Please note this contest was themed. Please vote not only according to the intrinsic value of the stories, but on how well they fit the theme:
Elizabeth Bishop had a lovely poem about loss called "One Art", which you can read here: http://www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/15212. The poem explores lost hope, memory, and love in an elegant little package. Why should you care? Your mission is to write a story of loss in an elegant little package. A lost mind, loved one, or anything else at all. Summed up in 500 words. Good luck.
Only three? That makes a tough call that much tougher. My apolgies to Alx2 and trattman, whose stories I really enjoyed. But I am giving my votes to turnipsong, Sam, and Danny.
It is absolutely criminal that turnip_song is not winning this contest. Criminal.
You people should seriously all go to jail.
AoK, I'm noticing your stories getting better - but you're still quite obviously constrained by the format you're choosing to be in.
So, my votes: turnip_song, because it's the best story here: not me, because I can't vote for myself: Primetime and a Cancelled Show, because it's ... just ... interesting. And. Err. Past that it kind of falls into a void there. I guess the third best one is Danny's, so there we go.

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
my mouth is full of winsome lies -
and eyes are full of death besides
but luckily the soul is wise -
it sees beyond my blindness and
forced failure makes a better guise,
so as i come again alive,
it feels like life's a decent plan
Daivos - although you don't say he's a monkey, we all know Curious George is monkey... correct assumption? Anyway, I like the idea of a monkey observing a group of magic players and thinking that they needed baths. Cracked me up - thanks.
Alx2 - Batteries made me think... and feel. Thank you.
Without further ado, here are the nominees:
1. Curious George Goes To The Comic Shop, by daivos
2. Goodbye Master, by Danny
