Now recruiting for a brand new clan, "The Princes of Pauper." We are a rag-tag group of impoverished plainswalkers, weak and impecunious. We are only able to cast the most feeble of spells. But we have a darn good time doing it! What we lack in spellcraft, we more than make up in plucky wit and rougish good looks.
We are champions of the common man's Magic and horders of ancient spells of unbalanced power.
We also play T2, but here, the motto stands: "We don't take no Jitte!"
What is Pauper Magic?
Don't be fooled! There are two variant formats of Magic play that start with 'P.' Here, we're mainly concerned with PAUPER, which is ALL COMMONS, ALL THE TIME.
For the record:
Peasant: All commons, 5 uncommons allowed. PAUPER: All commons, NO UNCOMMONS, NO RARES.
From the article "Poor IntoTheAether" by Jay Moldenhauer-Salazar:
"In Pauper Magic, you can build any sixty-card deck you want... provided you only use commons. For Magic Online, the accepted rules of Pauper are that all commons are legal (except, sometimes, Cranial Plating). Uncommons that have online common equivalents, like the Circles of Protection, Chromatic Sphere, and Stream of Life, are legal. Uncommons that have common equivalents before Invasion, however, are illegal."
If a card has ever been printed as a common, it is legal for Paper Pauper Magic. The only exceptions are as follows:
1. Polyjak, Tutor of the Tattered and Torn, Co-Creator and Chairman
Real Name: Jack Location: Kalamazoo, MI, USA AIM: Rhinopede MTGO/MWS Nick: Polyjak Currently playing: Neo-WW/r (T2), R/G Ponza (T2), W MWC (Pauper) Anything to add: "Note to self: don't forget about Repulse"

Friends:
EVERYONE is welcome to post on our thread! Since very few of our "friends" actively post, this will be the last clan thread with a "friends" list. We will instead have a "guest" list which will include posters like Aisling Leprechaun, Master of Darkness, and Birger, who advance the discussions in our clan. Everyone else is welcome to post as well, but will not be officially listed as "guests" unless they have a noticable presence in the clan thread.

I'm wondering if the warhammer is a good choice for 2 uncommons slots. Granted, it will wreck house once equipped but in what I usually assume will be an aggro field (correct me if I'm wrong) it seems a bit slow. 4 copies of bonesplitter seems strong enough then you'll free up 2 uncommons slots for boros swiftblade. Perhaps in place of 2 veteran armorer. Just a thought...
Aha! A new thread! Well, no tournament last night, but i2D_NoFX, MasterBeeble, a friend of MB's, and I played a few games. I played SuiBlack, and went into a rematch with i2D's Goblins. The first game was another close one, but he ended it with a Goblin Grenade. The second game echoed the first match we played, as my evasion creatures were too much. The final game saw the Goblins come out to a quick lead, but SuiBlack was able to stabilize and take the win. SuiBlack beat Goblins 2-1.
Meanwhile, MasterB was running G/B Reanimator against his friend Adam's Zombies. They had some connection problems but, from what I could tell, Reanimator took game one, Zombies came back in game two, and the final game saw too many disconnects to continue.
So, I played a single game against MasterB's Reanimator deck. Duress and Hymn to Tourach knocked out some key cards before the deck could really get going, and the evasion creatures took it from there. After MB left, I played his friend Adam in a quick game. Adam got a bunch of Zombies ou, and started cycling Gempalm Polluters, knocking my life down, However, my assault was on and when he tried to block in order to stall for one last turn, Last Gasp removed his blocker and led to lethal damage.
My SuiBlack deck, after making many changes (including the removal of cycling lands ), ended yesterday 5-3 in games. Here is the current list:
I like the reanimator idea, B/U with plenty of discard outlets and exhume. The only problem with exhume is that the removal/counters you use on your opponent gives them a creature back when you cast it. Kind of a counter control angle with graveyard removal and big hitters would be a fun deck. Perhaps it's time to build one...
Interesting. I would try to fit some more Dauthi in there, maybe for the Dross Golem.
I think that too much Shadow is not a good idea. Yeah, they can't be blocked, but they can't block either. The golem can come down for cheap and be a powerful blocker as well.
hmm, we're getting pretty inactive at our posting... i guess it's because everyone is busy rite now, but once everyone has the time, let's schedule a tourney (MWS).

Sounds good to me. Sometime next week, after the holiday weekend, hopefully everyone can make time to do something :-).
EDIT: Oh, and i2D, please get your AIM to work again. Or some kind of messenger. It is so much harder to organize via PMs ;).
I thought the thread was far more active than usual... but then again, "usual" is referring to when it first started and no one posted on it.
Some of you haven't yet filled out the "mini bio" form that MasterBeeble created. You can see the questions for it on the first post of this thread... if you wish, answer those questions in a post or a PM to me, and I'll make a little spoiler for you. I'm looking at akmage, FoilPhob, and i2D mainly. (Alfred said he'd prefer to abstain, and I can get the info from Action Man and Anaranjado in person.)
I am slowly but surely assembling all the cards to make my MWC pauper deck in real time. I still need 2 Steel Wall, 2 Ethereal Haze, and some other stuff I can't think of off the top of my head.
Also, I found my 4th Jitte and my 4th Char today, so my WW/r deck is happy. Hopefully I do better than 3-1 this Friday and bring home some $$$ to help feed my addiction!
Sorry I haven't been around more... a lot of my Magic-playing friends are back from school, not to mention my long-distance girlfriend. Between them my play time is pretty well used-up. But I'll try and get in some MWS games with those of you (Eegag) who can't play once the next semester starts.
If you're on a time limit, make sure to PM or IM each other and try and get in some games. And, of course, post here about the matchups!
It's up to the clan, but I think we pretty much already decided it's too early, we're still in our formative stage, and we should just start strong in 2006. If there's enough positive energy, though, let's by all means participate in the clan contest.
Wow, no posts today. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to post either. There are so many friends and family in town and there is so much going on this weekend ... But I just wanted to let the clan know that I'm not gone, and I'll be back after this weekend!
Indeed, the holidays have hit with avengence for all. Then again, some of the clan members have been seeing each other in person as we are all back for the holidays.
I'm not a fan of Pouncing Jaguar, since it stops second turn Mongrel or Werebear. Like I said before, Jungle Lion is better.
Werebear doesn't seem to fit well in the deck, it looks like it's going to take too long to get bigger. Maybe something like Rogue Elephant would be better if you keep Pouncing Jaguar.
I'm interested in joining as I think the format is really cool, and I've always thought that Polyjak is a quality poster. I've wanted to break into legacy/extended, but havn't decided that I want to make the investment, and I think that pauper will give me a feel for it to see whether or not I'd like to do it. I've also been looking for people to play on apprentice with and this clan would also satisfy that. So anyway I hope I'm welcome, I'm gonna try to get some deck lists up by monday as I build some stuff.
Jlo, Veserius, I'm feeling generous on this 25th of December 2005.... welcome to the Princes of Pauper! PM me your pauperly titles and any personal information you want stored in a spoiler, and you're good to go!
EDIT: Last night I went to my girlfriend's family's Christmas celebration, and I felt obligated to drink myself into sociability. Anyway, when I finally got back to my own parents' house around 3 am, I was nursing a horrible headache, which over the course of the "night" became a pseudo-migrane. Anyway, for the few hours of actual sleep I got between then and now, I had a dream... and in this dream, I had access to a bunch of cards from Guildpact (man, am I a nerd or what? ;)) I learned the names of the duals, but the only one I can remember is "Izzet Academy" ... and obviously that's wrong because the duals aren't named like that. Ah, the fuzzy logic of dreams!
Anybody have any Magic-related gift exchange stories to share? My friend (Interpol) bought himself a Ravnica fatpack and got a ton of jank, but did end up with the elusive Loxodon Hierarch. However, since he rocks the WW/r deck, the elephant is not as useful. (He was hoping for a Sacred Foundry, naturally.)

Also @ Master of Darkness: Rally the Righteous might not be a bad call, either. You are running both the Thundersong Trumpeter and Skyknight Legionnaire and with the suggestion of adding Boros Swiftblade that would give you a few R/W guys to utilize. Just something that popped into my head.

4 Pouncing Jaguar
4 Raging Goblin

This deck needs more meat!
Werebear doesn't seem to fit well in the deck, it looks like it's going to take too long to get bigger. Maybe something like Rogue Elephant would be better if you keep Pouncing Jaguar.
Otherwise, nice deck!

He one of the first cards i have =D
So he stays in lol...
I like the concept of
1st turn : Skyshroud Ridgeback
2nd turn : Rancor + Growth it
Taken 7 Lols
By the way is the fat pack worth it? IMO the only thing nice is the box lol
