You might randomly play against a WotC member in this special queue.
It's on Friday April the 12th at 12pm pacific time.
It's a Standard Swiss event with 5 rounds. 10 tickets to enter. You get prizes for getting 3 wins or more. Pays out in RTR packs (probably to not tank GTC prices).
The prize payout is really good, and I would expect the average skill level of players in it to be much lower than a Daily Event. These seem like a very good thing to enter.

Standard: Zombies, AntiTusk Vampires, BUG Graveyard, Bant Hexproof, UR Storm Delver Modern: Storm, Jund, Ghast Blaster, Elf Warriors Legacy: RUG Cascade, Imperial Painter, Affinity, Dredge, Elves, Merfolk, Pox, Dragon Stompie, Goblins, ANT, Belcher Classic: Delver, Dredge, Jacerater Draft: I will draft basically any format online (other than Masques) Pauper: MTGO's #1 most handsome Pauper Storm player
The prize payout relative to the entry fee is basically the same as a DE (although that doesn't count the fact that you might get extra prize if some is won by members of R&D).
It's pretty sweet except that it's constructed. Oh well... we just got a pretty sweet Limited event too, so I guess I can't complain.
This looks really sweet. Wizards has been doing a good job of adding some interesting and creature events on MODO. I hope they continue to do this and that it helps increase the support for MODO.
Hey, has anyone ever played one of these? Is it fun? Do you actually get to face more than one R&D guy? Because it is R&D I want to play some of my more unique decks, but being that it is STD, I got the feeling other players are going to bring their mondo competitive and/or netdecks. Is this true? I was thinking R&D would get a kick of seeing something different. Overall did you find the experience worth it?
There's a cap of 256 players, which will probably be met. There's 5 rounds and at least 10 R&D members participating. So as a rough estimate, you have a 10/255 chance of playing one in each round.
That works out to an approximately 20% chance of playing one or more sometime during the event.
Because it was R&D focused, I thought the goal was to show off some of your more unique/quirky/creative decks to R&D without having to be worried about uber-competitive decks. I mean, those guys can just join a regular event, right?

It says "bring your best Standard deck".
It's just a chance to play against R&D members. You're reading too much into it.
They increased the cap on the number of players to 512.
I was wondering too what type of decks i'd face, it seems like a not so serious event so maybe people would just bring whatever decks they wanted? I wonder if it's going to be more aggro oriented since those decks are cheaper. So maybe I should have terminus in my 75 to hedge.
There are no QPs in this event so i'm not sure how interested grinders would be in this event, though the pay out is nice since RTR packs are worth 50 cents more than GTC packs.
Also it's at 12pm pacific/3pm eastern on a Friday, so i'm not sure what demographic(s) that favors.

Kids with the day off of school. I'll be at work. I don't really care though I've got a 10-1 win record against WoTc staffers.
I much prefer playing them in the casual room where I can run my homebrews without fear of wasting tickets in an event. The last time I played a WoTc staffer was right after GTC released, he was playing a relatively competive Bant deck and I was running a homebrewed MBC deck that turned out to very effective against his. Some good back and forth "trash talking" was enjoyed and it was a good experience. I do not see that sort of fun being had in a 500+ player event. I see my budget home brews going up against Tier 1 over and over and over, and I don't really keep up with the meta since I quit playing in the fee based tournaments.
I just finished this event. I thought it was going to max out because of the high EV with the pay out being RTR packs over GTC packs. Nope, only 159 people joined it. I guess I expected it to max out like the fools sealed, but in limited you don't have to have a deck.
Some of the WotC members were streaming their matches on twitch. I did not watch any of them though.
I played all 5 rounds, went 3-2. I did not play against an R&D member. I was playing esper by Andrew Cuneo.
I played against: esper (0-1), a UWR flash deck (1-1), 2 domri naya aggro decks (2-2), and a fog door deck (3-2).
All 5 decks were non-budget decks, though I question the competitive nature of fog door.
So if you have 4.5 hours this is a fine event. Going 3-2 gives you a profit of 8 tickets and 5 rounds of magic.

5 hours for 8 tix? No wonder why it didn't max out.

Are these kids more casual players or hardcore?

If you 4-1'd it you got 23 tickets.
