Magic 2015 Core Set Prerelease Events begin Wednesday, July 25 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time and continue through July 28.
Once Magic Online returns from downtime on Wednesday, July 23, players will have 35 Phantom Points and one each of the five "Hunt" entry objects added to their accounts if they've been active on Magic Online between 2008, and the downtime on July 23. Due to the giveaway, Entry Objects for M15 Prerelease and Release Events will not be refundable.
Players will be able to use their Phantom Points and entry objects to enter the new Prerelease Sealed Events. Join the Friendly Sealed Event if you're looking to experiment with the new set, have fun, and have a better chance at walking away with a booster or two. If it's fierce competition and a steeper prize payout you're after, the Competitive Sealed Event will be more your speed. To be clear, unlike other events that use Phantom Points as an entry option, players will be able to keep their cards from these Prerelease Events after they end!
The 35 phantom points will get you into one prerelease event or they may be used instead for other phantom events. For example, there are other phantom sealed events (such as THS block) costing 10 phantom points to join and then you win phantom points based upon how many match wins you had.
So does this mean that if I use the 35 points and one of their 'hunt' chips, the remaining 4 will still be in my inventory and I'll only need to purchase the tickets to use them in a different event?
I wonder if there's anything in the TOS that would prevent me from signing up for a few extra accounts and sending my "main" the cards from the free prerelease. With the 5 tickets you also get that's a whole mess of cards for essentially 5 bucks. Really pretty sweet value.
The Phantom Sealed events are not refundable, by the way. So if the servers crash under the weight of people trying to enjoy a free tournament...tough luck, there goes your freebie. I really wish they'd show some faith in this product.

The pre-release *objects* are non-refundable.
Previously if you had bought the $5 item to play in a pre-release and you never got a chance to use it for some reason, you could put a request in and they would refund the purchase. This time seeing they are giving everyone one of each they cannot be refunded.

Many people have many accounts. I don't see how this would be breaking the ToS.
When they announced this promo, they even asked people not to join the same tournament with multiple accounts at the same time in order to let everyone play.

I believe playing with multiple accounts in the same event is not what he was asking about. I'm not sure whether or not that specifically is against the ToS (I would guess that it is), but certainly it would be frowned upon if nothing else.

I could be totally wrong as I have never played with convoke on V4, but coming from V3 this was a change.
In the closed beta now, when you cast a spell with convoke, the cost window will say (in the cast of Siege Wurm) "Pay 5GG with Convoke" and your untapped creatures will be highlighted, when you click on a creature or tap a land, it will reduce the cost by the appropriate amount. From memory (on V3 at least) you used to announce spell, choose what creatures to tap, then pay the rest of the mana, as of M15 release, you tap creatures and pay mana at the same time. So you can in theory tap a creature, pay a couple of mana from land, then tap another creature for convoke.
I just thought I would mention it as it threw me to begin with as I read "Pay X with convoke" with only a cancel button on the window as it wanting me to pay the entire cost by tapping creatures.
Off topic: Why do people maintain multiple accounts?
I originally had a second account because there was a time when making top 8 of a 2x release event qualified you for the 2x champs and actually locked you out of playing in any more 2x events. This was back in BOK release anyway, obviously release events have long since changed.
Hell, this was back when every single scheduled event had a cut to top 8, lol.

Do I read that right? Free tournaments and cards?
I am sure most people who are mad about would rather keep V3 and not have a free prerelease, instead of the other way around.
I wouldn't be so opposed to V4 if I could actually play on it for more than 30 minutes without feeling like my head is going to explode.
I don't want to get banned though.

I'd double check to make sure that is still correct before investing in accounts with that planned.

Well, you'd still keep your cards at least.
