Welcome! to the 8th thread of this humble clan: The Alliance of Rogue Deckers Come on in, we'll give you shelter from the storm....
So, it is a little bit belated, however we finally have a new thread. Still looking for new members.
So: Do you hate net-decks? Do you want a Revolution? Well we all want to change the world... here at ARD, we strongly disagree with the current state of magic, where everyone copies the tier 1 deck. This seriously stifles any creativity in deck making today. So if you value creativity you should definitely join this clan.
To Join: Just post a decklist that isn't a net-deck.
To Become A Friend:
Just ask; no decklist required, but it would be nice.

Haha, I havent been here in a while, sorry. I've been lazy and busy, a deadly combination. I don't play standard or block anymore, mainly legacy, but I've been thinking about the extended rotation. TNN, Tron, and Affinity are probably going to be top tier, with maybe a Counterbalance/Top deck to join them. Thus said, I propose a meta foil deck.
I haven't thought of a solid SB yet, but I have osmething rough. Ghost Quarter-Strip mine vs. Affinity, keeps tron off the table, and can slighly color scew the 5c gifts decks that will probably appear. Burning-Tree Shaman-First, 3 mana for a 3/4 is good, and with BOP/Mox it will be hitting play turn 2 often. It punishes Fetchlands, Diving Top, STE, Ravager, I'm actually surprised it didnt see play last season. Call of the Herd-2 3/3's, card advantage in aggro, overall very solid. It's not spectacular though. Rumbling Slum-Well, 5/5 for 4 is nothing to scoff at, it will most of the time outclass goyf. It's also going to get around Counterbalance, and is a clock whether it's chumped or not.
Clearly the manabase needs work, I'll get around to it when I get a little more free time. If anyone has any seggustions, I'd be happy to hear them.
Considering how many years I've been complaining about NetDecks, this group sounds like kindred spirits.
With that in mind, allow me to present the current incarnation of my Friday Night staple, which has garnered me plenty of 2nds and 3rds (with the occasional 1st):
The theme behind the deck is loss of life (which can't be prevented) and shrinkage, such as from Wither and Sudden Death. Originally, I was trying to put together an Extended deck, but I couldn't find/afford a set of Kokusho. There were enough current cards for me to build it (it used to feature a cadre of Blightspeakers), so I decided to give it a go. And it usually works, which was a nice bonus.
Changes have been made post-Eventide, with a greater focus on Wither, and the advantages it can lend via Necroskitter, Kulrath Knight, and Crumbling Ashes. The Memory Plunder in the sideboard is for all those [insert profanity of choice] Faerie decks and Cryptic Command - now I just borrow the one already in the graveyard. The filter lands are in there until I finish a set of Fetid Heaths to make Batwing Brume more fun for my opponent.
On nights that I'm feeling particularly froggy (or happen to be know I'll likely be facing Faerie decks every round), I like to reach for this deck.
This started out as a $5 deck I built after Planar Chaos. I had decided to start playing FNM again, and through wins and trades it got beefier. Except for the Legacy Weapon, it's a Time Spiral Block deck, and I've swapped in a third Might Sliver if the occasion calls for it.
The Sliver deck will soon be cannibalized for two decks soon - 1 Extended, 1 Sliver Overlord EDH. Speaking of Highlander...
My Blue Highlander has a few Unhinged cards, so I only use it once in a while (R&D's Secret Lair makes all modern basic lands worthless - they don't have a Tap symbol) since it tends to infinite... in multiple directions.
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.
New thread!
Also: I JUST WROTE MY RESEARCH PAPER IN 30 MINUTES AND AM HIGH ON SUGAR. ... Wooooooooooo. ... Man.
Uh, anyways, I have this Retrace deck as a Eventide candidate:
Some other stuff, but for now I think that's all I got.

Does call of the herd work for you in this? And... no Tarmogoyf??? Or is it rogue to not use Tarmo???
You're probably right Phyrexian, tarmo would be good in place of Call, but I don't have any, I traded mine off at 20 a piece when I thought they wouldn't go any higher :(. And now I refuse to buy more, because I could have gotten them cheaper. I like Call as a replacement though, because it's card advantage, it improves the control matchup, and it sneaks passed CB/Top easier.

I have two.
I suggest waiting til it rotates out of t2 and then get them...

Eventide: Did you want to join? It didn't say anything...
Although I'd gladly accept an invitation to join, I find it kind of tacky and crass to ask oneself. My momma told me, "If you have to ask your 'friends' if you can join in, they probably didn't want you along in the first place." I didn't get invited to... well, any parties in high school, but I was the go-to guy for help. Go figure.
I think it's cheap not to use Tarmo.
I think Eventide wants to join, and after his/her tagline I think we should let him/her.
Well, unless you yanked them out of a pack, it's definitely cheaper on your wallet not to play with 'Goyf (saw a set of Japanese foils go for $710 about two weeks ago - ridiculous). As far as it being Rogue not to run them, I'd say "Yes" to that as well. When people splash the ability to generate green mana to play it in decks that have no other reason for green (and it shows up in a number of NDs), I'd say it's a little Rogue to have Green and not slot it in.
But that's just my 1/50th of a dollar.

May your games be chaotic and your decks be Rogue.
I asked and they took me in, I didn't mind because of that same kindred rogueness. You decks are defintely up our alley, so come on in. (I don't get invited to that many parties either, yet am also the go-to guy. So, you're okay in my book.)
Sorry about the gender ambiguity, better to be safe than sorry.
@Phyrexian: I think I am. My friend who hasn't played magic in a year roped me into it.
And I keep saying I quit. Heh. We'll see, maybe I'll sell my wraths there or something stupid.
My friend still has my deck. I wonder what I have to do to get it from him. ...

Not going to the prerelease, but I may go to a release event at a nearby store. I've been out of playing Magic since RAV block (so right before TSP hit), and all the tribal and hybridness of LOR/SHA just might be enough to get me back into it. I may wait a few more months for Shards to hit and force TSP out of Standard. I don't know.
Phyrexian: Thanks. Hope I can be of service when Clan Events roll around. And I'll try to unearth a few deck ideas based on new and old cards (I used to love running Rogue in Legacy - Vintage is a bit more difficult). Hmmm... I'll have to see if I still have the list for my Richard Kane Ferguson deck.
As far as the Prerelease, the nearest one is about a 90 minute drive for me, and few players I know are going. The ones that are going already have their carpools set, and I'm not exactly a petite individual, so I can't exactly squeeze between two people. I did ride in the trunk once (a hatchback, thankfully); not an experience I'd like to repeat any time soon.
I will be going to the Release at at least one local shop, possibly two. I like Figure of Destiny; it'll be a nice addition to my Kithkin deck, and hopefully I'll be able to get extra copies off of other players. Just remains to be seen whether I prefer the Release or Regular art more (Door of Destinies Prerelease artwork is a good example - I'd much rather have a set of those).
EDIT: Talk about how "Invert the Skies = Win" is making me consider a T2 rG Spider deck. I have 9 creatures to work with (the easy part), plus Swarmyard for Regen shenanigans. Any suggestions on support spells (besides Squall Line)?
List of the Best commons in eventide:
Banishing knack
the one mana demigod auras
Shorecrasher mimic
Slippery Boggle (especially with Favor of the overbeing)
Desecrater Hag
Inside out (I'm not quite sure though, but a cantrip that costs 2 is almost always good)
UNMAKE (BOOYAH!)
nightsky mimic
Beckon Apparition
These cards are not in order. And from what i've seen, Moonhold could be the best uncommon.
I've been posting here for a while now, and I just now find the clan. Whoops! Anywho, I'm definately interested in joining and such, as I -love- my awkward decks! My current rogue-ish build is one of the strangest, but possibly effective pieces of type II deckbuilding you'll see until the next Project X variation.
Sooo, that's the list, and I've left out two possible inclusions from Eventide in Scarecrowne and Ward of Bones. I'm not sure what either's place in the current stage of the decklist would be, so I just left them out until further notice.
Anywho, I build decks more than I play them, and I don't really have the budget to throw together paper versions of each deck that I throw onto WordPad, but I think that this one has a decent amount of potential in the shifting standard environment. Links to the deck's critique thread are below, and of course, any feedback is appreciated.
With that out of the way, a couple of my favorite decks so far have been mono black control (with Leyline of the Void and Measure of Wickedness maindecked. Fun fun fun stuff. I believe that same deck carried over a leveller + endless whispers alt-win, but I'm not sure. May have just been a similar one.
Another oddball ext deck that I put together utilized the ridiculously janky Words of Wind, which I featured next to Vedalken Archmage and an affinity build to lock down the board as soon as turn 5. It was more casual than anything, but it was hilarious watching my opponent's face as I dropped a second Archmage, returned all of their permanents to their hand, and drew my entire deck, before dropping a Broodstar with Lightning Greaves.
EDIT: Oh, and for the love of god, could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong with my deck tags? Every time I try to throw on card tags, they either fail to show up, or mess up the format of the deck entirely. I just use [deck.] and [/deck.] (without the periods of course) then card tags around each card, and it still doesn't work.

With that in mind, allow me to present the current incarnation of my Friday Night staple, which has garnered me plenty of 2nds and 3rds (with the occasional 1st):

Changes have been made post-Eventide, with a greater focus on Wither, and the advantages it can lend via Necroskitter, Kulrath Knight, and Crumbling Ashes. The Memory Plunder in the sideboard is for all those [insert profanity of choice] Faerie decks and Cryptic Command - now I just borrow the one already in the graveyard. The filter lands are in there until I finish a set of Fetid Heaths to make Batwing Brume more fun for my opponent.

Until next time, may your games be chaotic and your decks be rogue.

I guess I should add these decklists?
Eventide: Did you want to join? It didn't say anything...
Hey marit, welcome back?
Does call of the herd work for you in this? And... no Tarmogoyf??? Or is it rogue to not use Tarmo???
I think Eventide wants to join, and after his/her tagline I think we should let him/her.
So, I think I'm going to be building a WB after Eventide regardless of budget. Stillmoon Knight and Evershrike scream build a deck for me.

I have two.
I suggest waiting til it rotates out of t2 and then get them...
Go figure.
Sorry about the gender ambiguity, better to be safe than sorry.

Anyone going to the prerelease for... eventide?
And I keep saying I quit. Heh. We'll see, maybe I'll sell my wraths there or something stupid.
My friend still has my deck. I wonder what I have to do to get it from him. ...

I missed out on a potentially awesome deck in UG accel-control with Meloku, near the end of Kamigawa's rotation out of standard. It was working out quite well, with Azusa, Lost but Seeking, Meloku the Clouded Mirror and Time of Need to dig for whichever I was missing by turn 5. Utilizing a ridiculous amount of mana accel with Summer Bloom, Budoka Gardener, Sakura-Tribe Scout, and Sakura-Tribe Elder, aswell as an alt-win in Vinelasher Kudzu the deck ran quite well in testing. I didn't even think of Intruder Alarm for a built in infinite token/infinitely large Kudzu until a while after rotation.
That'll be your problem. You're supposed to use card tags after the deck.
I'll post my critiques later in your thread, but it's cool deck.

The two deck tags would make it fine, you don't need the extra card tags.
