Timmy - Timmy wants to experience something. Timmy plays Magic because he enjoys the feeling he gets when he plays. What that feeling is will vary from Timmy to Timmy, but what all Timmies have in common is that they enjoy the visceral experience of playing.
Johnny - Johnny is the creative gamer to whom Magic is a form of self-expression. Johnny likes to win, but he wants to win with style. It’s very important to Johnny that he win on his own terms. As such, it's important to Johnny that he's using his own deck. Playing Magic is an opportunity for Johnny to show off his creativity.
Spike - Spike is the competitive player. Spike plays to win. Spike enjoys winning. To accomplish this, Spike will play whatever the best deck is. Spike will copy decks off the Internet. Spike will borrow other players' decks. To Spike, the thrill of Magic is the adrenalin rush of competition. Spike enjoys the stimulation of outplaying the opponent and the glory of victory.
Timmy/Johnny, mostly the former. I love using weird cards to win, a la Johnny, but on the whole I love using big splashy effects to create the most dynamic game possible. In essence, I'd rather go all out and lose than hold back and win (except in tournament settings, naturally, but I'm talking my prefered table-top setting).

Complaining about card prices accomplishes nothing. Read some Medina articles, learn to trade better, don’t act like the only way to do ANYTHING in this game is to price out decks and buy every single you ever need.
I've recently become more of a spike and less of a Johnny and the same small amount of Vorthos. That said, I always have to watch our for "the danger of cool things" when trying to play or make a deck, since I have some of that Johnny/Vorthos still there.

I currently play only two formats, what I play in them is:
Legacy: Domain Zoo, RGW Zoo, Merfolk, Solidarity, Mono Black Aggro
EDH: Kagemaro, First to Suffer
I think I created the term SPIKE......just kidding.......no I'm not. I play the game as if it were chess and with each move I take I'm always learning something.

and I'm a Spike until the day I die!
I'm Johnny, I'm a combo player at heart. I like finding a card, whether it be useless or completely ridiculous and try to construct a deck out of that. At the moment, I am trying to construct a deck with The Cheese Stands Alone or the equivalent that isnt an unhinged card (for the life of me i cant remember what it is called), Time Sieve to try and annoy my opponent with my awesome time walking skills, a Scute Mob deck where he doesnt die the second I play him, and probably a Warp World deck.

Thanks Zaph and High~Light Studios for the awesome sig pic!
I am definitely a Timmy. I just love playing the game. I love experiencing pretty much everything about it, but my favourite experience is the first three turns. Not having to mull and dropping a Turn 3 Turntimber Ranger via T1: Forest, Birds, T2: Forest, Druid, T3 Ranger or anything to that effect just makes me happy. I'm also kind of a Johnny because I like winning (mostly in Constructed) with widely acknowledged useless in Standard decks. At the moment, my pet project is an Ally deck.
Question: WTF is a Vorthos?
