitting on 1 card goes Prosperity for 7 and passes just to have guy next to him go Eureka and have everyone dump hands on the table for some retarded play.
EDH is in my eyes, the bridge that brings me back to Magic playing of my past (unless I manage a god hand turn 2 Braids in a 4+ player game).
I also get frustrated with small set formats at my LGS too. Usually there's never enough to do 8 man drafts so there's always 4 man ones going but they're all MBSx3. I don't really care to do that, and would much rather prefer the actual format so I can at least learn something. I think my biggest complaint about drafting in my shop is that it's winner-take-all. I don't like raredrafting, but I also don't like joining drafts to pay for some dude to walk away with a fistful of mythics.

Yeah, it would be much better to redraft the rares. Winner takes all also encourages everyone to take it way too seriously and increases the risk of cheating and so on. Not good.

We usually play for packs, not the rares, but when we do, we redraft the rares. The winner gets two first picks, but after that it's one pick for each player (in order of final standings). When we do teamdrafts, the winning team walks away with all the rares, and that team needs to figure out a way to distribute the rares between them. Not a problem when I'm playing with my friends and we win, since we practically share cards.
And also, I was starting to get worried that I might not make it to GP London, because of expensive airplane tickets and hotels during that time, but then my friend reminded me that his brother currently lives in London, and he also happens to be a very good friend of mine So it should hopefully not be a problem. He's a retired Magic player, but I might still be able to get him to come to the GP.

Also, first person to get the reference in the clan thread title wins a cookie.
Oh and btw, my modo name is also Smellyrebel, if you ever want to add that to the thread.
...and on the way to a 3-0 record I really wasn't expecting during the draft (admittedly only Swiss).

Wow!
The Family

That's brilliant - I love that story!

I'd say the cake is clearly Mirari.
And the thread title is an elton john lyric from the song "Paris."
Nobody left in the airport lounge
They cleaned the ashtrays
TV's just wound down
I've got to wait till morning
I've got to last the night
I've only got one book
To see me through my flight
But when I get to Paris
We'll paint all our portraits
In brush-strokes of yellow
And christen the canvas
The left bank is crying
For colour to crown it
Like the roof of a palace
We'll drink in the amber
When I get to Paris
You were the best of Montmartre Street life
You signed the tablecloth
Art has its price
It's so hard to hold on
To the ghost of your breed
It takes ambition
To call the colours you need
I've got to wait till morning
I've got to last the night
I've only got one book
To see me through the flight
You should probably remove me from the members sections since I defected to [The Family] a while back.
I still lurk your thread though. I love limited and will probably still play when a good format is around despite being out of Magic.

Not that it actually matters a whole lot, that pack will only come up once every 5000th draft or something

:dance:Fact or Fiction of the [Limited] Clan:dance:
My wife was on MTV with this video.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUutIZg2EpU

Not good.
