2012 Pauper Power Rankings!!
Third time's the charm.
We Need Every Last One Of You!
Post your Top 20s, people! We want as many as we can to get a better average for the final list. Every list helps!
This thread is for the voting and discussion for Top 20s being collected currently. If a final list has already been produced for a section, please discuss it over at the Results Thread.
How To Do It.
Following the schedule at the bottom of this post, we will go through each section at a time. For the current section being voted on, post your top 20 cards for that section of the cube, based on the order you would pick them in a P1P1 situation in a normal 8-man booster draft.
At the end of each period of voting, I will collect lists and perform my analysis on it. This involves assigning points to each card (20 for 1st place, 19 for 2nd, etc.) and then taking averages. The top 20 of the final order of cards becomes the official Rankings List for that section this year. If you post multiple lists, I will take the one from your latest post.
An example of how to format your list can be like so:
If possible, please stick to this formatting. Most important, use "01" instead of "1" for your list. It makes it much easier on my part to process the lists.
Things To Remember!
Cards eligible for this project include cards that used to be uncommon but were later printed at common, like Act of Treason, and cards that were once common but later printed at uncommon, such as River Boa.
Cards that are only common in Masters Edition are ineligible, by the logic that they have never been physically printed as commons.
Cards such as Porcelain Legionnaire and Tangle Hulk are considered white and green respectively. The rule is that the best color combination for the card is where it belongs, so Jilt in UR and Slash Panther in red. If you post a card that is in the wrong section by these conventions, the entry in your list will be discounted. If you see someone else with an incorrect card in their list, please correct them in this thread.
The Schedule.
Each section will be given 3-4 days for lists to come in, and we will complete 2 sections every week. The first section will be given a week to let people acclimate to the project, as will the final section because it has the largest card pool. The deadlines will be Wednesdays and Sundays. Extensions can be given if I feel there aren't enough lists, but hopefully that won't happen.
White (Sunday, 7th of October)
Blue (Saturday, 13th of October) Black (Saturday, 20st of October) Red (Saturday, 27th of October) Green (Saturday, 3rd of November)
Colorless (Saturday, 10th of November) Multicolor (Saturday, 17th of November) Lands (Saturday, 24th of November) Overall (Saturday, 1st of December)
White removal is very dense and it's hard to split Pacifism/Temporal Isolation/Journey to Nowhere, but they're all very quality. Faith's Fetters is so high quality for the extra mana in tempo races, but I think Arrest can often be overpriced when compared to the two mana removal (though still excellent).
Guardian, Cenn's, and Troubled Healer all end games against many decks single-handedly. Troubled Healer is ineffective against black or blue based decks, but red and green run into big problems when you shut off all of their removal. In contrast, Cenn's is best against grinding control as it is impossible to discard or permanently shut off.
Role-filling aggro creatures like Soltari Trooper and Steppe Lynx do make white tick, and it's a mistake to ignore them for splashier cards. Deftblade Elite trades up, and Kitsune Blademaster is usually unblockable 2 damage each turn or a 3/3 First Strike on defense.
I generally value Creatures higher than spells in white, unless it's a "bomb" in the case of Journey/O.Ring, where it just clears out a big threat/makes my attacks more profitable.
***I traded for a foil Azorius Arrester this past weekend, but I wasn't sure if I could put it in my list. If so, then please exchange Azorius Arrester with Kor Hookmaster. Thank you. ***
I was surprised that I rated Journey to Nowhere/Oblivion Ring/Pacifism so low. The power level of pauper has become so flat that nearly all of these could be top 3 picks for white in our cube.
ie. I take Porcelain Legionnaire even higher than everyone else A lot of the time I'll actually take it over fetters because of it also being really good in red decks - that's the main reason I put it above guardian.
I've also changed the schedule so that each section gets a week now. I've shifted the due dates to Saturday because of personal reasons (all October Sundays are all booked up for me.)
My U rankings have probably been influenced the most by my recent uprising of Ux tempo decks. I used to play Capsize in every deck I could, but it's become less impressive to me which has been overtaken by Flood, a one drop which has consistently won the game or drawn copious amounts of hate. There are a surprising amount of creatures in my top 20, which just goes to show that there's more to blue than just strong spells.
A few things about Blue. In my cube I play Impulse as written (with the shuffle effect) so that might skew my results, but it really makes it one of the best blue cards ever printed, hence the high pick.

Disenchant and Kor Sanctifiers are always maindeckable as your catch-all answer to weird problems like Flood or Gravedigger/Tortured Existence, as well as dealing with a large amount of enchantment removal or important artifacts like Porcelain Legionnaire or Bonesplitter.
