Clan Contest 3 is going to be a deck auction for the decks used in CC#2. Bids will be made in life total and cards in hand to win the deck you will then play with that life total/cards in hand at the start of each match in an MWS tourney. The winner of this contest is the clan that does the best in the MWS tournament, so bid wisely! Signups will close at or about next Monday as it becomes Tuesday EST.
Sure, stuff like Snapping Drake and Goblin Piker are for limited. But Null isn't even playable against a 5 year old whose hand consists of a 6 of Clubs, Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Chimney Imp, and a very large cumquat.
1. ARD is signing up
2. Dragoon26 is our main bidder
3. I will act as backup bidder until further notice.
And I'd also like to say that clans that participated in CC#2 should probably get priority over clans that didn't since it was those 13 that made the decks.
A few questions, that you can either answer now, or address when you put up some sort of official CC3 rules synopsis:
-How many bids can each bidder make (i.e. is "I bid no negative cards in hand, no negative life total on each deck" a legal action?)
-Once a bidder has bid, is that bidder then free to counterbid?
-If so, when is the deadline for all counterbids?
Basic Rules
1) No Editing your posts. You cannot change your mind about a bid.
2) No Double Posting. Bid well the first time. You cannot underbid yourself; you must wait for someone else to bid first if you want to bid again.
3) No deleting your posts. You can't change your mind about a bid later. The only exception to this rule is that you may delete a post that contains an invalid bid because of being underbid while you were posting. Mods will be checking deleted posts to make sure they are only invalid bids.
4) To reiterate: you may delete a post that has been underbid and therefore is an invalid bid.
Auction Setup
1) Each deck will have a 24 hour bidding period, started when I officially start the round. The clock starts based on the timestamp of the post where I announce the round is started.
2) The lowest legal bid at the end of the round (24 hours after the starting post) will win the deck. I will declare the winner and start a new round.
3) The new round's clock starts when I make the post declaring so, and may not be exactly the same start and finish time as the previous round.
4) Each round a particular clan bids first. That clan has 8 hours to select a deck and make a legal bid for it. If they do so, that is the deck up for auction.
5) If that clan does not make a legal bid within 8 hours from the start of the round, a deck noted ahead of time in the start of the round will be put up for auction instead and that clan loses its turn effectively. They may still bid as normal but do not get another chance to bid first and pick which deck goes up for auction.
Example: When I post starting the round, I will say which clan won the previous round, which clan gets first bid, and which deck is the default if there is no first bid within 8 hours. That post will spell out the deadlines, which are based on the time of the post. If the time of the post is 11:14AM EST, then the first bid must have a timestamp of 7:14PM EST or sooner. Once it is 7:15PM EST, the default deck is up for auction and that clan lost its turn if it hasn't posted yet. If it has posted, everyone can jump in as soon as that happens and bid away. Then, the round closes 24 hours after the original time, which would be 11:15 the next day. So any posts that are timestamped 11:15 are too late and do not count. The last lowest legal bid wins, which I will declare and start a new round.
How to bid 1) Bidding starts at [25 Life, 8 Cards]. That is the highest legal bid.
2) A lower bid is one with fewer cards in hand or less life. One card in hand less is greater than any difference in life. Thus [7 cards/25 life] is a lower bid than [8 cards/1 life].
3) When going down one or more cards in a bid, you may bid as much as 25 life again. Thus, a bid of [7 cards/25 life] is a legal bid to follow up a previous bid of [8 cards/13 life].
4) When you bid, please post three things as follows: {Clanname} bids {X cards/X life} for {Deckname}
This is for clarity's sake so it's clear to everyone who you're bidding for, what the bid is and that you know which deck you are bidding for.
Who may bid and When
1) Each clan may have a bidder and a backup bidder. The backup bidder and bidder have identical powers to bid. Essentially they are treated as the same person, so they cannot underbid each other. They must wait for another clan to bid. Clans do not need backup bidders.
2) If you are not a bidder or backup bidder you cannot make a bid.
3) If your clan has won a deck, you cannot make a bid.
4) If the clan who gets first pick has not bid yet, you cannot make a bid (unless you are a bidder or backup bidder from that clan.) The window to make the first bid is 8 hours after the post that starts the round.
5) If the we run out of players in the bid order, the remaining players will be randomly given a new bid order. (This is unlikely to happen.)
6) The auction is complete when there is only one clan remaining in the bid order, they get the remaining deck with 8 cards/25 life.
It's rianalnn, how hard is that to see? Wee, pedantics. I'm sure you can see how your post was somewhat ambiguous.
wamyc, can you clarify - we're allowed to bid again in any single auction only if someone else underbids us?
Also, let me make sure I have this straight - you'll open an auction, which will then automatically close 24 hours later, yes?
Lastly, are you random.orging the bid list?

You can only bid if another clan has made a legal bid since your last bid. This means that you can't underbid yourself directly. You can underbid yourself in the sense that you can bid again to underbid someone else even if you have already bid once on that deck. So the bidding can go back and forth as long as people aren't bidding twice in a row.
Yes, I will open the auction and the timestamp on my post will serve as a marker for when the contest will automatically close 24 hours later.
And yes, I am randomly ordering the list of who gets first bid, with the exception of 499, winners of the last contest.
That fills all the slots. Look at what I have and make sure it's correct. I realize I have not listed your names exactly, but if there are any other mistakes or concerns please let me know.
Also, if the Dimir, Clan Mono-Blue or The Pack would like to use a backup bidder, please select one by the end of day Tuesday. So you have until it becomes Wednesday (12:00AM Midnight) EST to pick a backup bidder if you would like to.

Above is the bid order for the clans the get to pick the deck for each day. Keep in mind that 499 goes first, so they were not on the list to be randomly ordered. Please check in here 499 or PM to let me know you are good to go. We are going to give a day to the clans to correct and finalize their bidders (All changes are due by the end of Tuesday, EST) and then we will be starting the bidding on Wednesday.
Please review the rules, update your bidders, make your strategies and ask your questions. We are starting the bidding on Wednesday in the early afternoon, EST, so get these things cleared up now before we start.
Yay! We are teh seconds Wednesday, early afternoon? Can you make it noon EST to also accomodate those from Europe?
I think early afternoon is good for everyone. I have to choose a time that is decent for most people when the contest ends, which is the most important time of the bidding process. And Europe is 5-6 hours later than EST, meaning eveningtime. That's prime time to be online here, so if anything europe has an advantage and this would be tough for the Oceanians and Asians. Also, keep in mind that the contest times will tend to get a little later each day as I am not going to be online exactly at every deadline. They can't get earlier so they will tend to get later by varying amounts.
Also, I am thinking maybe there's some confusion. You do not have to bid in any particular order. If you think that, please read the rules. As soon as 499 has made a (legal) bid on Wednesday, you are all free to bid in any order. The bid order listed in my previous post is only to set up which clans get the first pick on which days.
EDIT: Please also keep the following facts in mind that may not occur to you immediately.
If a clan wins a deck, they are taken out of the rotation for clans that get first pick. This means you may get to have first pick sooner than you expect if someone ahead of you wins a deck.
You do not know which decks will be up for auction until the clan whose turn it is makes their first bid. So plan to check each day in case your favorite deck gets selected.
Also, if the Dimir, Clan Mono-Blue or The Pack would like to use a backup bidder, please select one by the end of day Tuesday. So you have until it becomes Wednesday (12:00AM Midnight) EST to pick a backup bidder if you would like to.

Are the bidders that are not Clan Representatives allowed to post in this thread at this moment?
I have no problem with non reps posting here now as long as they are bidders or backup bidders. You guys are the ones who have to do the bidding so it is your questions and commments I am interested in. Just don't post in the clan council as that is for clan reps only.
I am going to check with the mods however, as this is kind of a rules question.
