Limited is a clan dedicated to the Draft and Sealed format. We recognize that real men (and women) play forty card decks, and enjoy the challenge of building from a smaller pool. We are comfortable gaming the cards nobody else touches, and enjoy facing each day anew.
If you're a fan of draft or sealed, we welcome you to join limited. We are one of the newest clans on the block, so we are definitely recruiting in full swing, and taking all comers. We don't care if you are just learning the ins and outs of the format or are a seasoned pro.

The Rules of Limited.
1.) Be respectful to your fellow clan members. I trust everyone here to be polite to each other and not flame. If you flame someone in this thread or in the draft subforum, it is a boot from limited unless you write the person a sincere apology.
2.) Be respectful to other members of MTG Salvation. You represent [Limited]. Be mindful of that and kind to other clan members and other people on the site.
3.) Keep me from having to make other rules. I trust all of you. Follow the Clan forum guidelines and you should be fine.

I Do Not Have Invite Powers For the MODO Counterpart of the Limited Clan
If you want an invite to the modo side of the clan, PM Pseudofate. If you talk to me, I'll forward the PM to Pseudofate, but it's really just easier to PM him.
To join, simply post below with something to the effect of "I'd like to join." Make sure that it is clear, because if you just write "cool idea!" I won't know whether to add you or not.
Please also post a little something about your experience with limited. It can be your favorite limited format of all time, how you got into limited, what you would like to get out of a limited clan... or all of the above!
New Rule (7/8/2010): Due to an influx of people joining and never posting again, your name will not be added to the member roster until your second post.
If you are already in a clan and would like to be a friend of limited, please post saying so. Make sure to add something about your experiences with limited, as mentioned above.
Thank you, and welcome!

Limited Activities!
Okay, so [Limited] has been meeting up on MODO to draft. The drafts have been trending towards sometime on Sunday, but we usually start discussion towards the weekend about when and what format. Check periodically to see when we might be drafting, and what format.
We usually do swiss, since it gives us the most opportunity to play each other. Before a draft, we all meet up in a chat room called "mtgslimited" inside modo. To enter, just type "/join mtgslimited" in any chat box.
Haven't played anything today, but played an Urza's Saga draft yesterday, where I won every match with maximum 5 minutes left total between me and my opponent. Must have been really annoying for the rest of the players But my deck was just awesome. I had five Runes of Protection maindeck, three Sanctum Custodians, basically infinite defense. On the other hand, my offense included (and was actually limited to) Pestilence, Sleeper Agent and a single Pegasus Charger. I even kept a Rune of Protection: Black and a Disciple of Grace in after board against non-black decks just because of my Pestilence and Sleeper Agent. I backed up the Pestilence plan with a couple of Monk guys that return enchantments from your graveyard to your hand.
I even had a game 1 that took 40 minutes...
Edit: Maybe you should provide a link to the old thread?
Link to old thread! (OK, so maybe it needs to be in the first post too...)
I'm very excited today... Rise of the Eldrazi booster draft is finally coming to MtGO!
See some of you in the queues, I expect!

<Limited Clan>
Not sure about joining a forum clan as I'm still incredibly new here and have yet to see whether or not I'll become a regular. But I would just like to say the following in a thread where it is most appropriate...
Limited. Is. Fricken. AWESOME!
And that's coming from somebody who's only played it twice. However, with a few simple pointers from my roommate I was able to tie for first place in my very first sealed back during RoE pre-release. I'd like to think I would've gotten close with my second sealed deck but due to a long delay I had to drop out halfway through and run a solid mile to re-meter the car before it got towed. ;.;
Anyways my life's story aside I absolutely love the idea of everybody starting on a much more even playing field. No thousand-dollar decks, no playsets of Jace or BSA, no copies of that one deck that went to top-10, just the same selection of cards as everybody else around you and only your skills and a little bit of luck to help guide you to victory.

Me: Yes, just one... Garruk! Garruk! Garruk is on FIRE!

I like this guy. He gets it.
So, we need to get a vote in for the clan contest. Looks like Promatim will have to make our official vote post in the contest thread, so we can discuss our choices here. I nominate Elves of Deep Shadow because it would seem quite logical that an elf accustomed to thick, dark wooded areas would fare quite poorly on the bright, sunlit beach of a deserted island. Therefore, she's out!
It's more that people always overvalue removal. Really, if they make a card ":symb:: Sorcery: As an additional cost, get F'd in the A. Destroy target creature." people will say "removal is removal" and first-pick it.
I hope I get to play the noob who hasn't touched the set yet!
Better watch yourself kid, I'm undefeated at RoE Limited!

I can add you as a "friends of" Limited for the time being, if you like. You're more than welcome to join, regardless of low post count. As long as you are active in this thread, you'll be considered a member.
I know exactly how you feel. I was twelve years old when I started playing magic. I'd open a pack of Mirage, and read every single card. It was the days before the internet (sort of), and I certainly didn't have complete set knowledge. This was also before rarities were printed on cards, so I didn't think about flipping to the back to see my rare. After all, who wants to play with infernal contract when you can cast a sweet Crash of Rhinos.
Now I almost never open packs, and if I end up with random ones, I usually just flip to the back to see what denomination of dollar bill I opened. I was quite jaded for a while, until I started drafting. Now, all of a sudden, I'm reading all the cards, playing with 80% of the cards in the set, instead of just ordering 20 singles from a set and calling it a day.
Tough break about your failed-to-launch second sealed. You should consider making a MTGO account. I know it seems like it'll split your collection between paper and online, but a lot of people use it just to draft.
Anyway, I hope you'll stick around. We're one of the few clans that doesn't care about the year on your join date.
I'll be there for sure. I hope I get to play the noob who hasn't touched the set yet!

Seems reasonable to me.
Also, I apologize for kind of stumbling blindly through the last couple clan contests. The card making one was so confusing. I was going to pass the torch of clan council rep to Starkiller... but I guess they're a Dragon now?
If any regular is really big on the meta-clan world, contests and whatnot, let me know, and perhaps we'll trade off some duties. I enjoy organizing things within this clan, but I'm only partially interested in the contests and all that.
Speaking of our dear retired officer... what do you guys think of a little housecleaning? It would be nice to know how many active members we really have. I don't think we're in danger of getting 'toothed or anything, but we definitely don't really have 40 active members or whatever.
I'm fine with leaving off-and-on posters as active, but I'm thinking it might be time to look through and remove the "I'd like to join!" folks who never came back for a second post.
I want to kind of get a feel for whether that sort of policy is welcome or not, because it's certainly not something we have to do. I don't think we need to be *******'s about good members choosing to spend some time away from Sally, but a light spring cleaning now and then might be a good idea.

I agree with this. I don't want us to be elitist about it, demanding a certain amount of posts per month or something like that, but quite a lot have just posted here once and then left.

Ooh, new set is really fun! I can see myself drafting a lot of this.
Also, I couldn't resist writing up my very first draft for comedy value. Conclusion: I'm really bad, but some people are even worse!

I think I'd like to stay a 'friend of' for now. Alas I'm one of those people who tends to gain genuine interest in a forum/group, remain quite active for a while, and then just disappear. I don't do it to be rude or anything, my interests just move on to the next thing, such is the joys of ADHD.
Sadly as mentioned above I've only played limited twice and considering I stopped playing at Ice Age and picked the game back up at Worldwake I don't think I could comfortably draft anything in that gap without either a long deck construction time or enough notification to really study the expansion in particular and all of its themes and gimmicks. Still, I do have an MTGO account and once I get paid would love to join you folks on some clan drafts if you ever have an open spot.

We all just kind of bum-rush a swiss queue for the clan drafts. We've yet to have eight people who were all Limited. You're welcome to come along.
As for knowing older draft formats... it's interesting when people do, but draft/sealed are very "in the moment." You aren't going to get maltreated here for not having drafted time spiral. Heck, the guy to win our first two Limited drafts (Cardoc) missed out completely on Alara, which is still in standard.
But yeah, I appreciate your honesty. Frankly, "friends of" have basically the same rights as members. They can't be officers, they can't be clan reps, they may have certain limitations in clan contests depending on if they're a full member in another clan. But that's about it. As far as I'm concerned, the people who provide good discussion are the members of this community.
The main reason "friends of" exists is because you can only join one clan on MTGS. It's not my rule, and all I really want in this thread is a good limited community and good discussion. As far as I'm concerned, the good FoL posters who happen to be in other clans, like Jenesis, are more members of the clan than half the people who signed up and never posted again.
Anyway, rant aside, all we're trying to do here is build a good limited community. I don't think anyone here really cares about their official titles and whatnot.

I'll be sad if people don't start calling The Chain Veil "Fleetwood Mac."
Me and a friend joined a sealed swiss event as soon as the server went up, and got this pool:
I don't think it was terribly difficult to build. The colors were in my opinion pretty obvious, so the real choices were what to run and what to cut.
This is a very, very greedy deck. I don't know what else to say, but yeah It's my style, definitely. It was a beauty to play with, and had a ton of synergy. We went 4-0, and 8-0 in games. We pulled out of a couple games where we gave ourselves a less than 5% chance of winning, too. I can share the replays if you're interested, but right now you can watch them in the actual event (#1211868). In one of the games, we managed to bluff our way out of a dead-on-board-situation against an active white invoker.
Then we did an 8-4. My friend pressed on to make us go U/W levelers, while I just wanted to fit as many Mnemonic Walls into my deck as possible. So we did a little of both (urk), with five or six levelers and two Dawnglare Invokers, but then a sweet package of two Deprive, two Narcolepsy, two Regress, See Beyond, Vendetta, Consume the Meek, Puncture Light and THREE Mnemonic Walls! We won the draft, and didn't drop a game in this event either. Pretty nice start to the release events, and I now have a new all-time high rating (on Modo); 1952!
Edit: Wow, I'm now officially a rules advisor! I took a random test over at thedci.com, and suddenly my email got flooded with information from Wizards

Congrats Sene! Now you get to hover over people's shoulders at FNM and ***** at them when they put Staggershock on top of their lib...actually, no, don't do this.
Haven't played much Limited after the Launch. I played a ZZW Swiss with "moral support" where I got Pledge, Rite, Lorthos, and Anthem, then MTGO crashed after round 1. Then I spent my compensation on another Swiss that I somehow managed to win after drafting a very loose U/B/R (yes, that is three capital letters) draft. One game I beat a guy to death with Pilgrim's Eyes.
Random analogy of the day:
Limited is like level up.
-The more you put into it, the more you get out of it.
-It comes with a comparably lower up-front cost, and you pay in installments.
-Then you realize that you spent $140 to get packs/trade fodder/store credit to get that super-awesome rare...when you could have just bought it as a single for $50.
-Because your options are somewhat restricted, people like to say it is "skill testing." (It helps to have a good teacher.)
-There will be times when you feel you aren't making any progress.
-Nevertheless, it is awesome.
EDIT: locifer: Well, that's certainly one reason to maindeck crab umbra!
Has anyone here ever done Two-Headed Sealed? How was it? How greedy can you get?

Congrats! Could you do all of us deathtouch-lovers a favor and remind everybody you see that DT means I can assign a single damage to any number of blockers up to the DTer's power and they'll all die? Dunno how many times at FNM my Turntimber Basilisk has been called into question when I did that.

I agree; titles are just titles, it's what a person contributes and learns that really matters. I promise I will try to stick around this time as you all seem like a really wonderful bunch and Masumaro-only-knows I could use plenty of help and advice when it comes to knowing more about the relative worth of cards in limited.

Incidentally, one of the test's questions involved just that. I don't think I am supposed to reveal the question in its entirety, since it appears that the "exam" questions are confidential.
And yes, you can do that

I'd say such practices are fine at FNM level
Edit: I just won a game where I was manascrewed, and my opponent went Ulamog's Crusher. I Spawn Breathed him so I had enough to make an Emrakul's Hatcher if I topdecked a land (I had no removal for the Eldrazi). I got there, and topped a land the next turn also, so I made another one. So the turn after that, I had enough mana to go Flame Slash, sacrifice all my spawns, Mnemonic Wall, and Flame Slash it again And I won from there. I thought that was pretty amazing.

Epic win!
The big problem I have in this format so far is that I like Blue for aggro and Blue for control. I don't really know what to do if I can't get Blue other than be a little bit sad.

This is so awesome, you have no idea. My deck (midway through 3rd booster) is broken beyond belief, it might be the hottest deck I have ever drafted, not even slightly exaggarated. Just wait until I post it, you will agree. It is SICK SICK SICK!

Now explain how I lose.
Edit: I won the first round, despite him resolving Kozilek while I was manascrewed (and comprehensively so, in neither of the games did I see a fourth land before turn 11 despite lots of draw effects) both games.

Welcome to Limited!

Past Threads
Life Begins at 40
Haven't played anything today, but played an Urza's Saga draft yesterday, where I won every match with maximum 5 minutes left total between me and my opponent.
I'm very excited today... Rise of the Eldrazi booster draft is finally coming to MtGO!
See some of you in the queues, I expect!

Oh, I suppose I should've done that...
Thanks Bates
Limited. Is. Fricken. AWESOME!
And that's coming from somebody who's only played it twice. However, with a few simple pointers from my roommate I was able to tie for first place in my very first sealed back during RoE pre-release. I'd like to think I would've gotten close with my second sealed deck but due to a long delay I had to drop out halfway through and run a solid mile to re-meter the car before it got towed. ;.;
I'll be there for sure. I hope I get to play the noob who hasn't touched the set yet!

You've forced allies every RoE draft you've played, too.
I agree with this. I don't want us to be elitist about it, demanding a certain amount of posts per month or something like that, but quite a lot have just posted here once and then left.
You bet! I've been constantly refreshing the server status thing on Wizards, I'm so ready!
Edit: ...and up!
Aw, man! I have to be at work for another 4 hours before I get to draft. Not fair.

I've got you beat. Gotta work for a few more hours, go home, and work.
Good times...

Me: Yes, just one... Garruk! Garruk! Garruk is on FIRE!
I've been that noob for ROE...and I went 2-1
Quotes in blog.
Apparently if you run trip narcolepsy your deck folds to the person playing double crab umbra...

Me: Yes, just one... Garruk! Garruk! Garruk is on FIRE!
I agree; titles are just titles, it's what a person contributes and learns that really matters. I promise I will try to stick around this time as you all seem like a really wonderful bunch and Masumaro-only-knows I could use plenty of help and advice when it comes to knowing more about the relative worth of cards in limited.
Me: Yes, just one... Garruk! Garruk! Garruk is on FIRE!

Now explain to me how this is different from any other limited format. Except Zendikar
Draft I am in, screenshot 1:
Screenshot 2:
This is so awesome, you have no idea. My deck (midway through 3rd booster) is broken beyond belief, it might be the hottest deck I have ever drafted, not even slightly exaggarated. Just wait until I post it, you will agree. It is SICK SICK SICK!
Edit, here goes. Behold:
Now explain how I lose.
Edit: I won the first round, despite him resolving Kozilek while I was manascrewed (and comprehensively so, in neither of the games did I see a fourth land before turn 11 despite lots of draw effects) both games.
I want to know how many mnemonic walls you returned in one game. Haha.
That deck looks sick.
