I haven't been this excited about a card in a very long time. The card has so much potential in so many formats. In Modern, I would love to double Gitaxian Probe, and then Quicken into a Day's Undoing at the end of opponent's turn, and then swing in with a hand full of goodies for protection on my next turn.
Narset seems like a nice fit for this deck in Standard, as does Aberrant Researcher (doesn't get bounced like almost everything else when Thing in the Ice flips).
I've started brewing like crazy ever since I saw this card.

Natset will be rotating when this card comes out...
I'm pretty sure the dream with it in modern is just t1 tarn/vents bolt to the face, t2 red land Thing in the Ice, t3 red land probe for 2 life, bolt, bolt, bolt, flip, attack, gg (assuming they fetched, if not they'd still be at 1, lol).

That's quite the "dream". This fits in a R/U prowess shell, to be honest. It's bolt proof and has a big but for blocking. With Swiftspears and Abbotts, this is just sheer value. Running as many "free" spells as you can, with protection in terms of counters and Apostles Blessing makes this a potential house. How does this work with ferocious? As long as the spell removes the last counter, will it trigger ferocious after it flips, a la Stubborn Denial, Craters Claws.

This seems way too cute. A more direct, streamlined approach would probably best as Buffsam89 mentioned. An U/R prowess shell would be my starting point as well.
If you really want to go with Day's Undoing... Brain in a Jar can cast it at an opponent's turn. But I honestly don't think this will be potent enough.
What I love about the Day's Undoing is that it shuffles all of your opponent's creatures into his or her library when Thing flips. Probably better for Standard than Modern, but I would love to see the effect go off just once.
Also, would this thing fit right into Shardless BUG or what?
It must be true Wizards doesn't think about other formats when making cards (like Eldrazi in Modern didn't already prove this) because this thing will be crazy good in Legacy.
Cast on T2 with Daze back up. Daze opponent's next spell.
T3 - Brainstorm, Ponder, Probe, attack wouldn't be too terribly difficult to pull off but won't happen all the time.
This thing will easily be flipping on T4 at the latest and puts Goyf to shame. Also has potential for Snapcaster shenanigans and being out of bolt range on the unflipped side is a huge plus. Buy your playset ASAP.
This thing is sweet. I'm not sure it will be playable in standard while CoCo and Reflector mage are legal though. Thing in the ice is only good if you can reliably keep it on the field for a couple turns, at least. Reflector mage hates this care out hard. Of course, I'm assuming Bant coco will retain the mana and threats it needs through rotation.

Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.

As of right now, there is not enough instant support, as this is where it will shine. brain in a jar has potential with this in standard.
This will be left up to discussion, but, if this finds a home in modern (and I think it will, as it passes the majority of tests-Boltproof, combat shenanigans, finisher on its own.) you can probably forget about Ancestral Visons coming off the banned list, as you can probably flip up to 2 of these when the suspend effect ends, making this an absolute BEAST.
Also, don't expect 4-color rally to be even a blip on the radar after fetchlands rotate.
I was actually talking about Bant company, not 4-color rally. Bant company is a three color deck, that only loses fetchlands and a singleton Warden to rotation. It is comfortable running excess lands. It also runs relatively few fetchlands. It plays the full 4 reflector mage and full 4 collected company. Rally is over, CoCo is the new big bad.
Counterspells suck right now, and probably won't be getting better.

Dispel is a thing, as is Negate. I've also had pretty good luck with Clash of Wills, surprisingly (I thought the card was trash until I tried running them, and it effectively acts as a hard 2 mana counter for spells under 4 CMC most of the time, since decks just fall over themselves to cast CoCo as soon as they can). Hallowed Moonlight also works against CoCo pretty well, and draws you a card to boot.
If you're on the draw especially, I don't see any reason why Reflector Mage should be causing trouble for this card in the correct build (heck, if you really want to build around protecting the Thing, you could even run Glint).
And if they manage to get one out after the Thing is already flipped, it doesn't do anything to stop you from re-casting it right away.
Will a rare, like this, really be outrageously priced? I hope I can get one for a reasonable price. Usually even hyped rares end up being two dollars after the set is out for a while. Even most mythics don't get too crazy.

If it was "cast non-creature spell" to remove a counter, it would be better than 'goyf.
