I had to make a thread to vent my frustration with this new thing that Wizards is trying out of holding back the best spoilers until the end, or at least until later than usual.
We're used to getting some of the best cards revealed within the first three days of spoilers -- which typically meant the set's planeswalkers. The prime example of this new policy with Eldritch Moon is the story completely dedicated to Liliana, at the end of which we'd normally expect to find her card spoiled, is instead concluded with just her planeswalker art. Not her card. Just her art, and some substandard jank rare.
Personally, I believe in first impressions. You don't go on a first date and save the best parts of yourself to reveal at a later time. You showcase those parts first.
My impression of Eldritch Moon is now very low because of these mediocre spoils. Yes, there may be amazing cards yet to be revealed in the set, but my level of disappointment is such that I'm not going to be near as excited for the set as I would have if the good cards were spoiled at the start. They gave us Emrakul a week before official spoilers, which many are debating about its playability, and they gave us Brisela, which most are concluding that she'll rarely get flipped, with Gisela most likely being played in decks without Bruna.
If this was an experiment, it failed. My hype level is the lowest it's been for just about any set in recent memory. It may recover some with the reveal of the set's better cards, but the damage is already done.
You know just about every spoiler season there are threads complaining how Wizards spoiled all the good cards first, and how there was nothing left in the final weeks of spoiler season. So now they're trying to rectify that.
Wizards literally doesn't need to even release spoilers. They owe us nothing. Your complaining is unjustified and you look like a snotty child.
"I had to....vent my frustration..."
"...the damage is already done".
PUH-LEASE.
Also, there have been AMAZING spoils thus far for many formats including constructed, cube, EDH...what else do you want? Good god.
Emrakul, the Promised End
Gisela, the Broken Blade
Thalia, Heretic Cathar
Unsubstantiate
Hanweir Garrison
Kessig Prowler
Emrakul is insane and is going to see lots of play in many formats. Gisela is BSA Jr. Thalia is going to see lots of eternal format play. Unsubstantiate is Remand 2.0. Hanweir Garrison is already being compared to Goblin Rabblemaster which is a bonkers card that wins games by itself even in eternal formats. Kessig Prowler is literally unprecedented in power level in green--a 2/1 for G w/ no drawback and upside?
And you're COMPLAINING?! LOL Get out of town.
Oh oh oh I had to come back to say this, too: This set is breaking boundaries in the Magic world in the sense that it is bridging two blocks and two planes in a way we have never seen before. The flavor is so savory it makes my stomach hurt from over-indulgence. And don't get me started on the mechanics! Emerge is such a flavorful and useful mechanic. Escalate is incredible value. And we LITERALLY got a BIG FURRY MONSTER mechanic. Come on, dude...damn.
Wizards literally doesn't need to even release spoilers. They owe us nothing. Your complaining is unjustified and you look like a snotty child.
Nah, spoiler seasons are good for Wizards, not just us. They basically "owe" themselves the marketing value of spoilers to get people excited to spend their money.
Either way, I'm not exactly sure why you're so passionate about this topic that you feel the need to bash the OP so hard. Gross overreaction.
Personally, this spoiler season does feel slow, I am a bit turned off by it, but I'm not as upset as OP about the situation.
Either way, I'm not exactly sure why you're so passionate about this topic that you feel the need to bash the OP so hard. Gross overreaction.
I have a sincere distate for whiners that think they're owed things just for being alive. I'm picturing trigglypuff flapping her arms while saying "not enough shhhhpoilerrrssshhhhh!! wahhhh!!!"
I'm a little surprised we haven't gotten one of those uncommon cycles that they usually have. Sure they are never all that good, but they do one about this time.

That's not what the OP said at all. Summary of OP: "Wizards, you changed stuff and I don't like it. FYI it's making this whole marketing thing less exciting for me."
But even if OP had taken the "I deserve this" tact that you don't like, this is still a game. It could disappear tomorrow and the world would move forward as though it never existed.
No need to get so dramatic about it.
Why bother with too much spoilers? Moon is just the third set of Battle for Zendikar, they decided after all they would still release it even if they'd change the game to the 2-set-per-block paradigm.
Only a few artistic changes were required, like replacing Kor by Humans, Cats by Boars, Scions by Horrors, encampments by walled cities, and such.
Not sure the pace picked up or not. It feels like mothership is releasing less spoilers, but over the course of the day we're seeing more previews from different places. Might be just my impression though.
I agree that showing mediocre spoilers at the start or questionable to good cards is killing my hype for the set. The solution I see to that: stop powering down everything and print some goddamninyourfacecrazygood cards. Every set needs some of these, and to be honest, despite having cards that I like in EMN I didn't see one that was an obviously 'yeah, that is sick'. I miss that feeling.

I get the frustration but try having a bit of patience. They always blow all of the good spoilers on the first few days and then have nothing but garbage left by the end of spoilers. Perhaps this time they are saving some good stuff for the end like they used to?
Or maybe the set is just pure trash and they already blew all of the good stuff.
I'd personally rather have the more interesting things up front, if just because I'd rather know whether or not the things I'm hoping to see (in this case a new Tamiyo, likely other stuff though) are there. But different pros and cons for people, for me at least it's just harder for me to want to tune in every day right now.
I'd rather no spoilers at all. I'd rather crack a box and enjoy the surprises then go on Gatherer to see what I missed. I do this almost every set but occasionally cave (like this time).
I think it is great. The best cards are going to be talked to death for the next year, give us a few days to really take in the flavor and enjoy the mechanics. Not to mention we have seen plenty of good cards.

Can't whip it out during dinner!

I'd prefer that they compact the spoilers into a single week. This drags on unpleasantly.
Though, that said, my current feelings might be skewed by the "extra" week caused by the pre-preview of Emrakul. That early showing has created an environment similar to the tedium of waiting for OGW after we saw Kozilek leaked early.
Unfortunately, this time, all we had to discuss in that week was a few legendary creatures, rather than a completely unexplained mechanic to puzzle over. If they want to start spoilers that far in advance, I'd rather they start us off with cards that are missing reminder text so that we have something worth solving.
While I haven't been all that excited about the Eldrazi (getting a bit bored after the last block), there seems to be a strategy of unveiling them in the first week, and then what will be fighting them in the second week. Read this from Friday's daily update. I'd guess Liliana will be revealed on Monday, and then more cards without tentacles to follow...
"Things have been pretty dark this week as we've explored Emrakul's madness spreading across Innistrad. But today, for the first time, do we see a bit of—hope?... Could this mean a turning of the tides? I'd check back for next week's previews to see the answer."

Yeah I was going to say that it seems like they are spoiling these strategically. It seems like it was done in such a way as to reinforce or tell the story. I think that's a cool idea and it helps reveal the story since we only have 2 blocks, it can kind of get difficult to understand what the exact sequence of events is within the course of a block.

You do realize WotC is spoiling cards because it is a form of advertising, right? An effective on at that, since cards get shared on lots of sites and passed around facebook and twitter. WotC trickles the spoilers out so that their cards are talked about each day leading up to the release.

That, of course, would be far worse than just saving the best for last.
Can't please everyone.
