Welcome to my campaign, if you can figure out where you are please say it out loud (In OOC ofcourse :p), and if you think you know whats to happen, wipe that smirk out of your face, you have no idea what trials I have in store for you all
For many the day started out as nothing special.
For the Orviant Brothers life seemed simple, a life of Honor and Chivalry, where evil is easily defined, and where the glories of the Battlefield are also no more than a ten day away.
For Kilya, the hunted and often solitary drow, life was a game of cat and mouse, where her constant survival depended upon being good, good enough to fight whatever came her way, and good enough to escape notice from her House, and although it had been many years since any signs of open pursuit she knows Drow patience knows now bounds when carrying out a grudge.
For a certain Homeless Dwarf life is a matter of survival, together with a Boar he hunts and survives and continues his existance, no real motives apparent, no real interest give, his path determined by the wondering whims of his only friend... a boar.
For a brash Dragonborn life begins and ends in his blades, the clan of Thornhelm has rarely seen one of such skill as Karr, yet his motives remain a mystery, rarely does he share, and when he does it usually involves sharing the steel of his blades.
And finally we have Ravelm, whose prowess in battle is unmatched, his skills and axe a symbol to fear and a sign that things are at an end.
Indeed for many the day started out as nothing special, but these people are nothing but special.
As the day reached high sun a strange sight took place, insidious Mist began to swirl around them, Mist like none they have ever seen, Magic sparked everywhere and sighs both from events past and events to be seemed to appear in the mist, too fast for the mortal eye to follow, to unbelievable for the mortal mind to decipher, Thicker and thicker the Mist grew, enveloping each in a cocoon of milky whiteness, no sound could be heard, no sensation felt, it was as if existence had ceased to be and nothing else existed.
As soon as the Mist began it disappeared, the sun no longer shines, the sun no longer exists, for you are all inside a building, a great hall where no light other than the bluish glow of magicked candles and torches exist, the room is eerie and cold but you can see each other, for the first time, you can tell the others just went through the same experience as you did, the confused look in their faces is a dead giveaway.
What could this mean? Where are you? Who are these people standing here? and what is the meaning of the Mist that brought you here?
All these questions and more course through each of your minds as you stand here.
Kilya, when noticing the strange Mist around her, stands confused, but wanting, whatever kind of arcane power was at work here, to know what it was. And so she arrived in the hall eyes closed, trying to decipher the magical effects of the mist around her, other things would come second.
Balasar wondered in amazement at his surroundings. Turning to his brother, he said in Draconic, his favored language, "Where in the Seven Heavens are we?"
Agrek jumped as he saw he was in the room, no longer heading out to hunt. The first thing he did was pull his axe off his back and second looked to his side for the boar. He made a motion of pushing some invisible force downward with his hand, his signal to wait, which the boar read and obeyed.

Kagarr shifted around, trying to take in his surroundings, and the new creatures around him. "I do not know, Ba—brother," he replies in Draconic. He remembers the wisdom of never letting potential enemies know more than they need to just in time; he had just seen another, unfamiliar, Dragonborn. He places his hand on his sword hilt, but does not draw it.
As the mist starts swirling around him, Karr stands almost completely still. His hand instinctively fly to his swords, but he does not draw them. As the mist subsides, his hands remain where they are, knowing full well he is capable of drawing his weapons and slashing in one fluid motion.
He looks carefully at the others. Seeing two other Dragonborns, he relaxes his muscles slightly in the hopes that they can at least talk, but he does not actually shift position. Karr glances around the room for a moment, trying to find something to tell him where he is.

"By the looks on your faces I can only assume that the rest of you are in the same predicament as I," the dragonborn starts. "So I believe it would be best to start politely." He does not move his hands away from his swords, yet he sounds very sincere in his comments. "I am Karr Thornhelm, Ranger and Stormwarden."
"Agrek," the dwarf says bruskly, peering over the blade of his axe at the others. "I don't know nothin' about this mist an' such, but I wan' it explained now." He commands everyone, yet expects no answer back. The boar turns its snout up at him in alarm for the sudden rise of his voice.

I'll bet you wish you had a non-unglued/unhinged card that shared your first name.
Landil: The Mist is magical in nature, that much is clear, what kind of magic you are not completely sure, it seems like a blend of sources, theres definitely the feel of arcane magic, however you can detect Primal even Elemental components and theres definitely influence from Shadow power, most boggling is the slight divine tinge you feel, almost as if Transportation is but a mere feature of the Mist and not its overall purpose. Your insight tells you this Mist is the result of world changing powers, powers the like of which you wouldnt even want to consider touching.
Krashbot: You find some food in a platter resting in a table nearby, it looks fresh so you know you are being expected, theres also wine and several goblets. You notice nothing else remarkable, but thats plainly because your attention seems to always divert towards the blue glow of the candles and torches.
oh and theres a total of 4 Dragonborns 1 Dwarf and 1 Drow standing in the hall (You included)
"Explain the Mist? child it would be easier to explain the meaning of life than to explain the Mist" says a voice from the far side of the hall, from out of the darkness (for the glow seems to be designed to obscure certain areas) a tall man comes out, his face is strong, his features sharp, his eyes carry an unmistakable glimmer of power. He is dressed in what appears to be regal yet battle ready clothing, a blade strapped comfortably and expertly to his side, with a polite bow he addresses you all "I am Lord Vasili Von Holst, I handle matters of this Realm on behalf of its Lord, I bid you all welcome, please partake of the food in the table we have much to talk about, and i fear a meal will not present itself during the course of our talks"

Call me old fashioned, but an evil ascension to power just isn't the same without someone chanting faux Latin in the background.
Oreo, Glazing people better than Dunkin' Donuts since 2009
That is not dead which can eternal lie. And with strange eons even death may die.
Lord Vasili chuckles as he hears Agreks comment "Many have said those very same words to me over the years, you would be surprised at how few of them where proven wrong"
That said he takes a seat and begins his tale "Tell me, what do you guys know of Kashival, Shar, the Raven Queen and Kelemvor?"
you guys know the basic information regarding the last three, no one has any idea who the hell this Kashival guy is. You can quote PHB, FRPG or just your insane FR knowledge if you want, but keep it simple, only those trained in Religion get a chance to show off right now

Ravelm had taken in the scene in quiet astonishment. It was neither fear nor anxiety that shut his mouth, it was eagerness and pride. He could feel within his bones the adventure he was about to undertake. The motivations of their host was a mystery to him, but he couldn't care less. His training and battles had made him confident and haughty, ready to take on any challenge. Whither Lord Vasili was friend or foe didn't change the fact that he was about to get the chance to prove himself.
"Nothing." he spoke in Draconic, hoping to figure out if the language registered on the ears of the Lord. "Nothing at all."
Despite the probing nature of his answer, he spoke with a smile, and as courteously as he spoke he sat next to Agrek. Ravelm's attention wasn't on the food however, it was focused on Lord Vasili.
Kagarr walked over to the table, and gave a respectful half-nod half-bow. However, he remained standing behind a chair. "I assume that you summoned us here for a job related to those four," he says to Vasili.
"Then listen carefully Ravelm, for you are about to learn about things few ever learn, or ever want to" he says in perfect common, the accent is a bit strange, it sounds like ancient or archaic.
Looking towards Kagarr he nods "Indeed they are all connected, and the chances of your success increase the more about them you know and the more about them you understand, but theres something you err on, I didnt summon you, my Lord did, he controls the Mists and only with his permission can anyone leave, please remember that, it might just save your lifes."
He then looks at the others "Do any of you wish to venture a guess?"

Kagarr shrugs, and takes a seat. He keeps his hand resting gently on his sword hilt, but much more relaxed. "Am I correct in assuming, that the latter three are deities, Kashival is himself a deity?" he asks.
"You would be half correct, Kashival was a deity, from a time so long ago that only one race and me know of his existence, He was banished, if you can believe such a thing possible, to where no one knows, some say he is imprisoned and that said prison can exist outside any known reality barring him from accessing his power, others believe he wasnt banished but rather destroyed.
Be as it may, Kashival was quite the crafter, he was able to craft items and relics of untold power, he was such a crafter that other deities used to ask him for favors when it came to items for their faithful" Vasili takes a pause here as he stares at each of you "Of course Kelemvor is rather new to the realms of gods, however with his domain comes the knowledge of ages and so he inherited the knowledge an artifacts of the previous keeper of the dead, i hear he was quite a fellow but i digress, There is one item, one from a thousand, that held power beyond any, it was an orb, a pearl sized orb gifted to one of Kashival's faithfuls, it is said this orb was Kashival's highest accomplishment, with the correct rituals it could even grant a mortal Godhood. But with Kashival's demise so too came the disappearance of the orb. It was considered lost, at least until Kelemvor discovered the sword..." at this Vasili's face falters, as if the mere thought of this sword pains him "...The sword in question is really unremarkable, at least to the untrained eye, in the hands of a Paragon of good it can accomplish many good things, in the hands of a Paragon of evil it can accomplish disaster, one of the abilities of the sword is to direct the wielder towards items of great destiny, and no item holds a greater destiny than the Orb, however theres a few limitations, Kashival was a real tricksters as well, the sword can only be used by mortals AND the sword will only reveal its power when a wielder finds it, it cannot be handed down."
A moment of pause follows this lengthy tale "The quest is simple, it seems the Sword has found itself into this plane, the sword forbids entities from this plane to lay claim to it, and thats where you come in, you are to find the sword and bring it back, you will be immune to the normal effects of this plane, your body is being slowly infused with the magic of the blue glow, do this and you are free to go, but be weary, the other deities i mentioned will be on the hunt as well and while my master can stop mere mortals from entering his realm he cant stop them if they are assisted by the gods"
With that Vasili ends his tale, and gives each of you an appraising look, waiting to see your response.

In the to her still difficult language of humans Kilya finally speaks, or more hisses, after having heard all the others speak "Why should I trust you, or your god? I have seen much betray me, only Shar I trust." She still stood there, having moved no step forward, her eyes on this lord, who she distrusted, perhaps even more than the others here. The shadows within her called to her to slay these unknown people, but she was wise and powerful enough to know that this was not the way, for now at least, and so she would wait and seek out answers. After that, maybe, she could please Shar, and the shadows within...
"Ah yes Kilya, my Lord said you might be trouble, well in your case the answer is simple, you see Shar cannot take active part in this realm because the Raven Queen controls its surrounding areas, and my lord will do its most to stop you from attempting to leave, the Mists can be quite deadly if commanded, how do you think having your lungs turned to stone from the inside feel like?, no Kilya the sword would not be in your best interest, however theres a thousand items of Kashival that could please Shar, do this task for my lord and he shall give you the guidance to find these artifacs and so please your Dark Goddess" Vasili says with a calm exterior, his eyes flash with the readiness of one who isnt afraid of the odds, even the ones gathered here.
Translation: This guy is Epic level Solo so dont even try it :D. As a side note i completely missed the part that Kilya worships Shar, YAY for unintended plot hooks! im just that awesome

"Of treasures speak you that might give me power to revenge upon kin, and please the mistress of shadow, but you answer not my question... Once I have been lied to by a goddess, and she send to slay me, how can I know it is not the same you wish? Can you make promise?" Kilya asks, not readily trusting anything of this yet, she only cared about her own safety at the moment, and no matter how alluring they sounded, not about the promised treasures.
I wasn't really attempting to threaten him at all, she just doesn't trust him.
"Can I make such a promise? Yes. Can you trust me? Well you can trust me as much as you can trust Shar, or to put it in a better perspective, as much as the others could trust Shar had she been the one dealing with you all for the same goal" Vasili smiles as Kilya suddenly notes that he is speaking perfect Drow, thought heavily accented and sounding just as archaic, the others however notice no change, for them he has continued to speak in common.
"You can trust that my Lord wouldnt have called upon you if he wasnt sure that you would follow, if not out of acceptance to this request and the promises of riches to appease Shar then out of the understanding that right now doing this job is the only way to leave his Realm"
Nobody wants to venture a guess at where you are? or whats going on?
Oh those of you with Passive Perception above 15 noticed that during the talk with Kilya, Vasili's words and mouth where not entirely in synch, you suspect theres something odd going on.
Those of you who made the Passive Perception check and with Passive Insight of at least 13 are considering the possibility of Magic being involved, however what kind you cant be sure unless you also make an Arcana check
Those of you who didnt make the Passive Perception Check got distracted looking at shinies and missed the event

Well, since Kilya is paying full attention to him, she should be able to notice, shouldn't she? Her passive perception is 17.
Assuming the answer yes, she will attempt to read magic again, to see what is causing this:
Arcana (Read Magic):
Dice Roller1 D20 rolled with a +15 modifier
5 + 15
"I understand, but know that if you would ever try to betray me, Shar's wrath would be upon you, because mine would be. You know that she delights in taking vengeance and helping mortals to accomplish such. Whatever you and your lord send at me, I shall slay it, and the lady of shadows shall be most pleased." Kilya says, this time answering in her own people's tongue "I shall join these others, but know that I shall always keep my eyes open!" She had now silenced, but still stared at Vasili, and although it doesn't seem to have any intention behind it, she is in fact trying to detect any magic within him and behind his words, still not trusting the situation.
Vasili smiles at Kilya's speech "Of course, we wouldnt have it any other way, and keeping your eyes open is the smart way to survive", that settled Vasili looks at the others to see if theres any further complaints forthcoming.
Well you can tell Vasili's language trick appears to be a form of Tongues spell, one you havent encountered before, it appears he is able to turn it on and off at will.
As for your Read Magic Check, there actually no magic to read you can sense magical auras however, but you cant distinguish them.
In fact Vasili seems to be permated in magical auras, so much so that your head throbs

Still weary but more relaxed than first, Kilya sits down, and asks, still in the drow tongue, more interested now "Tell me, where and how I can find these items that will please my goddess? Or is that not for you to answer or give clue about?"
"Well like i said the sword can grant its bearer directions towards destiny, if my master appropiates the destiny of the Orb then the sword can be coaxed to direct you to the items in question, effectively making them your destiny" He smiles wider "Its that simple"

With the last of Lord Vasili's words Ravelm couldn't help but laugh out loud. He sneered and looked Lord Vasili in the face. "Finding such items, simple? Something so powerful that it's possession would please Shar? Lying under a rock? Tossed aside in a moor? No. You send us on a quest that will be anything but simple." He stood up as he spoke, to excited to eat. In his excitement he automatically switched to Draconic, "Songs will be sung of the conquests we shall share! Whither we help you in your task. Or strike you down for betraying us. This will make us all immortal within the history passed from warrior to warrior! We. Shall. Prevail!"
For some reason im picturing Leonidas but in dragon form
Vasili lets the outburst subside "Oh i never said acquiring them would be easy, not even finding them, learning their location however is simple, just the sword is needed, it will tell you where you are to go, it will not tell you where to look" his smile returns, almost as if theres a meaning to his words they arent understanding.
